Does anyone else have trouble with the Snackies? I work out of my home, and everytime I walk by the table or the kitchen, there is food of some sort within reach? Also, what do you do when trying to stay at 20 carbs or so, and the Christmas suppers, etc for work? Do you blow one meal and try to stay at zero carbs the rest of the day and next, or what?

I am frequently in ketosis, and even with the strips turning dark, I don't lose weight. I don't understand this-- does someone have an explaination? It's so frustrating!

The strip only shows whether or not you're spilling any excess ketones. It does not mean you're out of ketosis.

You can be in ketosis and not spill any excess ketones.

That's why the strips are NOT the end all and be all to defining success. They are not 100% accurate as to what is going on.

Stuck on induction...

Hi All,
In response to the earlier post about yeast overlaod... I have heard of it but not what to do about it. I read a book, years ago "the yeast connection"... they recommended a statin drug to correct.

OK, I've been on induction and (like all previous times) and stuck at -7. I need to kick myself out of this before I get discouraged.

Atkins isn't a "diet"... it's a lifestyle change.

You can lose any amount you need to... but it's the keeping it off and eating healthy that is the "real goal".

If you have less to lose, your rate of loss will probably be slow... and you would progress through the phases of Atkins at a more rapid pace.

But there's no reason you can't "do Atkins".

To me the whole key has been that I feel better. And the foods that are acceptable are "my" kind of eating.

Ketosis isn't the primary goal, in my opinion. To lose weight and not be in ketosis should be the end goal. And I went over 2 wks without losing anything, but did lose inches during that time.

I made myself a promise that I was going to stick with it for 45 days, no matter what. And I was losing again by that 45 days. But not large number of pounds. But I also agree with others, that losing too much weight too fast probably isn't good for a person. And it didn't go on real fast either, so should come off the same way. It has taken me 30 years to be 30 lbs overweight. But I want it to come off much faster than that.

Induction Phase Questions???

Hi Everyone:

I am a newbie to the boards and on day 5 of the induction phase. I've tried the Atkins diet about 3 years ago and lost 30 lbs in a short period of time. Howver, I went back to eating many carbs and sugar and gained it all back plus some. I started the induction phase this Monday 1/15 and have a few questions about a couple of items I've seen in the store with low net carbs.

1. Can I have Blue Bunny low carb ice cream bars? The total net carbs are 2g. It is made with sucrolose?
2. I drink flavored water sweetened with sucrolose. Does anyone know how many carbs I should count for a 16oz bottle of water sweetened with sucrolose?
3. I read on of the posts which stated that the sugar free candies may stall the weight loss. Can these be eaten in moderation?

Thank you for your help. I am so happy I found this site. One of the reasons why I fell off the wagon before was the lack of recipes and variety of food I could eat.

I have found that the flavored drinks can be addictive, and stall out more than water. In my case. I could drink Crystal Lights all day and forget any water.....................................Not good.

I believe others have said count at least one carb for every flavored drink.

The strips don't work for everybody.

All they tell you is whether or not your body is getting rid of excess ketones.

They do not tell you if you're being successful... the scale and the tape measure do that!

I am learning that "cheating" is not what it seems to the eye.
What one may not think of as "cheating" might just be something that stalls me. What works for some might not work for others.

30lb of fat to loose and 2 weeks in still have 30lb to loose

I weigh 200lb and would like to weigh 170 with no belly fat! I am 5'10. I go to the gym 2-4 times per week. I normally eat 2 eggs in the morning, atkins bar for a snack, steak/chicken for lunch with some pepper jack cheese, and the same for dinner. I feel satisfied as far as the amount of food I'm eating... After doing this for 2 weeks I thought I would see some results but don't. The stix say I'm in ketosis and I'm drinking a lot of water. I'm not giving up but just wondering what else I can do... I want to be slim and trim by the time summer gets here- really sooner!

Where's the vegetables?

Atkins is more about the vegetables than anything... you must get 12-15 net carbs from vegetables per day while doing Induction!

I would also get rid of the Atkins bar... they stall many, if not most.

Atkins is about unprocessed food!

Ditto on the Atkins bar. You might want to check out the first post on the Atkins 72 thread which outlines all the food choices.

Also... there's a "rule of thumb" that you should eat 10-12 times your current body weight in calories while losing... I can't believe you're doing that.

Undereating, both in calories and carbs will mean... NO losing!

If you want to post exactly what you're eating, we can take a look.

Are you eating a minimum of 12-15 net carbs from vegetables every day?

Are you drinking a minimum of 64 oz of water every day?

I do believe I have what the Adkins book talks about yeat overload... I am going to a nutritionalist next week....
Any suggestions? There is no way I can cut out as much as your suppose to with the yeast overload so I hope this nutritionalist can help me....
I'm suppose to do a yeast free, sugar free, vinager free... Very impossible for me for the vinager free... I've been doing very well with the yeast free and sugar free!
Theres a thing you can do in the morning to see if you have yeast overgrown my husband read about it and I did it this morning b4 drinking anything. take a cup of water and spit salava in it and wait about 1 hour or 2 if the glass with the salava grows legs hanging down u have yeast overgrow i have some also i tried it also this morning its amazing what you can find out. we are going to have our colons cleans by a professional. take about 1 hour and she cleans whole colon and u need to go back every 6 months or so to really have it cleaned out good. once it all cleaned u will be ok Joy

About 5 years ago I lost 40 pounds on Atkins and was maintaining pretty well until I had a hysterectomy which completely destroyed my metabolism. I started induction last Sunday 3-11 (I made it thru the first two weeks!!).

Last time I was on induction for a solid month before I started to see any results. Very discouraging but I stuck with it. I know this time is going to be even harder due the change in my metabolism but I am determined to stick with it!

So don't get discouraged by others losing several pounds and you aren't losing at first, everyone's bodies are different. For me, I never had the burst of energy that many get. Also I found the first 4-8 the days the hardest, it seems like once I got past that I was more in a routine.

Hang in there, I know I am!!

Hi people,

just started Atkins on monday. Lost about 6lbs already but i know it is also a lot of water.
My experience to the matter is if you don't lose weight measure your body because it is possible with exercise that you gain muscles and muscles are heavier then fat.
Second stay away from light drinks as much as possible. Best thing to drink is pure water and i know it is not always easy but try to drink water at a temperature you like to drink it.
Sounds maybe strange but not everybody likes to drink water when its cold.
3. And most important DON'T GIVE UP !!
Studies have shown that this diet is going faster then any other diet in a year. So be patient and we will try to support eachother.

Sunday will be a real first test for me.
I have being invited to "De Ronde van Vlaanderen" event as a VIP.
There will be lunch and i don't know what they will serve.
You also have to know that me, as wineimporter, staying away from wine is not easy.
So i made a deal with myself to consume only 2 glasses on every sunday.

What i was affraid for did happen.
2 glasses champagne
4 glasses of wine dry
2 glasses of beer
Didn't eat any of the bread but had 2 little sushi and i think there was a little rice in there.
Second course was all meat so no prob there.
Main course fish with some Danish pastry
And dessert was a little piece of cake in chocolate.
I really hated myself the day after and also at that point because the problem was that i was invited and couldn't refuse everything.
So yesterday back on track but still no ketosis like it was previous week.
Thats the problem if you can not control the menu.

3.5 weeks on induction here and actually up one pound. No hidden sugars, no cheats. I have some sample menus in my journal here karen jeanne's journal. I don't eat any of the treats bars or shakes. No nuts or berries.
breakfast is usually one cup of coffe w sugar twin & cream. Maybe a revolution roll with a piece of leftover meat. Lunch is either tuna with mayo or leftover meat & sugar free jello. Maybe a piece of cheese. Supper is the usual fair of steak or chicken maybe hot wings with side salad and renees cesar dressing. zero sugar / carbs in that dressing. Or I will have a side of broccoli or cauliflower or green beans w butter & mrs. dash. I don't even eat pork rinds. I only have about 15 pounds that I wish to lose. Yes I have a thyroid issue. I had the radioactive iodine drink years ago and have been on a plan of some sort ever since to prevent the weight gain that tends to come with having no thyroid at all. I was on atkins for 5 years... induction seems to work only for maintenance for me lol. At that time I ate the atkins bars, macadamia nuts and pork rinds daily. Then for a change I switched to a low fat no sugar low cal... after 6 months I gained 8 pounds & went immediately back to atkins induction to prevent any further gain, which seems to be all I can do. My clothes are getting uncomfortably tight now. I do drink lots of water, I have a water cooler behind my desk at work so its readily available all day. I tried adding the eloo 2 tbsp dailly on an empty stomach an hour from eating before & after with no results. Any thoughts?

height 5'5"
