Boy I can relate to this!!! I have been doing Atkins for about a month and only lost an initial few pounds, and all of that was water. I've lost nothing since! I am getting really frustrated. My measurments are the same, so it's not helping there either.
So, I have decided to cut out caffeine and all dairy products (cream, cheese, sour cream, etc.). Awhile back someone said they stall with bars and shakes, so I dropped those about 3 weeks ago. I also quit flavored seltzers and diet soda. I'm not using Stevia or Splenda. I don't chew gum or use mints. Seriously, other than chewing on meat, plain pork rinds and low carb veggies, I don't eat anything else. I know the Atkins approach works...7 years ago I lost 70 pounds very quickly. My thyroid tested normal and I take NO medications. I'm lost for an explanation....Argh! I'm hoping like heck that dropping dairy and caffeine will help!

Need Advise on leg cramps and consitipation
It is pretty normal for me to stay constipated off and on thanks to IBS-C. What suggestions, especially natural do you suggest to stay regular?
Also, I am taking a multivitamin, but having alot of leg pain. Should I add some potassium pills on top of the multivitamin? Thanks for any help! |

Hi,
darkgardyner- I don't lose even a pound if I drink caffeine. I found that out after 3 weeks on Atkins, then I dropped the caffeine and had decaf instead and lost 3 pounds. After rereading Dr. Atkins book again, I found I was doing a few things wrong. He does say no caffeine. The bars and shakes I don't touch either. I don't want to eat any type of processed foods. Atkins is a very healthy life style and I love what I eat. Sense you tweaked things you might start losing now. Good luck you can do it |

just a lil question, if you have about 15g carbs a day instead of 20g (sometimes i just can't fit all the 20g in) does it make a big difference? I've had now few days 3-4 without losing, or gaining weight, and i'm wondering what i'm doing wrong..

I, too, was very successful with Atkins about 12 years ago, lost about 40...fell off the wagon and gained it back...plus more! Been on induction for 3 weeks, did NANY the first two with no success...then went old school( the Atkins I knew I had success with) and was greeting frustrated with no results. But I kept with it, cut out bars, shakes, and switched to decaf and diet Rite (0 carbs, decaf, Splenda) and finally have lost 3.4 pounds this week so far...so yes! Stick to the plan! It does work!!! You may need to try a few tweaks for your own body, but it does work!

Frustrated and Confused
Im totally bummed to learn that apprently even though the atkins website advocates it and even puts it on a two week induction menu that bars and shake are off limits! I have an advantage breakfast shake and bar in the morning and then a late afternoon shake for a snack for a net total of 5g, all day and this is bad! The calories are pretty low considering one is a meal and one is a snack. I really need quick conveience foods because I am usually running out of the house with minus time! Any suggestions? Also coffee is a problem?! I keep reading that it is stalling people, why?

when I first started I had a problem of not losing, and it was due to not eating enough fat, I started eating more butter and the weight started to peel away.

If they are 8 oz glasses you could probably stand to drink a little more. I drink 5-6 16oz bottles a day for a total of 96 ounces. They say to try and drink half your body weight in ounces of water.

Bars and shakes
Everyone is different. I lost 47! Pounds in 4the months and I drank a shake every day! I averaged 3-5 bars a week. My stalls were when I did.t eat enough fat, didn't drink enough water, too many artificial sweetners and for some reason heavy cream slows me down. I never counted calories but did keep up with it. I averaged between 1600 and 2300 a day.

I really want to introduce the shakes and bars again! Not to mention I got a whole box full FREE and they can be pretty pricey!

HELP! Restart January 3rd 2012, I had lost 3.6 pounds but Saturday tried that MIO in my water and I am nolonger in ketosis and gained back the 3.6 plus .2 more. What the heck? I drink 75-95oz of water a day and this is a typical meal plan. Breakfast-4 sausage patties, lunch - salad or grilled meats with peppers, dinner a grilled meat and veggie, like brocoli or green beans or okra. Snacks are pork skins and string cheese. I have read that the mio didnt bother any one else but I have stopped using it. Dont understand the weight gain. Very hurt feelings this morning. I DO NOT CHEAT NOT EVEN A TASTE!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Don't get discouraged and let this gain make you give up. Most likely it is superficial gain either water, bloating, too much sodium, etc. As much as the first loss was encouraging that could have been water as well. The bottom line no matter what WOE you are on, losing weight comes down to calories in versus calories out and how your body burns those calories. There is no way just by having MIO you gained 3 pounds back, it takes 3600 EXTRA calories a day to gain just one pound. Keep your head up keep plugging forward its barely been a full week and you didn't gain it overnight so you cant lose it overnight. I have been battling the same superficial losses and gains this week. Give it time, one thing I do know is this WOE (Atkins) will work but you have to give it time. Good luck |

I'm wondering how you know what makes you stall? Do you just systematically stop one thing for a few days and if you still aren't losing stop something else? I guess it could be my metabolism (since I'll be 50 this year ~ yikes), but I remember in years past the pounds dropping off much quicker on a LC diet.

So far so good. I am on day 7 of Induction. I have lost 4 pounds now. I noticed that the mayo I have has sugar in it, so I am going to try and find something else. Also the fresh ranch dressing I bought also has sugar, so that's also a no go.
Other than that all is well in the land of jojohaligo. : ) |

2 weeks into induction
Hey all, new to the forum. I've been on Atkins now for almost 3 weeks. My first week I lost 13 lbs, this week I haven't lost anything. I got my period and it apparently kicked me out of ketosis. I'm wondering if the fact that I'm eating so healthy right now is what plateaued me already. I am trying to do low fat and low carb at the same time. Found substitutions for my favorite carbs Pasta-Spaghetti squash, Rice-grated cauliflower, Mashed potatoes-Mashed Cauliflower, Chips-Baked or raw Zucchini slices. Anyone have the same issue?

Hi there, i have lurked and read for the past 2 weeks as I am in the same predicament.
Some background info... I did atkins while in college about 7 years ago and literally dropped over 14lbs in a week and the weight continued dropping very fast... i lost over 35lbs in a month... I was walking and that was it. i kept it off for about 3 years and over the years the weight has crept up and continued creeping up... im back on Atkins and have been for nearly 3 weeks and have only lost 2lb in those 3 weeks. Im frustrated and very upset the weight is clinging on to me for dear LIFE... I dont cheat at all, not even a taste... Here is a typical day: Breakfast: 2 hardboiled eggs and 2 tbsp of may with 3 streaks of bacon OR 2 sausages Lunch: 2 cups of broccoli with coconut oil and 2oz of beef meatballs with 2 tbsp of cream cheese Dinner 2small chicken thighs with tbsp of cream cheese and 2 cups of salad with 2tbsp of mayo My calories intake im trying to stay with 1700-1800 a day as I am 5"7, 204lbs and 26yrs old. I walk to and from walk which is a 2 mile walk everyday (5/7 days a week) I also have been keeping my protein intake between 74-82g a day as i feared too much protein or anything more than 100g of protein was stalling me and my fats ae at 137-145g a day while NET carbs are about 15-18g a day. As off today i upped my water intake to 108ounces a day as i was drinking only 40ounces a day.. Is there anything i could be doing wrong? or do right to kickstart my weight loss?... 3 weeks is quite a longtime to have only 2lb loss... PLEASE HELP!!
