"HARD CORE" ATKINS '72 INDUCTION GROUP

Are you full on Induction and/or Extended Induction on the 1972 version to the MAX?? Join us and let's share our interest, experience and tips.

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 01:07 PM

I'm with you Bonny Jean! If you're STRICTLY following 72, this is the place to post, but no complaining if you're not following it and we call you out on it. ;) That's what this thread is for, to keep us honest and on track if we're die hard 72ers.

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 01:14 PM

I hit a new low today of 139.6, so I'm totally officially no longer overweight!!!! How totally crazy is that???? And, since I'm in maintenance now, I have finally added in a few carbs. Each morning I have one of those Wholly Guacamole Mini Cups of Guacamole. They are 100 calories and 5 carbs. Other than that, I don't add anything else. So far, I'm still losing with my 5 carbs per day. I'm not quite ready to add more yet though. LOL

"Hard Core" newbie!

Thanks so much for starting this group! Wanted to say hello again and re-post my message from the other '72 board:

Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to LC & have been following this group for a while now. Just wanted to introduce myself and give a big "thanks!" to all of you for sharing your experiences, ideas, and most of all, your encouragement.

I started doing the "new" Atkins on July 4 then started working the '72 plan this past Sat., July 17. I prefer the "keep it simple" method of '72 and find it easier to stick with.

I weighed this morning and the scale hasn't budged at ALL. I know it's early, but shouldn't I at least have dropped one pound? I'm starting to wonder/worry if this is going to work for me? Since Saturday, my carbs per day have been around 3-5 (or less) and calories around 1300-1500. I'm eating nothing but eggs, bacon, chicken breast, ground beef, mayo, tuna, and a bit of cream. I have a small frame and am only 5'0 tall. Am I eating too much? According to the keto calculator, I need stick to 996 cal./day to lose 2.8 lbs. in a month. Ugh - how depressing!!

I know I'm starting with less to lose than some, but these 20+ extra lbs on my small 5' frame are HUGE for me.

I sure would appreciate any words of advice/tips/ideas you can share...

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 01:36 PM

Welcome Moxiems! Are you hungry for that many calories? Actually hungry, not just eating to eat? You should never go hungry, so if you actually need that many calories to not be hungry, than that's what you should eat. I usually have around 1200 calories each day. If you're not losing at all, you might want to try cutting down a little and see how you do. You are pretty little already, so you probably will lose a little slower, and remember that when you make changes, they may not show the next day on the scale, so if you make any changes, give it a week or two to determine if it's working for you.

What kind of cream are you using? Have you checked the label on it to be sure that there aren't any hidden carbs in it?

Neener207 07-18-2014 01:39 PM

All 72 for me. I am going to post my menus for a few days as my weight is still fluctuating and I can't figure out why. UGH Not sure what I'm having for dinner yet.

Bonny-Jean 07-18-2014 01:46 PM

Afternoon All :hiya:

Yay, a place where we can be comfortable doing our Atkins 1972 Induction version 100% on plan. :jumpjoy: We work very hard to achieve all the good things that come with Dr. Atkins purist version of his ketone woe. I am yet another success story on how following his plan/book will work for you as well.
MG, Jo, myself and a few others have given advice, information and an abundance of support to our fellow '72 Inductees and they are also doing amazing.
Thank you to everyone who has given me the same advice and lucky I chose to heed their words adamantly. I am 74 lbs down in 10 months and so grateful to people like mthergoos and JustJo to name a couple.

Will be shopping on Netrition in the future when I get to maintenance and can
add in some nice low carb extras!!! Whoo-hoo. Any month now!!

So my other good news for the day is:

*****************************************

July 1..... 159.4
July 7..... 156.8
July 14 ... 155.1
July 21....
July 28....

July 15.... 155.0
July 16.... 155.2
July 17.... 154.6
July 18.... 154.0 Yowzer!!!

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 01:49 PM

Neener, please post them and let's see if we can figure it out. How long has it been fluctuating? Don't be discouraged if it's just been a couple of weeks. As I've said before, I usually really just have one week each month where I lose, and 3 weeks of my weight bouncing up and down. Sometimes as much as 3 pounds or a little more. It bounces up and down for 3 full weeks usually before I'll hit a new low and then the process starts all over again. As long as you stay really consistent and patient, it will drop again.

bmac13 07-18-2014 01:56 PM

HEY HEY HEY A '72 IS THE WAY!!

Hi Ladies:hiya:;

We figured you guys would resurface somewhere!! Glad I've found you and the "Hard Core" thread!:jumpjoy:

Not sure if you ladies were reading the other thread at all, but I'm sitting at 200.0 exactly today. My doc's scale told me I was at 197 yesterday. How crazy is that!???!!!??

I added back mushrooms last night. I had one half a cup of sliced white mushrooms and fried them up with garlic and butter. It was about 5-7 slices total and worked out to about 1.15 carbs. Let me just say that they were so good! And I went down another 0.7 today so I'm thinking I'm good to have a few mushrooms every now and then. Yay:jumpjoy:

Super Congrats MG on getting out of the "overweight" category! That is so amazing!

I'm really hoping for onederland tomorrow. I only have 0.1 to go!

Going to a baseball game tonight with 29 people(a friend's b-day) and I'm really excited to get out and about. I feel so much more confident now and I just bought an outfit to celebrate meeting my first goal. Should be a good time.

Hope everyone has a great night and a great weekend. :)

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 02:00 PM

BMAC, the Dr scale is usually pretty accurate, maybe your scale at home is weighing you heavier? Either way, congratulations on your losses! You should feel confident and enjoy the game and the new outfit! Remember to focus on the event, not the food. Don't let the nachos and beer tempt you!

bmac13 07-18-2014 02:03 PM

I know I'll be good with the food part of it. That pretty much doesn't phase me anymore. And I'm holding off on eating my dinner until right before we leave so that I will not be hungry at all. The beer part of it, well...it's gonna suck. That is probably the hardest part for me through all of this. And it's not because I normally drink all that often, but I do enjoy an ice cold beer in certain situations. A ball game is one of them. Sitting by the campfire is another. But, I'll manage. I've come WAAAYYYYY TOO FAR already to have a beer mess me up. I'm a carb warrior! I got this!!!!

Thanks so much for your reply, @MthrGoos! To be honest, a lot of my eating lately has been out of boredom, stress, "life," and I could certainly cut calories.

My cream is OK, BUT I just discovered my hidden enemy...seasoning! 1 tbs. of onion powder has 5.6 carbs, garlic powder has carbs, too. I feel silly for not checking before. No wonder I'm not losing - I've been using that stuff liberally in my eggs, on burgers, chicken, everything. Here I was thinking I was close to zero carbs...ugh! Well, at least I know what to fix...

Any tips on spices, seasonings, etc.?

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 02:10 PM

I buy Johnny's Seasoning Salt because it doesn't have sugar in it. I have to order it online. Seasonings are usually plant based, so they do have some carbs, but you can definitely look for lower carb choices. And maybe, instead of snacking when you're not hungry, come here and read or post. I honestly have found that it can help keep me from eating when I really am not hungry anyway.

DelaneyLC 07-18-2014 02:13 PM

I'm with you guys! Have had awesome support so far with this great group!

Skinnycj 07-18-2014 02:14 PM

Glad to see you two ladies are posting. I am all '72 so I will be here with you all. I ran out of pork rinds and made a meat and pork rind store run. Got some delicious steaks from costco can't wait to have one tonight. I hope once my TOM is over my scale will show I have lost more or at least no gain. I made the mistake of going on the scale and saw a 2lb jump and freaked out since I have been strict with the diet but I guess bloat and hormones does that.

B- bulletproof coffee
L-pork rinds
D-steak with butter

My mini goal for the end of this month is 158. I am at 164 (before period). Do you all think it's a realistic goal for the next two weeks?

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 02:25 PM

Nice to see you Delaney!

Skinny, don't let it discourage you. You know it happens, and it has nothing to do with what we're doing or not doing usually. Hormones and water definitely play into it. Just stay 100% on plan and don't let the numbers mess with your head. Also, remember that pork rinds definitely cause water retention for a lot of people, so they aren't making you gain, but they might be making you show a gain on the scale. 6 pounds in 2 weeks is a lot, but it could happen. But even if it doesn't , that's okay. You're still losing and getting healthier and that's what matters.

Skinnycj 07-18-2014 02:33 PM

Thanks mthergoos. I am adding lots of walking in rather than my usual strength training exercise and hope that will make the difference in me losing a little quicker. I like to aim high for my goals it make it like a challenge for me and I love that. I know 6lbs is a lot to go in two weeks and if I don't make it I will still be happy with any loss. We have a baby shower to go to the last day of the month and I want to feel like I've lost a good amount before then. It seems like my tummy is my trouble spot and I don't see huge loss there yet but it could be just me. I noticed my face and neck look thinner. Went to a play date and my friend took a picture that I was in and my stomach looked fat! It was embarrassing since she posted it on FB. I want that nasty spare tire gone!

bmac13 07-18-2014 02:37 PM

Pork rinds for sure make me retain water. My scale wontbudge I'd I have too much. Anything really salty does that for me.

DelaneyLC 07-18-2014 02:40 PM

Bmac I miss my beer too, not a sip has passed these lips since I started LC. Like you it wasn't often but every now and then...

Now I am cutting out the cheese for a few days and going with eggs & meat plus fat. Having some lettuce and celery since I need some veggies for other health reasons.

Going on the elliptical later if I have the energy!

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 02:41 PM

Bonny Jean, AWESOME!!! Congratulations!!! You always impress me!

Nothing for me either since May 11, 2014. I specifically had a beer the day before I started because I knew it would be a long while before I had one again. It doesn't bother me all the time, but there are certain instances where I think man that beer looks so good right now! But, I just have another drink of my water and keep being a carb warrior.

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 02:43 PM

Delaney, I would cut the veggies before the cheese. Just be careful and try to keep them down to 2 cups each day maximum. I know some people do have a problem with cheese. I love it, but I keep it to 1-2 ounces per day.

Bonny-Jean 07-18-2014 02:44 PM

Oh, look at mthergoos go with all her wisdom and support. You rock MamaG (my pet name) MY pet name.

One of the best ways to help is for you to show us a full day's menu, and include EVERYTHING. All the foods and everything you drink and/or add to your drinks. You might be really surprised at what could be found to be causing your grief. Sometimes it's the silliest thing.

The term "hard core" might sound intimidating to some but that is how this will work and work fast, so are you in it to win in?? Then hang on and we'll help you get there better and faster.

:welcome: everyone!! :hiya:

:jumpjoy: Yay, but on the other hand, I thought I was getting close to catching you. :annoyed: You amaze me. :notwrthy:
I think starting with 5 a day if perfect! Are you gonna stay with the same food every day for a week or so???

Skinnycj 07-18-2014 02:50 PM

Bmac yeah I am not sure if the pork rinds makes me retain water I guess I will see what my scale says after AF is gone. If it shows high I will know water retention from the rinds. Then I will give them a break for a few days and try the scale again:) it's just an way food to eat for me I actually rehydrate them by steaming in a little water and homade salsa which doesn't use tomatoes and eat it. It is spicy and filling.

MtherGoos 07-18-2014 02:55 PM

What's in the salsa Skinny?

DelaneyLC 07-18-2014 02:58 PM

B- 2 scrambled eggs & 3 slices Canadian bacon with butter, 2 cups coffee with cream & SF syrup
L- 2 hard boiled eggs, chopped with mayo & mustard, 2 slices Canadian bacon
D- will be a grilled hamburger patty with bacon & lettuce with homemade dressing (olive oil, wine vinegar, mustard)

Skinnycj 07-18-2014 03:00 PM

Bonnie I am very hard core in anything I set out to do so this is no different I want to be skinny ASAP:) I love the title not intimidating but motivating to stick to it right. I know some people are touchy but I agree if you aren't sticking with it then don't complain if you have setbacks and get called out. That is just me though. I have loved all the advice you ladies have given me so far and take it to heart as you ladies are proof that sticking with it and doing it right gets results and that's what I want. Thanks for starting this new thread love it!

Skinnycj 07-18-2014 03:01 PM

Mther- it had tomatillo, Serrano chili peppers, salt and a dash of garlic powder

bmac13 07-18-2014 03:04 PM

Delaney-are you sure the Canadian Bacon isn't tripping you up? The stuff we have here (In Canada) is loaded with Dextrose and Sugar Cane. I have yet to find one that is zero carbs and doesn't have sugar as one of the first 5 ingredients.
