Cheese

Why can cheese cause stalling?

I've kept a very rigid food diary, and have noticed that the stall (although I've lost quite a bit in 11 days, I did gain .5 lbs today) came directly after eating cheese.

Or, it could just be PMS, which usually causes a weight gain of at least 5 lbs.

But, why does cheese do this? And if it's a yeast sensitivity (I noticed that my facial acne cleared up significantly after starting induction, then got worse again yesterday, which could also be PMS related), does yeast itself inhibit weight loss? After reading The Book it looks like Dr. Atkins is saying that yeast can cause cravings...but I haven't eaten more than 20 carbs a day at all (and I keep really careful track of what I eat...decades of dieting have made me a good student in record-keeping!).

TIA!

I have not heard of cheese causing stalls. Personally I eat a lot of cheese and have never stalled. I would totally think pms though. I usually stall as far as the scale goes, but after my period I have a whooooooooosh of weight loss because I was still in ketosis and my body did lose fat

I thought it was dairy in general. That some people have dairy intolerances that can cause them to not lose or gain.

Too much of a good thing can cause a stall. I think you are only supposed to have 3 or 4 ounces a day. I would also say whatch the salt. It can make you hold water.

Yes, its the sodium grabs the water. Some of the milder cheeses people dont stall on but the good rule of thumb is limit to no more than 4oz a day.
I love the more mature cheeses and they are loaded with sodium.

Hope that helps.

lovin' cheese

i too love cheese...slicin off a peice of block cheese is one of my favorite snacks. But I have to watch how much I eat because I think for some reason it tends to slow me.

It must be PMS, then, because I've generally eaten less than 2 oz/day, and have never eaten more than 3 oz in a day. Plus, the weight stall didn't occur until day 9 or 10, and I had eaten cheese almost every day.

I did lose 1.5 lbs today, so here's hoping that some more weight will fly off once my cycle comes around. Thanks!

I love cheese and ultimately ended up quitting Atkins when I tried it a few years ago and I really blame it on all the high fat dairy I thought I could "get away with" eating.

This time (and don't listen to me - I am only on day 2) I am planning to limit my dairy intake. Trying to keep the cheese to only 2 to 3 oz. and I am going to stay away from cream altogether other than the super occasional indulgance. When I have it...I think I need to eat unlimited quantities and I can't control myself. Better to just not buy it in the first place...and I'll take my calcium and multivitamin suppliments instead.

I'm feeling better about this after seeing a weight loss.

As I said before, I've not ever eaten more than 4 oz/day of cheese. And, even when I did, I was still registering weight loss. Seeing a stall this early in the game did freak me out a bit, but I feel much better today!
