Anyone want to join me for a fat fast

I am 15 days on induction and have not lost anything. So everyone says I should try the fat fast. I think I am going to start on Sunday I have a busy couple of days coming up and I don't think I would be able to eat every couple of hours.

I would love to have some company with this.

did you shed any inches during your 14 days? Dr Atkins says to rule out medical issues first before you move on to the fat fast. did you see your doc to be sure you don't have any medical conditions that would interfer with your weight loss like hypothyroid?

Jent- this is a list I found a while ago at lowcarb.ca, I think:

"1. Make sure you really are stalled. Take your body measurements with a tape. Check how your clothes fit. Try on a piece of clothing that was tight before you started low carbing.

2. Don't go hungry. Eat smaller more frequent meals, and make sure you have some protein with every meal and snack. Avoid going more than 5 hours without eating (except overnight, then make sure you have a protein-containing breakfast).

3. Don't restrict your calorie intake, it will just force your metabolism to slow down to "starvation mode". Increase the amount of protein and fat with your meals. Eat some cheese, fried pork rinds or a handful of nuts as a snack. Use good olive or flax oil on your salads. Use heavy cream and egg yolks to make sauces for fish, eggs and vegetables.

4. Bump up your exercise level. Increase the duration and/or the intensity. Change your routine. Add weight lifts if you are just doing aerobics. And if you're not exercising yet, get moving!

5. Avoid eating carbs before bedtime. This will trigger insulin, which will inhibit fat-burning while you sleep and in fact, will initiate fat STORAGE.

6. Drink more water and other zero-carb fluids to enhance fat hydrolysis, and to flush ketones.

7. Keep a diet diary. Record the time and amount of what you consume. No one else will ever see it, so be brutally honest. Get a good food counts resource, or at least a pocket-size carb gram counter.

8. There are several "Stall Buster" fasts that are popular and successful at jumpstarting the weight and fat-loss. They are meant to be temporary, not long term. Most popular is The Doctor's Quick Weight Loss Diet also known as "Stillman's". This is a high-protein, low-fat, almost-zero-carb program. No cheese or cream, butter fats or oils, no veggies or salads. And buckets and buckets of water. Another popular plateau breaker is Dr. Atkin's Fat Fast , which is just as it sounds. You restrict yourself to 1,000 calories per day, with 90% of those calories in the form of FAT. A third stall buster that some have found helpful is the Meat Fast . Again, it's just as it sounds, meat, meat and more meat, and not a heck of a lot else. A little fat or oil can be used to cook and dress the meat, but nothing else. And no coffee or tea. Water, water, water.

9. Some low carbers have used a thermogenic combination of herbs and medication known as an "ECA Stack". Thermogenic means it boosts metabolism and speeds up fat-burning. The E-C-A components are Ephedra, Caffeine and Aspirin. If you want to know more, click here . There is some controversy over the safety of ephedra, also known as ma huang. It's advisable to check with your doctor. Ephedra should not be used if you are pregnant or nursing, have high blood pressure or history of hear problems. Aspirin should be avoided if you have a known allergy, or if you are taking blood-thinners or have a history of stomach or intestinal ulcers."

Hope this helps a little

Hi lisabini, I have been posting under the starting re-induction 11/5 anyone need a buddy? thread. But any help is appreciated.

I also wanted to say that I know not everybody uses the ketos sticks, but I have been and they are reading in the pink , so I know I am in ketosis.

no my thyroid still has some function so mine is still there, My doc checks me out every 6 months and I checked with him every time I had a stall doing my Atkins. several times it was cause my thyroid levles were off. Did you know low carbing will effect your thyroid as many of the popular induction veggies are goitrogens?. And agin did you get your full thyroid panel checked before you started Atkins to be sure at that time your were in free T3 and T4 range? cause swallowing the pills and having a TSH in range isn't always a good indication of how your body is using those hormones. NOnstickpam has a topic on thyroid stickied in the health section with lots of interesting info in it.

2big4mysize: Yes I just had it checked about a month ago I have to get it checked at least every 6 months or more if I start to feel the signs of it being out of wack, I've been dealing with this for 10 years after a while you know the signs.

WOW I thought being a 10 yr vet your doc would have told you about all the foods that could effect your thyroid hormones. I saw you were having broccoli in your menu in the induction topic so that is one. here are some I know of. I'm sure their is a very very extensive list in that thyroid topic
Cruciferous vegetables including:
Broccoli ,Brussel sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kale,Kohlrabi, Mustard,Rutabaga,Turnips.
Millet,Peaches,Peanuts, almonds,Radishes,Soybean and soy products, including tofu,Spinach, and Strawberries

if you have consistantly eatten them then your med dose was titrated based on the interferance they are causing as is mine. But many new to Atkins folk didn't eat 3 cups of veggies and when they pick spinach and broccoli and cauliflower you can see how those same veggies will impact their thyroid levels.
no they contain chemicals that interfer with either the conversion of T4 to T3 or the production of T4. there are other chems that are being picked up from the enviormnent like floride in tea that can interfer too.
Also if you are getting cals and carbs too low can interfer with that too. There is a study which should be mentioned in that thyroid topic about that with the details of carbs and cals levels

2big4mysize : thanks for the info, I just talked to a friend of mine who also has a thyroid issue, she said her Dr. never said anythig about that either. I will have to call my Dr.

I am sure I'm getting enough calories because between cooking with butter and my portion size it is coming out to about 1700 to 1900 a day. I use the sparkspeople.com to track my meals.

what dosage are you on (you don't have to answer that) but I have been taking 1.25 for years. The only time it went up was when I was pregnant

I take levoxyl 125 mcg. My dose has been adjusted 3 times since I started my Atkins back in 2002 but I was only diagnoised then too.

Mine neither. I have had 3 different doctors (because I moved 3 times) since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Two were family practice and one was an endocrinologist. Two of them had been doctors for over 20 years and NONE of them ever told me not to eat certain veggies altho the endo did tell me to cut back on my carbs.

So what's left to eat? Several of the veggies you listed are the lowest in carbs. I don't want to eat green beans because they are high in carbs and if I can't eat cauliflower I can't make faux potatoes.

However I admit that I am also having problems losing. I lost 16 lbs. during Induction. I went into a stall and then gained back a couple of lbs.

Green beans are only 5 carbs per cup-that's not high in carbs.

think you have confused something else with green beans.

FLuffybear if you have been eating those things as part of your low carbing AND had your thyroid levles checked and adjusted to keep you in normal for you range then you don't need to worry about it. BUT if you were not eating then in the same amounts before then you should ask your doc to retest you since you are consuming larger amounts of then and are having weight loss issues. Dr Atkins talks about thyroids causing weight loss stalls in DANDR. I know during my first stall it was my thyroid reacting to the induction eating and upping my dose fixed my stall. the next one was just a stall then it was thyroid again when I had a 13 week stall.

Also stalls are 4 weeighs of no pounds nor inches lost so it is kind of early for you to be stalled. There is a very normal hesitation in weight loss after our initial loss as our bodies adjust to the changes going on that can last 1-2 weeks. Some folk call this hesitation a stall and even have an acronym for it PISS post induction stall syndrone but it is a false stall and happens on any weight loss plan.

happy low carbing

OK, thanks! I have always eaten those particular vegetables and I have my thyroid checked every six months. I haven't had my Synthroid increased in quite awhile so I guess everything is OK. Oh and thanks so much for the info about stalls. I think that is what happened to me, because I stalled for 2 weeks and even gained 2 lbs. but this morning I weighed and lost the 2 lbs.

good for you. Keep working your Atkins both the correct eating and exercising parts and you will keep shrinking all the way to goal.
