Need reassurance

Hello all. I am bit of a scale psychotic and for this reason, I have taken out the batteries and hidden it in the closet...If it is in the bathroom it calls to me like heroin to an addict!!

Anyway, I started last week...Tuesday. Wednesday I was down 2 pounds and Thursday I was down another 3....sure it was 5 pounds of water weight...but to a scale addict a 5 pound loss is the best high.

So...Friday I was up four pounds!!! Today is Monday and I am still at that 1 pound net loss for the week. No cheats. Not even a stick of sf gum. If I bite it, I write it. My fit day has been consistantly between 1600 and 1800 calories...so a decent caloric deficit over my previous eating habits. My net carb intake has been averageing around 17...but always below 20. All carbs have been from natural whole foods and mostly green vegetables.

I have been successful with Atkins in the past, but stress, divorce and back surgeries have all led to pity parties with my 2 best friends Ben and Jerry.
I am just looking for others who have had extreme resistance in the beginning but stuck it out only to succeed in the long run. I realize this is not a race, or even a diet...I am truly committed to making this a way of life...I just need some reassurance that even though my body seems so resistant to induction, that I will eventually see the scale head in the right direction.

According to my doc a person's weight can vary from day to day by an average of 5 lbs due to water weight especially women. I am in perimenopause and I had my greatest jump from water weight gain ever-8 lbs by nightfall! I am on a prescription diuretic which helps-thank goodness it's down today.

Hi, I also take a water pill triamterene, Do you fine that it slows you're weight loss ? I think that it slows my weight loss, I read some where , that it does slow you down on low carb dieting. Do you have the same problem ?

Nope I only take 12.5 mg of hydrochlorithiazide? (don't have bottle with me) and don't have any problems.

you didn't say from your fitday what your protein and fat %s were. If we eat our protein too high ( atkins induction si 30%) then those proteins can be converted to sugars and that slows body fat burning as fuel.
Also you didn't say what you were doing for the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins. A new to you exercise program can load your muscles with fluids too until your body gets used to the new load as the normal load on those muscles.

Have you checked your tape measure? it will show you the inches of body fat being burned as fuel even when the scales for complicated biochem reasons say you haven't shed any.

Happy low carbing

I'm a scale junkie too and was just complaining on the sarting induction 10/08 thread about my woes of the scale. It may go in the trash if it keeps on messing with my head!
I will weigh myself 10-15 times a day and drive myself crazy.
The first time I did this diet in 2000, I did not own a scale...that worked out so much better. I weighed only when I could get my hands on a scale (or Score me a scale---so to speak!! )
Induction is going the same for me too...but we will win this!
Best to you this week!
Cristen
