Belle: In the beginning I do eat a lot of SF jello. But after week two no more. So wean off of sweets is easier than cold turkey.

I ended up having the sf jello. I seem to need the crutch right now. Once I graduate to more carbs I can try to wean off. good idea Kemp

Belle: Good plan, stick to it. Just use it now. The biggest fish to fry is getting into deep ketosis and that craving will start to disappear. The first 2 weeks are tough. Eat the jello and slowly stop them. Good job and it will happen.

This 53 year old brain is slowly realizing that fat is my friend. I have figured out that in the past I have overate protein and that is the reason I was not losing.
I lost 3# the first week, but it has been a slow learning experience as we'll as the 3 decades of yo yo dieting has totally ruined my metabolism.
I am definitely doing at least another week of induction. I read about bulletproof coffee and am going to try having that for breakfast tomorrow to cut back on protein and jump start my day.
I am never in ketosis first thing in morning. Always moderate by end of day. Is that normal??
Please keep posting , I get so much inspiration from everyone!!

lase - post a sample daily eating and we'll take a look. I am always in ketosis - dark purple and then by 3pm even darker. I found the more fat I eat, the better I get into ketosis.

I thought you were vacationing in London

Your fat and carbs look great! My only suggestion is the protein. It looks like you are at 124-125grams of protein which is double what it should be for your weight. If the body has to much protein it will start storing it as fat and will take you out of ketosis. I would try to minimize your protein intake down by half to 60-65grams per day.

I also take a serving of miralax daily to prevent constipation. I have diverticulosis and the #1 thing I have to avoid is constipation. I also take sugar free vitamins. I am weaning off of Effexor .

Effexor will definitely slow weight loss. All Anti-D's do. If you can get in more leafy greens and maybe take some magnesium - that will help with the constipation. I understand about taking the miralax though, you need it, you need it.

Hi All --

I hope I can join your 72 group. I ordered the book and it will get here by Thursday.

I've been doing this for a week just on what's been listed and Cheryl's post on her dr's zero carb diet and have to say, I think it's working!

I haven't weighed and won't for awhile -- I'm going by my clothes at the moment -- tight size 14 and 16's and 5'7" and mid-fifties when weight loss is a totally different story. However, I think this is working pretty fast. DH is noticing right away. I'm hoping to get down to size 6 or 8 which I think is about 50 lbs and it feels far away. I have come to conclusion that Atkins the old school way is the only way to do this without torture.

What does everyone think of the Atkins Fat Fast? I tried it for one day yesterday and I think I was a bit too hungry but I think it worked. I may not do it again unless I think I'm not losing. Cutting out cream cheese, a lot of cheese and cream is really helping push the weight loss. I do love pb though -- hard to give up.

Hope to talk to you all soon!

I agree maggie PB is my favorite and very hard to give up. I did it but still really want pb! The fat fast does help stir things up to help push through a stall. Any fast will do that, but it may take a day or two to notice the results.

Give it a couple days with the lower protein and you should kick into high ketosis.

Missy: Are fat bombs worth it? I am only getting about 130 grams of fat a day compared to 180 or so protein. I could add a fat bomb to up the fat, but scared the nut butter will stall me. what do you think?

Lase -- I'm same -- I'm doing less protein and more fat for the first time, and also less veggies -- doing the '72 induction which for me is one to two cups of iceberg lettuce per day tops. I'm definitely losing and I wasn't before like this on low carb, even when I was younger. The fat is making all of the difference. I'm not hungry and I'm eating less with more fat.

I love the bulletproof coffee and replacing the hwc with the butter and co in my coffee in the morning with a bit of sweetener.

What's a fat bomb, Kemp?

Maggie

Depends on the fat bombs you use. I won't use any cream cheese as to much will cause a stall. Cream cheese is the one ingredient not on the 72 induction list because of this. Also tuna is high in fat but it will stall me as well. If I need to increase my fat ratio, I make a diet rootbeer float using three tbs HWC, or coffee and hwc. Kraft mayo also works to increase fat. So anything I can make with hwc or mayo that is what I do.

But honestly kemp you are losing so great, it seems what you are doing works. I wouldn't mess with perfection.

Maggie - fat bombs are used to up your fat or sometimes for a day on a fat fast. You can google fat bombs or fat fast and see the different kinds.

Missydee: Thanks for the tip. The last ones I made were with almond butter, coconut oil, stevia and coca poweder. About 1.5 carbs per piece if I remember right. Just going to stick with what I am doing. The protein is more important to me because I am trying to build muscle mass.

Missy, I read your post about the miracle noodles. I love them now that I figured out how to make them. I rinse, boil, rinse and fry in oil. Hopefully that gets rid of the bad stuff they are preserved in.

Hi Missy, Lase and all --

Well, I've been doing pretty much '72 induction. First week, good loss - didn't weigh but clothes loose so I think anywhere between 7 and 10. However, 2nd week, I did a couple of spoons of pb (sugar free) and a couple of zero carb cocktails -- and it's slowed some - darn.

Anyways-- here are my basic meals:

B -- ham sandwich on 2 rev. rolls that I make with mayo -- not cream cheese, so the ingredients are just eggs, mayo and a dash of cream of tartar and stevia -- all legal I think. Bullet proof coffee-- I'm skipping a lot of hwc right now.

L -- 1 cup of romaine or iceberg, 1 or two baked chicken thighs or one chick breast, mayo and hot sauce dressing. Sometimes a quick dessert of a small piece of choco delight -- just coconut oil, butter, cocoa powder and stevia made into chocoate bark. I only have a small piece or two.

Dinner -- chopped chicken, ham or ground beef, sprinkle blue cheese on it -- add hot sauce and mayo. handful of lettuce. Maybe another cup of bullet proof coffee for dessert.

Sometimes I have 3 eggs with 3 turkey bacon slices, mixed and sprinkled with 3 T of parm cheese for breakfast along with a cup of bullet proof coffee and I'm filled up until 2 pm at least. Have a small lunch.

Hi everyone! I have the 72 book and I and was rereading it and have just 2 questions:

1. I do use keto sticks, but I guess I missed, or forgot, that he says to use them once a day, same time each day - and that they will usually be darkest in the evening. I had always been using them in the morning, and he is right...they are darker at night! Anyone know what this is?

2. I like to use my 4 tsp HWC in my scrambled eggs. So I have been drinking my coffee black. But, it just dawned on me - I can have creamy bullet proof coffee no problem, right? Win/win!

This may be obvious, but I tend to over think things when it comes to this WOL sometimes! Thanks for any feedback

Hi Junebug, with the ketosticks, Atkins said for the first day test every hour throughout the day to find out when it is the darkest color. That will be the time you should test everyday. The reason for this each of our bodies have their own time system for getting rid of things. If yours is darkest at night, always test then. Try to make it the same time at night as well.

In 72' you are limited to the amount of hwc. But it does not stall me so I will go over most days. I don't think there is any issue with using it in your eggs and having the coffee as long as you know it doesn't stall. That's the whole point of how Atkins set up this woe - for us to be able to determine what foods cause us to stall or gain and which we can continue eating.

I totally agree! I'm old enough to remember being on the Atkins 72 when it first came out. It worked like magic! Then my life took different paths. Many years later the diet morphed into something almost unrecognizable from the original. I have tried the new ones over and over, but what has happened is that I will lose the water weight and then stall. I'm now devoted to Atkins 72, and just ordered the book again. Yay!!

Hello all.
May I join you ? I am a long time Atkins believer and lost many lbs way back in 2004. Slowly it almost all crept back up on me so here I am. I have always loved Atkins 72 because that is what I started with. Found this website and the book in a thrift store and followed it by the book.
I started again Jan 6. so on my week 1 weigh in was totally dismayed that I only lost 1 lb. Looking back I know exactly why. I have been eating way to many vegetables. I have fresh Tomatoes,Zucchini,Broccoli,Cauliflower and Cabbage so went to town, I hate throwing good food away. Since I don't have any neighbors, cant even give it away. I have frozen a lot and I am sticking to 72 strictly. I am happy that this thread is going. Hope to hear from you and maybe some new friends.
MtherGoos, seems we are Neighbors, where are you ?

Hi Monika! I'm not far from you, I'm in Havasu. How funny! Welcome to the boards and hope you post often! If you come over to the Induction section, we do a monthly challenge, so jump right in and join us.

You definitely have to watch the veggies. Atkins 72 only allows for 2 cups of lettuce each day during induction. Then you can slowly add them back in to find what you can tolerate.
