Potty issues, yes because you are metabolizing foods differently. Have you experienced the nightly sound sleep then gotta go to the loo thingy? I get up once a night for a loo break. That's always been part of this WOE for me personally.

I was joking the other day with a gal that was told she wasn't drinking enough water and so she started toting a gallon of water everyday with her everywhere.

She said "they" were right she needed more water and that caused her to lose a few pounds -- but I pointed out that it was her frequent trips to the loo and luggin and chugging 8 lbs of water cause she was getting her exercise that caused her to lose weight!!

Trying to follow '72

At one time I had the book, haven't been able to locate it. This board is a lot of help for a newbie. I tried Atkins a long, long, long time ago. Obviously I didn't stick with it. I just remember eating a lot of ham and cheese omelets. I couldn't remember anything else. I was young and easily lost the weight back in the day, now it's a different story. I will keep reading posts and will get it figured out.

I do have to say that I totally enjoyed my steak....and after the salad, I was full after eating half the steak...hubby did it perfectly pleasantly pink..lol

I am so glad I found this board...so happy to hear of all the successes...don't remember names yet but the one that is going home...they are going to be speechless...be so proud of yourself..you look amazing!!

A little about me:
I am 5'1" and currently 148...back in 2010 I was in my best shape...115 lbs walked 5 miles a day...then my best friend died...my mom...I gave up walking...didn't care about anything...cried a river
lost a friend, emotionally due to her jealous of our friendship husband (drunk bstrd)...from 2010 till 2013 went from 115 to 160..
I have accepted my mom passing and now am at peace ....been a tough year...sold our house in 6/13...moved to the mountains, built a 3 car garage with 2 bedroom apt above (currently living in)..building the main house....when we first moved, we were living in our 35' travel trailer,,,hubby had a right hip replacement...got MRSA. ..second surgery to clean it out..
6 weeks on IV antibiotics (via me) then 6 months of oral antibiotics.....
Now to current times...we are living in the apt above the garage...awaiting the appointment for the left hip replacement...atleast we are in a tolerable living situation..

sorry for the long post

I did throw out my monteray jack cheese...too yummy and probably going to slow me down in weight loss...I need to find a cheese that will satisfy my cheese love but will not be so lovey that I crave it...lol

For any military here or for those who have lost loved ones supporting our wonderful USA...my thoughts, prayers and go out to you...thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

I'd be very very careful with the lemon juice because it does have carbs:

Fresh squeezed: 1 fl. oz = 2 T = 2.6 carbs
Bottled: 1 fl. oz = 2 T = 1.9 carbs

If you can't drink your water straight, I use Crystal Light individual packs -- I think they're called On the Go? whatever. They are awfully sweet to me, so instead of the 1 pk per 16oz, I do 1 pk per 32 oz of water. Yeah they're chuck full of lovely chemicals... but no carbs and no kcals at least the ones I buy.

Insulin resistance

Good morning everyone. Jo you've done incredible, I hope I can achieve the success you've had.

I do think I am insulin resistant. My doctors have always put me on a low fat, low calorie diet and an exercise program...to which I have always failed at. It doesn't work that way for me. I realize that low carb is the way to go and will also need to be for life. Won't be easy.

The biggest joys in my life are my husband, children and my four beautiful, precious grandchildren. I take care of the two youngest while their parents work, both a reward and challenge.

I will keep looking for my 72 book. We moved a year ago and I am still not organized, so thinking its here somewhere!

OK I am fed up of yo-yoing weight loss. Need to get serious and get to my goal weight once and for all. I tried 72 Atkins a while back and lost the 5 lbs that I had gained over the holidays, then slacked off a bit, but maintained until this week-end. Last week I was sick with a cold and had tea with honey, and cookies my granddaughter made. Baptism yesterday. Today re-started Atkins 72, just bacon this morning, coffee with 15% whipping cream, I know it should be 35% but was blind as a bat without my glasses. Will have 2 eggs with mayo for lunch and some kind of meat grilled for supper. Will whip up some cream for dessert and snacks to up my fat and calories. Will also limit my cheese intake as I can overdo on this.

Will try, NO will do this for at least two weeks and then eventually will add some lettuce with lunch and suppers after that. I believe this is the way Mthrgoose and Jo eat. If they had such success, Congratulations!! Why would it not work for me. Will give you progress

New Kid on the Block

Hi Everyone!

I've been LCing since the beginning of February and I've seen about 8 lbs in weight loss-almost all of that in the past 2 weeks. I just started induction 2 weeks ago to the day and lost 6.6lbs in that time. I started at 231.3 and now I'm at 224.7. I weigh myself every single day. I use ketostix every single morning. I track my carbs every single day as well.

When I first started LCing I was just limiting my carb intake and trying to be mindful of breads, pastas and rice. I didn't limit veggies at all and tried all kinds of "low carb" alternatives. After reading a bunch of posts on here I realized I was doing it all wrong and I needed to take a different approach to this and do the induction properly. I did not ever read Atkins either(I know I probably should).

Anyway, with that being my background info, I have a few questions from you guys that have been doing this forever and have all the answers!!!

Normal Daily Meals:

Breakfast-2 egg omelet with 1 mushroom and half a green onion(0.5 carbs for mush and onion), 0.3 oz of cheese on top(mine says no carbs in it) made with 1-2 tbsp of butter and 2 pieces of bacon(says 1 carb per 2 pieces).
Snack-protein shake(1 carb) made with almond milk.
Lunch-2 cups of romaine lettuce(1.5 carbs) with 2 tbsp of caeser dressing(mine says no carbs and it is high in fat), 1 5-8oz piece of chicken breast with regular mayo and parm cheese on top(mine says no carbs) OR one can of tuna(no carbs).
Snack-2 hard boiled eggs made into egg salad with regular mayo.
Dinner-1 5-8oz piece of meat(beef, chicken, pork)-usually cooked in butter(sometimes bbqd), with spices. 1 cup of veggie-brussels sprouts, asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli.(all say between 2.3-3.8 grams of carbs).

I drink about 8-12 8oz glasses of water per day.

My questions are:

Am I doing this right?!?!?

Should I really be cutting out the lettuce and cup of veggie?

I have seen a fluctuation on the scale on a couple of days in the past two weeks. Both days was after working REALLY HARD in my yard(installing sod, building retaining wall, using very heavy equipment, etc.). Will working out very hard like that cause problems for weight loss on induction/atkins?

Is there anything else anyone can recommend that I can do with my diet to help this along. I'm crazy impatient and I feel like I should be seeing movement on the scale on a somewhat regular basis as I have a bit of weight to lose.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you so much!

FINALLY!! I've been wavering between 228-230 for 2 weeks now, and finally I've dropped to 227 for two days in a row! It's so wonderful to be losing again. For me, it's great to rejoice when some one posts a loss... Encouraging for all of us. And I'm rejoicing with all you who have lost recently!! But I am seeing that what is so tremendously helpful to me is the encouragement in the "dry spells," when the weight just won't come off for some reason. Thanks from the bottom of my heart to all who posted encouragement, or suggestions, or just sympathetically listened to me whine! That's what helped me get through this. And while I'm not typically a talker, I will make the effort to do more, so I can be there for you too!

I am pretty sure everything looks good..just make sure you use full fat products..I would probably go a little lighter on the veggies during the first 2 weeks.

Today's menu for me:
B - 3 deviled eggs
S- 1 slice of chedder cheese
L- salad(lettuce from my garden) with leftover steak, black olives, sprinkle of shredded chedder and ranch dressing
D- ribs with a side salad

I am feeling so much better than yesterday...induction flu yesterday

I will watch the lemon in the water....I have been doing iced tea and I too do the crystal light in 32 oz of water...just gives it just enough taste...will continue with that as I am choking down the water with my legs kicking

what are your thoughts on: turkey bacon? turkey pepperoni? Stevia for a sweetener?

Oh, I also have a great tip for those who hate when their ice melts in your drink and it gets watered down....like when I make my sun tea...pour some of it in ice trays and freeze...then you will have ice tea cubes...

Thanks ejw55. I have full fat everything. All my carbs stay below 10 per day Max. Usually around 4-6 though. I'm just a bit frustrated because I thought I would see more results faster I guess. I'm sticking with it though and ploughing through!!!

I am losing about a pound a day but I only eat eggs and meat. For me cheese is out including cream cheese as I am happy with my progress. I feel if I add cheese in my weight loss will slow down. Every ones body is different.

No veggies right now. I started on March 15 and I plan on sticking to my plan for about a month or 2. I need to get disciplined again. I will eventually add back in veggies. I have been off this WOE for about 4 years.

bmac13-I'm sorry to break the news, but wherever you are getting your carb counts are wrong. Eggs have .5 net carbs, brussell sprouts are about 5-7 net carbs, not sure about parmasean cheese, but it does have some carbs. Most cheese are around 1 net carb per ounce.

Are you doing Atkins '72?? It's pretty much meat, eggs, fat, and a little cheese.

We had our cookout at lunch and it was a nice meat fest. I had the beef brisket, smoked chicken, a couple of chicken wings, and I brought deviled eggs. We had a great time, but I had to leave because they were breaking out the homemade ice cream and I am just not at the point where I can watch.

Cfine I am getting them from the packaging and google. Where else should I be getting them? Even if I add 4 overall carbs for the eggs and the odd time it happens to be Brussels sprouts that still puts me at about 10 per day.

Look at the post "1972 Atkins by the book" you are allowed 2 cups of leafy salad and a few other things...hard cheese only...it might help you!

I am only having about 10 carbs a day and still no scale movement ...sometimes it takes time for the scale to show...judge by the way your clothes fit or measurements.

Ya, I've been looking at that post. I'll cut out the veggies and stick to lettuce. Parm is considered hard cheese though, right?

Hi everyone - just checking in. Congrats to all you losers! Hope to join your club soon. I'm still stuck at 170 (three weeks now, after initially losing 5 lbs water).

I decided to mess around with macros ala NK, and I'm upping my fat a bit, to 75%, or so it says on my m-blank f-blank pal app, which I love because it shows me my percentages for the day. It had been lower than that, so we'll see. Trying to keep calories at ~1400 - 1450. Carbs are around 15 per day, or about 5%, and the rest is protein.

I ordered at Ketonix breath meter, because I'm really ready to be a loser.

Made a fat bomb for the first time on Saturday. Melted 3 tbsp butter, 1 tbsp CO, and added a bit of cocoa powder and equal. Mixed it up and scarfed it down - the whole thing. I really miss chocolate!! Made me nauseous for hours afterwards, though - so I learned my lesson. Maybe next time it will even make it to the freezer.
