could be your allergies are causing you to retain fluids since an inflamed immune system will add fluids to the tissues it is working on. that could be your bloat issue.
Also drinking more water will actually help you release the water. Hang in there. The atkins will work if you work it and that is the issue with redoers they don't work their Atkins plan like they did the first time cause in their brains they know it will work and take sloppy shortcuts. Remember exercise is a mandatory part of the atkins plan so be sure you are doing both the aerobic and the resitants parts. IN DANDR chapter 15 Dr Atkins actually says if you are not exercising you are not doing his plan and he has a whole chapter on exercise. |

Hey "2big"....
Actually I read some posts from earlier this year, where they were discussing intestinal candida. I did the saliva test they mentioned and it came out positive, which completely explains the sudden bloating. And I think I know what did it - candida feeds off alcohol...and I had a straight vodka martini on Friday for my birthday and one last night at dinner with a long lost friend (albeit following all the other induction rules to a "T"). Thus, I woke up very bloated and looking like double the size I was at 2 days ago! I thought I had been shrinking, then suddenly it was like I became 6 months pregnant over night!! ![]() So, just to make darn sure I am doing everything I can, I am going to GNC tomorrow and getting a candida cleanse and follow the list of suggested foods to avoid to control it as well. And no more alcohol for me! Damn little candida critters rained on my parade! ![]() And yes, I do exercise...I ride my stationary bike and chase my dog, as well as clean my house like a mad woman! ![]() |

Need to add... at least 40 minutes on treadmill or elliptical daily, and 64 oz water. I have been in Induction for 3 weeks, and have lost 10 lbs in first 10 days but nothing since. I find if I lower my protein counts I get shaky.
Thanks for any suggestions... Karen |

I have no idea what the numbers after your foods are but coffeemate isn't induction legal
and what is Quote:
it is very normal to do exactly what you are experieincing on the scales on any weight loss plan Atkinseers even call it PISS. check your inches and you should see you are still shedding body fat as you work your Atkins to Morph your body even when the scales don't validate your hard work. Hang in there and see what happenes in a week. you might try adding some more water. congrats on starting that mandatory exercise part of your atkins too. |

Well my first week on induction was excellent and I felt great with 7 pounds down, then went into my second week and I know exactly what I shouldn't have done. Went to a party and had 4 strawberries and amaretta which I found out had 15 carbs per serving. Well now I'm back up a few pounds, but still sticking to it. I never did go into ketosis before that and stuck to it faithfully. Some people never do.
Still feeling really good even though I gained a few back, and sticking to it faithfully without the alcohol. Hopefully in another week, will see the pounds dropping again. Good luck to all! |

Hi. New to this thread. Lost 6 lbs. first week. Only .5 second week
I did lose inches. 1" around waist and 1" at hips. Surprised because I did exactly the same thing. Second week I even started working out. I am a week from starting period. That could be it I guess. I usually lose fast. Not resistant. But getting older. Good luck everyone. I am hangin in there. Lynn |

I have been in induction for 3 weeks now & have followed the book. I was eating pretty bad just before starting....Yet I have lost NOTHING....All measurements remain the same. I can't believe that I weigh the same after restricting myself from bad food for so long, as I did when I was pigging out. Im so discouraged that yet another diet doesn't work for me. I'm just really losing hope. Any words would help a lot.............. :/[/B][/B]

So hang in ther and if you are eating enough to feed your hunger and stopping even if you got food on the plate room in your belly and carbs in your budget; drinking all the required water taking the recommeneded supplements AND doing that mandatory exercise part of atkins and haven't lost any inches or pounds by the end of the 4th week do as Dr Atkins suggests in chapter 15 of your DANDR 2002. |

I started Induction on January 3rd. I was 280 pounds. I have YET to go under 271 pounds. Over 2 months, and barely 9 pounds lost? Granted, I did lose a couple of inches (very few), for which I am grateful. But it would be nice to see the scale drop!

What am I doing wrong? I'm eating beef, chicken, tuna, salmon, bacon, eggs and cheese and very, very rarely a small bit of lettuce and tomato with some Blue Cheese dressing (1 gram carb/serving). I am eating nothing else and am not hungry, but I am gaining weight. Is this thing legit, or have I been led down the path? I have yet to get one message in this forum either If I'm still going to gain weight, I'm just going to toss in the towel, why go without bread, beer, beans and other goodies if this thing doesn't work?Anyone home? |

Ia m near the end of week two. I lost 5 lbs on week one, but I didn't notice any difference n my clothes or in the mirror. I haven't lost as much this week--BUT I have had two different people comment to me that I looked like I lost weight, so it must be showing, just not to me.
It's very frustrating to be so tough on yourself and then not lose, but my suggestion is to add more exercise--even if it's just a walk around the block and an attempt at a couple of push-ups each day. It makes a huge difference! No matter your shape or circumstances, it can be done. I work with a man who has osteogenesis imperfecta, which means he has extremely weak bones. He is a dwarf and confined to wheelchair--and even HE finds ways to exercise. He lifts weights, swims and uses a device which is like bike pedal for his arms. He is my inspiration, for if he can find a way to stay fit, I can, too! |

I've been on induction for 5 weeks and have not lost an ounce.
Week one ... horrible HORRIBLE lack of energy Week two ... difficulty sleeping, mind racing finally realized I was in withdrawal from the carbs. 3, 4 and now 5 doing ok. Not much hunger, don't miss the carbs at all. Do eat an occasional small green salad or steamed green beans. did the fat fast twice. First time lost 3 pounds which came right back. 2nd time only last 3 days and quit from boredom. Discovered after week 2 that I DO have an issue with too much sodium so have been careful about that. Ketostix? Yesterday celebrated turning one to medium and this a.m. was back to trace. sigh. Had my thyroid checked a couple of years ago and it is fine. I think I am at the insulin resistant stage (i'm 64 and currently a good 70 pounds overweight). Checking fasting blood sugar every morning and it's at 92 and that's after taking cinnamon extract twice a day. So I"m plugging along trying not to be disappointed. AFter reading Gary Taubes's Why we get fat and what you can do about it I'm not going back to carbs EVER again. |

Hi all! So I did Atkins about two years ago and lost A TON! Then got into a good relationship and gained it all back
I'm trying again but nothing is coming off and I'm getting really frustrated!!! I keep fluctuating between two or three pounds- is it possible I am eating too many calories? drinking too much diet coke/diet pepsi? too much coffee...? HELP This was soooooo easy before- I don't know what happened... can anyone give me a menu they follow on induction that worked really well...? |

I am new to this as well. It's Day 8 of induction. After 5 days I had lost about 3 pounds. Then I got my period, and after six days I had gained back a pound and that is where I still am. 8 days and I've lost 2 pounds. The ketostix say I'm not in ketosis though I've been strictly following the diet despite the lack of progress. I'm doing the same amount of exercise. My period won't be over for another few days but I am so discouraged when I get on the scale that I'm beginning to think my body is only able to gain weight, not lose it.
I started at 148 lbs and for a moment I was down to 145, now I'm up to 146. Until a few months ago I have never weighed more than 138 lbs - I'm about 5'4". I'm trying to get down to my "comfortable" weight of about 130 lbs. which is where my clothes actually fit. Any suggestions? Could this ketosis problem and weight plateau be caused by hormones? I've read that ketosis can eliminate PMS but if anything I have more symptoms of PMS than ever before. Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated. thanks. |

Sydney!!!!! I am with you sister! I got into a good relationship and it was alll over! I am permanently in stretch pants now... hahahaha! I am getting my period this week... generally you get kicked out of ketosis during your period- you're not doing anything wrong... wait until the 2nd to last or last day of your period and then weigh yourself ... I predict a loss... that's what happens to me... hang in there!!!!!

I always thought that during induction you could "eat liberally" all sorts of fats, meats, eggs etc. Basically everything that has 0g of carbs. In fact, Dr. Atkins suggests leaving the skin on and NOT trimming the fat off of meats. And that you needed to eat at least 15 to 20g of healthy carbs; lettuce, veggies etc. My problem is portion control. I can eat large portions. For example; Breakfest - 3 egg omlette with 2 slices of American cheese. Lunch - Small Chicken with broccoli with oil and garlic only (chinese place knows me very well). Dinner - 2 Rib Eye steaks (about 16 oz each with bone) side of romaine lettuce or broccoli Rabe drizzled in Olive Oil. I do ZERO exercising. But plan to start soon.
Based on above I have moderate (dark pink) ketosis reading for the last 2 weeks. Lost maybe 3 to 5 lbs. in first week but in the last 2 weeks have lost nothing. I did Atkins about 10 years ago and lost 40 lbs. with ZERO exercise. I am now 42 and have since lost my gall bladder. Eating fats and protein is not easy without a gall bladder. Any suggestions on what I may be doing worng or is Atkins no longer for me??? |

Linonj, you are just eating too much. One of the benefits of Atkins is that protein and fat are more satisfying, so you don't have to eat as much to feel full. And you feel full for longer.
I would only eat as much as you need to not feel hungry. Any more is just extra calories. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks, and I have lost 23 pounds. I eat less, but I feel fine. I don't crave carbs, and and I don't even crave any food in general. I eat a little bit, 4 or 5 times a day. |

23 lbs in 3 weeks. Great for you!!!! One of the reasons why I did and hope to continue on the Atkins diet is the fact that I can eat as much as I want, as long as I stay away from carbs. If that goes away...my dieting days are over.
By the way, I am 6' 1" and presently weigh 245 lbs. I'd like to get to 215 or 220. |
