I agree. Induction for me has to be <15-20 carbs. If I get up around 25 carbs I don't lose anything. Every one is different but if I am not mistaken Induction is supposed to be <15-20 carbs. 25 - 35 is for OWL. The amount of carbs you are currently eating, while lower than the average American diet, would be more appropriate for OWL, but for me 35 - 40 would be maintenance level (CCLM).

I have been on induction for 9 days. So far I have lost 7 lbs. I find it hard to not eat late at night. Soon school will start and I will be in bed early. Arrgghh

According to the Atkins web site, cheese is ok on induction. I wouldn't make a meal out of it, but in smaller quantities it is ok. This is what it said: (sorry, the formatting messed up the chart)

I have been on induction for a couple of months now and am only losing 1-1.5lbs per week ...have from the beginning, never had that big 5-10lb weight loss I hear from people, but I know everyone is different.

I do think I'm probably eating too much cheese though ...I thought it was limitless and didn't think about serving size...I also have been having cottage cheese that I just noticed as 3grams of carbs per 1/2 cup, so that might be an issue too.

I know that 1-1.5 is still a loss though weekly and I'm happy for that, it's just that I have a lot to lose and I'm impatient I guess...especially since my husband is losing twice as fast eating the same thing ( of course ).

Anyone gain on their fist week of Induction?

I started on Monday,gained a pound, then gained 1/2 a pound, lost the half pound, stayed the same and finally today, Saturday, I am back at my start weight. Have been keeping carbs under 20, no bars or shakes, calories 1000-1600.

Yesterday my carbs were 15 with 1000 calories. I guess I have to count both carbs and calories.

I do both ultra low carbs and low kcals -- I wanted quick results and I got them as well as knowing (I hope ) what my maintenance threshold is (1200-1400 kcals and 10-14 carbs daily). I'm so carb-sensitive!!

Rotel has sugar and too many carbs, Queso is not real cheese. Go buy some real chedder cheese, not the slices either which are not real cheese either. Find a good salad dressing that you like with low carbs and 0 sugar or as close to 0 as you can. If your grilled chicken is from home , that's good. If it's from a restaurant or drive-thru, it's probably injected with sugar. I don't see any vegetables either.
Read these guidelines for induction:
4. VEGETABLES-Remember, the 20 grams of carbohydrates that you consume per day should mostly come from vegetables. You can have 3-4 cups of salad or 2 cups salad, 1 cup cooked vegetables per day using only the vegetables on the acceptable food list. This is very important. Eliminating the vegetables may shut down your metabolism and your weight loss will stall.
For your breakfast add 3-4 slices bacon or sausage with no carbs or sugar, plus your eggs.
I hope this helps......

Carri, 1-1/2 lbs per week is great! Keep up the good work...
I would not eat cottage cheese though. It's way too high in carbs. Full fat is 1cup=8grams, low-fat 1 cup=10grams carbs. Just buy some real cheese with low carbs. Use your carbs for vegetables and salad.

You are right Dottie! In fact it looks like Rotel has less carbs and less sugar than any of the cans of stewed tomatoes I have in my cabinet. 4G Carbs and 3Grams sugar for Rotel. I might start using it again because of the low carb count. It's just so hot for me....
Can we agree though that Queso (Velveeta) is not real cheese?

Velveeta is not real cheese.
I haven't looked a label in many years, but that is my recollection.

I used to like the spicy rotel, but my tolerance for lots of spicy stuff has moderated of late.
I still can go with a pinch of cayenne in just about anything, but two pinches is one too many.

The lower carb on the Rotel is very good but sometimes I don't want hot unless it is in Mexican type of food where I expect it.. I think that's why I really quit buying it. I'm just not a hot sauce person. It's not in my blood. I went somewhere the other day to eat and they had put hot sauce in the green beans. I told the waitress because I eat there a lot and she said it was the new guy in the kitchen.

Just JO and Crazy1-
I so relate and am coming out of denial once again...I must track both my calories and stay at a very low 11 or so daily carb count. I celebrate that I no longer have the carb cravings as I have eliminated most sugars from my diet BUT I now know that menopause and my intolerance of carbs means that I am super sensitive
Oh Well....

Juniper,
If you eliminate All sugar from your diet, stay under 20g carbs, you will loose and in three days the cravings will subside.

It will get easier the more time goes by that you are on Atkins. Trust me I was such a horrible rule follower for Atkins in the beginning. I had my husband buy a new fridge and put all the non Atkins friendly food in it and lock it. Sad I no. But it had to be done and it worked! Seems like torture but it helped me get through the first month and after about 2 weeks to a month it seems to get so much easier because you crave less and your body is used to the low carbs. YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY DO IT SO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

Just post it someone can try to help. If your stats are right, you're probably just so close to ideal weight that your weight loss will be super slow anyway. But you never know.

Hi guys I'm kind of a lurker, lol. I am a long time low carb lady, eating that way naturally (I avoid processed foods, sugar, grains, etc.) Recently I decided to do low carb for weight loss (it worked well for me 16 years ago, but my weight has crept up to 215 lbs on my 5 ft frame.) I have often stopped in here through the years to find advice or answer questions I couldn't easily answer elsewhere.

I am active (walking 4 times per week with a couple of longer, more strenuous hikes per month, plus yoga 3 x per week, alternating with my morning walk.) I drink plenty of water. I eat clean (non-starchy veggies, meat, eggs, some cheese.) I do drink 4 cups of coffee per day, with heavy cream, sometimes with Splenda. I am in ketosis, registering on the keto strips in the small to medium range, and have been for 9 days.

For me, doing clean low carb basically meant dropping wine and the occasional dark chocolate square, plus starchy veggies like sweet potatoes and corn from my diet. And skipping the once per week french fry fix, lol. I needed to up my water, and decrease my coffee from 6 cups to 3 or 4.

I keep it below 20 carbs consistently.

So…what's my issue? Well, I started at 215.2 lbs on Sept 1st…and am currently at 215.6. I feel a bit discouraged. Not sure I can cut anything else. I am beginning to wonder if I need supplementation. Or if I am experiencing a food allergy (haven't added anything new to my diet.) Also, I have been feeling really lethargic, almost to the point of depression, I'd say. First day or two, I thought, 'oh, good! Must be detox!' but it has been a week of that too, now. I recall feeling much better on the protocol before.

Any immediate suggestions?

Thanks!

Drop all dairy? Add more veggies? Eat more? Some hAve negative rx to that much caffeine....or just stick it out and wait for a whoosh. A week is nothing, if you're being good it will happen.

Miss Bliss - I have a few food intolerances/allergies that I've had to drop as well as carbs. You've already cut out the corn and other starchy veggies. I'd also suggest no iceberg lettuce, and dropping down to no more than two ounces of cheese per day. Cream in my coffee doesn't bother me, but cheese does stall me.

And....oddly - I had to get rid of tomatoes and other nightshades for awhile. **sigh**

Hang in there. I'm doing my best to stay clean as well, even with the added intolerance restrictions.

I wish I could say it's easy. But it's not ... not for me. Not everyone will lose huge amounts of weight on this eating plan. But that does not mean those that do not, are failing. It doesn't mean that we are doomed to be overweight forever either.

I found this information posted below both comforting and reassuring, especially since I actually gained 4 pounds during the first few days of induction.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exerpts From "The Atkins Essentials" book:
Although each individual is different, weight loss of 4 to 8 pounds is typical the first two weeks of Induction if the program is followed to the letter. Some people lose even more, others less.
But understand there is no magic number. You may be a fast loser or a maddeningly slow loser. But rest assured that after the first 4 or 5 days, you've lost all the water weight you are going to lose. From now on, every ounce-and every inch- that comes off is solely fat!
If you get on the scale and notice that you are not losing by your fourth of fifth day, measure yourself to check if inches are coming off. If inches also are not disappearing, you need to get moving and exercise more. You should also make sure that you are consuming plenty of natural fat and not overconsuming protein. Protein is crucial for feeding your body, but if you eat huge amounts of protein it can actually get in the way of fat burning and stall weight loss.
While you can comsume more calories on Atkins and lose more weight than on a low fat program, it is possible to overconsume calories or to eat too little and slow down your metabolism. That is why it is important to eat at least 3 meals daily.
(Still not losing? Metabolic resistance ...can be broken through with the Fat Fast, info to be posted separately)
Whether it was easy or hard, whether you lost 2 pounds or 8, you made it through your first week. Take a moment and pat yourself on the back. Stay focused and stick to your plan.
Week Two..... to be posted separately[/COLOR]
New to this forum
Just joined, this is my first post. What do the "colors" mean that everyone posts? I am 50 yrs old and have put on about 25 pounds in the past 10 years. I was at my highest weight, 163 lbs (I am 5'4") excluding being pregnant. I am in the third week of induction, definitely in ketosis. I lost 5 pounds the first week and only one the second. Now, 4 days into week 3 and the scale is not moving. I am eating meats, eggs, veggies, salads and nuts...that is all! Have been super strict with watching carbs and drinking lots of water. I find that snacking on almonds or walnuts curbs my hunger at work. Wondering if this is slowing my weight loss? Any suggestions?
