I guess the link didn't work, sorry. Just go towards the top of the page where it says "search". Click on that then do an "advanced search" for "menopause' and select to show thread titles only.

Any amt of exercise you do is good, esp if you wern't doing any before.

discouraged

I started Atkins a few weeks ago. I lost a few pounds the first week and than nothing. I did get discouraged cause I thought I was doing everything right. And when I didnt lose, like I thought I should lose, I gave up. I am determined now, especially after reading the many posts on this one, that I am not the only one whose body does this and it is normal. I just figured the diet didnt work for me. So, maybe this go around I will do better.

Hello All,

I'm into my fourth week of Atkins, and my loss on the scale has also been minimal. However, I am noticing my clothes fitting slightly better, so that has been encouraging. I have about 100 pounds to lose, so it's difficult to stay motivated at times. What keeps me motivated are the other positive changes I've experienced, including more energy, less joint pain, clearer thinking, and best of all, having control over my sugar intake.

My advice is to give it time and focus on all of the positive changes, not just the numbers.

Take care,
Julie

i never did anything but gain on atkins. now i know it was too much protein for me. check out some of the writings on the subject of excess protein. i would worry less about the fat since our brain and thyroid (amoung other things) rely on it. how 'bout adequate protein and fat along w plenty of vegies?

Thanks!

I was so discouraged until I read this. I had lost 8 lbs the first week but gained 6 of them back the second. I have decided to stop weighing every day. I think It's too easy to get discouraged that way. I have to remember to think long term!

Thanks for the info!

I have gained about 2lbs in two weeks. I am now counting calories and going to try to keep it under 2000 per day but keep the fat content up. My sugar cravings seem to be finally dieing off so that is a good sign. I am hoping that the new adjustment will work for me. I need to stay on low carb as low calorie makes me very hungry ALL the time.

If the calorie counting doesn't work then I will take a look at cutting out coffee and I also chew sugar free gum which has malitol in it. I am going to try to keep that down to a minimal amount (3-4 pcs)

Keep in mind that there's a limit of 3 servings of artificial sweetener per day with Atkins, and that each piece of gum is a serving.

well I'm switching to Stillmans for a few days to see if I can knock myself in to ketosis. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Drink lots of water, brush your teeth often, chew parsley, or even mint leaves.

Because they keep your addiction alive.

Because they don't help you lose.

Because there's studies that show that AS has the same response in your brain as sugar does... it tells your brain that "sugar is coming"... and your brain sends out the signal to send out the insulin... spiking your blood sugar.

Because it's chemical junk.

Just a small stall

Well, this has cheered me up somewhat. I haven't gone that long without weight loss, yet!

Still: I was losing weight nicely in week one (one kilo pretty much from the start), then stalled out and have only lost half a kilo over the next 10 days.

Today I weighed myself to find out I'd actually GAINED weight and was in despair. I understood the comment about "I felt like I wanted to cry and eat all the bread in the world."

I'll do yesterday's menu as an example, in case someone spots something I've missed. My carb counts are from the USDA food calculator and you can see I'm focused on gaining those carbs from vegetables with the treat of the roasted onion to keep me from feeling deprived. I really can't see that eating tablespoons of heavy cream to top up the count to 20 can possibly make sense.

Beverages: 2 liters still water and then 1.5 liters iced tea (home made from green tea leaves and fresh mint with a little bit of sweetex mixed in. I'll drop the sweetex I guess. *frown*

Monday Menu

breakfast:
2 scrambled eggs: 2.6
and cheddar cheese: 0

lunch:
fillet steak: 0
fried in butter: 0
with 1 clove garlic: .5
roasted asparagus: .8

white squash slices: 3% ... probably 1.5 each
grilled with olive oil: 0
with 20g goats cheese: .1

dinner:
grilled chicken: 0
2 teaspoons mustard: .5
1/2 onion: 6
sausages: 0
chard: 2

12 olives @ .2 per olive: 2.4

total carbs: 15.9

Joy, I've got the same problem. I lost 50 pounds a few years ago and it was SO EASY!

Now, I've been forced to actually USE FitDay and I'm going to buy a food scale to make sure I get the amounts accurate. ugh.

Hi to all thats stalling. I had the same problem in the past.I went to Vitamin world and the guy who works there told me to take a tablespoon mixed with water is this colon clean fiber powder with 100% pysuim Husk spelled it wrong but it works it does something with the carbs we are eating and makes better bowel movements since I've been drinking the stuff daily I broke my stall. you can order the 3 lbs jar of it on Vitacost.com it does work and curbs your cravings and hunger. hope this infor will help Joy good Luck.
also forgot to mention Im drinking over 100 0z of water a day also to flush me out.

I have cut out the sf jello, whipped cream, dry wine, I dont use bars or shakes... I've even started taking lengthy walks several times per week which I have never done before. Still nothing! Its insane. My body is so stubborn.

yes, I keep thinking it will all just break through as time goes on I guess. I am about a month in and I really only lost that first week. I have played with my calories, menus etc. but I am not really going up or down so I am just going to assume my body is trying to figure out what to do...lol

Maybe a good thing would be to stop counting cals because i see a lot of people here that are counting the cals and there total is way to low.
You have to switch of the calorie switch in your head because if you don't you put your body in defense because it gets not enough to function normally.
Just count you CARBS...
Then drink enough water because this is also a very important issue and i know people that are saying they drink enough but when you ask they only drink 1 liter so really force yourself in drinking water.
And ofcourse enough fibres will help.
This is my opinion and it works for me.
I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks much. All very good ideas and I sometimes I slack on the water and fiber thing. I am holding strong and just building into the fact that I feel good about my food choices and feel great weight or not.
