No, it wasn't a low carb book, it was a Consumer's Report publication. This is not the only time I've seen this though, magazines and cookbooks don't always indicate the carbs, they just seem to be so focused on fat!

OH! Got it. Yes, unfortunately, our society is all about the fat. The majority of people have no idea that FAT doesn't make you fat.

So happy for you MtherGoos!!!

I had a very unexpected seven hours in the ER with a family member today. Ate some peanuts out of the vending machine and my stomach has hurt since then. I had to put up strawberries when I got home and caved and ate a few of those too. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to deal with food I can't eat. I guess all in all a few peanuts and strawberries is better than ice cream. Tomorrow is a new day. I think I will cook up my pound of uncured turkey bacon that I bought today so that I won't be tempted to eat other things.

MtherGoos.. congratulations. You are my inspiration. I think her name is Bonnie Jean ?? Congrats to you to!! I can not wait til I see 165. whoop hoo you two!! And of course congrats for all the weight loss out there.

I read through six pages, and my eyes are now blurry. l ol. What to eat at a mexican rest. I think I read it on here. I forget what it is called. It has steak, or chicken and shrimp. also onions and green peppers. I use to eat the guacamole also. That was a few yrs ago while I was in maintenance ... love Mexican food. oh my goodness. Anyway. I had more questions but forgot them by time I got to here. Again, congrats all of you.

back to say my Atkins book came in. Its hard cover too. I am impressed. Now to find time to read it between crocheting, and reading another book. lo l.

MG - congrats on your weight loss, you look so fabulous and THIN. I always used to wear flowy skirts like the one in the pic. I don't dare wear them now, LOL.

And cfine, I know what you mean about non atkins food staring you in the face. Both my teenagers had bake sale fundraisers this past week, and I had to make brownies on two different nights. OMG I freakin miss brownies. But I only had a couple of pea-sized brownie cheats each night, so I have to consider that a success in my book, because it's a FIRST.

My ketosis question is this: when the sticks, or meters, or whatever you're using to measure, show a higher number after a high fat meal, how do you know you're not just burning the fat from the meal, and not body fat? I mean, if you're in ketosis and just burning "meal fat", what's the big whoop? Or maybe that's what happens during a stall? How does the body decide which fat to burn?

Or maybe I just need to do some more reading, LOL.

1/2 the person you were

Congrats MtherGoos Aren't you happy you started when you did?
I thought the food porn threads were all induction friendly?
I don't know whether I should acutally set a target weight for myself, would prefer to set a % of bodyfat as I'm in the gym fairly often.
At 6'3" most of the charts say/recommend 199 lbs, geez I would look like a stick
Have a great Saturday folks. Our storm still haven't arrived so hopefully they hold off until after I get out with a friend of mine.

I'm sitting here this Sat morning and happy to have had a very successful low carb week.
I have a cook out to go to, I was asked to bring dessert I always brought dessert. This will be a test for me. I was also reviewing my food journal and my calories are from 1400 -1800 , is the 1800 too high? I won't weight myself until June 1, I was doing a daily weight in but that is just not for me , my clothes feel better and I'm not hungry. Have a nice week end everyone.

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to know for the people on here that do watch or count their calories do they find that it helps with weight loss having a set calorie level. I was just wondering because from since I got serious about this woe I find that I can eat a lot more based on the type of meat I'm eating and also my hunger level. For an example I could eat a lot more ribs than I can chicken or turkey breast does anybody else notice this with themselves.

Thanks everyone! Where's Jo this morning? She's always on before I am.

Bonny, I miss you, but hope you're having fun with your cousin.

PaleoGuy, I wouldn't worry about the charts, they never seem to take body composition into account! Hope you get your nice weather today!

New slim, we don't have to worry about counting calories, but calories do count. So of course you'll lose quicker eating 1500 calories per day then 2000 calories. But not feeling deprived helps us to stay on plan too. Eat when you're hungry and stop when you're not. If your weight loss stalls, then you may have to look at cutting calories, but I wouldn't worry about it until then.

Weezer, I would have the same advice for you. If you can eat 1800 calories and still lose, that's great. If not, then you can lower them a little. Keep them where they're at until your next weigh in, and then decide if it's working for you or not.

Esquela, I don't use the sticks, so I can't help you there. I measure blood ketones and I do always test first thing in the morning so I know that I'm testing in a fasted state and my results will be true results, and not a result of the food I ate.

Vessel, enjoy the book. Is it the 72 version? I've never seen that version in a hardback! That's awesome

MG, do you think the blood meter has been significantly helpful to you? I wonder the same thing that was posed earlier...what if I'm eating too many calories? I know I'm only eating 1500, which seems like a reasonable level, but I'm not losing on it. Maybe my body is so screwed up from so many years of yo-yo dieting that even that is not putting me in ketosis?

Waffles--I had one this morning! I took the Oopsie recipe, substituting mayo for the cream cheese so it would be induction friendly, and added 1T melted butter. It made a great waffle!

Better, I don't know that the meter has necessarily helped me, it's just more for my peace of mind and I like seeing those numbers. I definitely don't think it's "necessary". I would have lost the same with or without it. I honestly think it will be useful as I move into maintenance. I can add different things back in one at a time and I will know by my meter if I'm knocked out of ketosis by anything.

I've never counted calories while following a low carb plan. That's just my personal choice though. I know the foods I need to eat in order to lose and as long as I stick with them everything works fine.

Congrats MtherGoos for reaching your ultimate goal!!!!!!!! I sure hope to be like you someday!!!!

By the way, I like to drink a cup of Almond milk now and then. It does have the calcium I need, and the carbs are so low

I also count my calories and try to keep them under 1600 a day.

Good Saturday Evening Everybody!!

HUGE to all those that had losses today! For those that didn't, remember the scales are EVIL!!

MtherGoos -- Holy HANNAH -- HUGEST to you, MG!! I'm doing the happy-happy dance for you ----->

Thank you for your post to my query about how you plan to maintain. I too am very nervous about this part of the journey!

But I think I seriously know (NOT jinxing myself, NOT jinxing myself ) how many daily kcals and carbs I can have w/o gaining/losing weight since I haven't gained/lost anything in 10 days. (Less than 1400 kcals and Less than 14 carbs). I started this journey at 800 kcals and 6 carbs daily... I am so carb-sensitive!

Hey MG, newslimsexy said you aughta get yourself something nice for such a huge accomplishment -- I agree 100%...

Thanks for noticing I hadn't made an appearence earlier, I was way busy getting ready for all the kiddos doing their HS graduations today -- wow I can't believe how grown up they all are (I had them as Middle Schoolers...)

ejw55 -- Ellen, your chicken salad sounds yummy! :yum:

Tweaker -- I can't find the Silk Almond Coconut Blend Unsweetened at my Wally world either... but they are building us an Albertson's. Weeee hoooo now we have 2 grocery stores in town.

esquala -- I know what you mean about having to handle food you can't eat. I had to bake a celebration cake for one of my classes and I had the DH watch me like a hawk so I wouldn't lick the bowl while making the cake or frosting it. It worked like a charm!!

I wouldn't do those keto-stix readings, first off they are so unreliabe and secondly, isn't the scale evil enough? I don't need an extra stressor. If you're eating clean (with no cheats) you will lose the weight. It's as easy as that.

weezer -- You only have to count carbs, kcals are secondary. I count kcals because I wanted: 1) to lose the weight quicker if I had lower kcals, 2) I have portion control issues so I could sit and eat all day long on no carb foods but not if I count kcals and most importantly 3) I want to know how many kcals and carbs I can have a day while I am maintaining my weight loss which is the ultimate goal in my LC WOE journey.

You all have a wonderful rest of the day and keep being LOSERS!!

After trying the Silk Almond Milk then the Silk Almond/Coconut Blend, I have found the Silk Coconut Milk much closer in taste to actual milk. The flavour is very mild. It seems I don't really care for the almond flavouring in the other too. Unless you really love the taste of almonds in your milk, I would go with the 100% unsweetened Coconut! Enjoy!

I made it thru day 3!! It's the first time since January that I've been able to stay focused for more than a day or two. Of course, I've been very grumpy, but I didn't give in to the temptation to self medicate my mood with ice cream. I just keep thinking that you ladies(and gentleman) can do this so can I. You all are such am inspiration and the reason I keep coming back for support.
Menu for today:8 slices of turkey bacon cooked in CO
Two scrambled eggs w/butter
Two hard boiled eggs w/mayo
One smallish hamburger patty, three organic uncured hot dogs
One mozzarella stick, SF jello

Comes out to 2.5 net carbs, 87g protein, 1400 calories-for anyone who likes numbers like me.

I was thinking how far I still need to go... ugh. Yes. Mthg, 72. it is so cool.

anyhoo. My son cooked some steak tonight for me in a champagne butter sauce he made himself(hisself) I looked up the carb count for one oz of champagne. It was only .83. I say who o hooo. I tasted a little piece. Very juicy and tender. That will be my three o'clock feeding. Counting calories, I don't. That is just me. I am losing as long as I stay away from too much sweet n low. Going to go to the store and find me some Tab!! OH and the book says ... now I read it.. two teaspoons of heavy cream.. I thought two tablespoons of heavy cream. Oh shoot. it was soooo good. Forgot to say I also have to stay away from too many pork rinds. I love them all. They have this one kind that is just the rind of the pork. Omg.. along with the puffy ones.

hate to bother you but can you give me the nutrition numbers from the coconut one? Is it low carb? How bout sugar content and calories. I think the almond milk I have is only 35 calories ...not that I count calls. I think i would like the taste of the coconut one better. thanks for looking for me. I would post the facts of the almond milk if I could get up off the couch.

It's Sunday! 25 May 2014

Good Sunday Morning Everybody!!

HUGE to all those that had losses today! For those that didn't, remember the scales are EVIL!!

Bonny -- Stop rubbing it in -- we get IT!! You have all the Silk flavors there in Canada and we don't!! j/k Okay, so I'm jealous!! But I am still trying to find the Almond/Coconut Blend Unsweetened or the Coconut.

cfine -- I thought you were doing A '72? I don't count NET carbs because I metabolize all carbs the same -- a carb is a carb is a carb.

Perserverence and determination will get you through this, sometimes it's one minute, one hour at a time... but you can do this if you really want it -- MG and I are living proof of that!!

Wishing you heartfelt success as you venture onward in your LC WOE journey!!

vessel -- Don't be overly concerned about your champagne butter sauce, at least it wasn't some sickly sweet sauce loaded with sugar!! OMG do they even make TAB? You're talking about the dt. soda right? Holy HANNAH, I haven't seen that in decades... The only way I eat pork rinds is if my DH measures them out for me (2-3 oz) every other day or so and then he hides them or I go way overboard (I've got portion control issues )

You all have a wonderful day and keep being LOSERS!!

I'll probably pop in later in the day!! See ya!!
