Just wanted to share that I saw a whoosh of 3 llbs as of this morning, which is day 12 of induction. That makes a grand total of 10 llbs from the day I began. Of course some of that is water, but not all. It took a little while to see the results, but they are there.

So Vanilla - yes it does work...even for us too!

Missydee: Slow and steady wins the race. I hope you have a whoosh soon.

Got my work out in. And was down 1.4 today so happy. Sticking to the strict '72. Hope the scale keeps moving.

What importance do you all place on exercise? Do you think it's possible to lose without doing some form of exercise? Certainly some people are able to lose without it, but it must play a role in the weight-loss equation. My feeling is that it must accelerate the loss and boost the metabolism when done consistently.

Personally, my exercise habits fluctuate so much that it's hard to tell what effect it's really having.

I can not do any exercise due to medical issues and I have lost a lot of weight doing 72. Kemp exercises like a maniac and he also loses a lot of weight.

Yup, you're definitely going to get mixed answers on this, because everyone is different. I personally don't exercise, and I've lost a little over 100 pounds in less than 9 months. Kemp does exercise like crazy and he loses very quickly. Everyone is different.

PERSONALLY, I don't find that exercising speeds up my losses on the scale at all. However, it is very good for your overall health, and it tightens and tones and makes you look better. There are others who feel that they have to exercise to lose, so you'll just have to find what works for you.

10poppies: Missy Dee and Mothergoose are both right. There is no evidence that it expedites losses. And you for sure do not need to exercise to lose weight on this plan. I have not seen a study that test exercise while in ketosis. I look at it this way. When I am in ketosis my body only has two fuels to burn the food I give it and fat nothing else. If I only eat 2000 calories a day and burn 5000 calories a day where does my body go to get that fuel. According to atkins my fat stores. If I exercise I lose fast if I don't I lose slow. It is as simple as that for me. You will just have to see for yourself. One thing is for sure when I workout I feel awesome, I tone up quicker and overall feel great. If you are able I strongly suggest exercising some if not for quicker weight loss but for overall health benefits.

I cheated this weekend. I fell out of ketosis. This morning I was back in ketosis, so when I ran four miles today what do you think my body was burning for fuel during that 800 calorie burn????? So the whole time I am running I am thinking burn up that fat body, that is all you got!!!!

Overall no you definitely do not need to work out to lose on this WOE. I do and I lose quicker, best of luck to you . Either way if you can please do exercise for just the health benefits alone. You will notice a difference in your look and how you feel.

Gonna Try!

So I am planning on starting the '72 plan in the morning but can't really think how to eat zero carbs? Seems like that would be meat only that has 0 carbs. I have read all the other Atkins books but unfortunately not this one. Do you still eat the salad every day? I bought some atkins bars...I LOVE sweets and can't think of not having something sweet! I can eat sf jello but I hate eating the aspartame I really need a jump start though and am thinking Atkins 72 may be it

Nurse: Bars are a big no no on '72. Just do one week of straight '72 induction, get into ketosis and then add bars in after. I never eat bars they stall me big time. But they may not stall you. I have a huge sweet tooth and it is hard at first but once I get through the first two weeks I no longer miss them....MUCH! I just remember how they taste!!!! I also remember how bad I felt 32 days ago and how I was 23 pounds heavier and got winded getting off the couch. Now I am doing great, feel great etc. '72 is a great plan. I do it hardcore, except I take casein every night do to my workout schedule and I want the overnight metabolism boost. Best of luck.

Agree with what kemp said.. The atkins products stall a lot of people even though they are not supposed to and Atkins website people will DENY DENY DENY that they stall anyone. If you have a really sweet tooth after induction you can look up Linda Sue's website and get some really awesome recipes that are on plan.

During induction you can have two one cup salads made of leafy greens with celery; or cucumber and radishes; or a pickle; and green olives. I make a lot of quiches when on induction and boiled eggs plus meats of course.

I hope you try it. Once you get past the first week usually by the 4th day the sugary cravings and munchies starts weaning down to nothing.

Sounds like I need to pack the bars away for a while!

Getting started in the morning...Praying for determination to stick with it.
I will be looking up some quiche recipes to have on hand for quick breakfasts.

Thanks so much for the tips and advice!

Nurse: That is the best plan. As atkins says stock the pantry for success! He also says the first two weeks are not easy, but worth it. By the end of week two you will notice how your energy is back and you will weigh less, guaranteed!!! Unless you have a lot of metabolic resistance or other medical problem that does not allow you to lose weight. But those are rare. Good Luck and ask any questions we will be happy help.

Kemp, LOVE your new Avi!! So cute!

Welcome Nurse! You've already gotten so much great advice! I just wanted to add that you should be sure to EAT during these first 2 weeks. Don't worry about calories, just eat when you're hungry. Have plenty of meat, eggs, and cheese on hand and eat when you're feeling hungry or have a craving. I know it makes a big difference for me when I spend my day off prepping for the week, so be sure to plan ahead and have plenty of low carb options on hand.

Post often! When you're feeling like you want to quit, come here to read and post. It really helps to keep your head in the game!

Well, day one started out with bacon and 2 boiled eggs. This post has been so infomative and great. I took the time to start at the beginning and read through. So much info! I am excited to get started. I was going to start today and breakfast was right but am so used to more liberal carbs and messed up at lunch. So I am getting my foods ready for tomorrow so I won't grab something without thinking. I have to say I am really excited to try 72. I am very metabolic resistant...the last time my physician drew a insulin count of me, I was more than double what the number should be. I am so against going on more medications such as metformin and know if I can do this right I can get my body back on track. Also I am going through the change and it seems pounds are stuck which i am also hoping 72 will cause them to start dropping.
I am determined to change my future!
I appreciate all the support and help.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend

Nurse: I know you can do it!!!!!!!!! If you fall get back up, dust yourself off and try again. Just so you know in Feb. I lost 40 pounds and put it all back on by Oct. So do not get discouraged. This is not easy. But having everyone here makes it a lot better. Glad you found us. Anything worth doing is usually not easy. Sorry so long winded just want you to succeed.

tbeary I feel the same way about meds. I have been handcuffed to them since a teenager and am slowly getting off many of them. A not so short list of my illnesses if you please: Discoid Lupus at age two then changed to Systemic Lupus at age 12, Rheumatoid Arthritis, PCOS, IBS, MVP, one functioning kidney due to kidney failure at age 12, 2 strokes at age 17, ongoing night seizures; then as an adult hyperthyroidism which turned into hypothyroidism at age 35, pre-diabetic at age 35, two more strokes in 2010; as well as a few other issues. I was taking 30+ pills a day, down to 22 and hopefully will be getting off more as I go forward with this woe.

Luckily I found a very good physician (not my primary) in 2011. It took him two years of treating me to finally suggest this woe and referral to a natural nutritionist. He said it is the diet he is on but doesn't generally tell patients about it due to all the medical liabilities, but made an exception with me as he firmly believes it will help my illnesses. AND it has-most definitely. Now I am going to be searching for a primary physician preferably a DO that also believes in this woe.

Thanks 10.

It has really been wonderful! I think back before October 5th how I was and how I am now. It is just so amazing! Before this woe I was eating once a day at supper forcing myself to eat because I had absolutely no appetite. I would eat 500-800cals a day mostly from high carb foods - mashed potatoes, pasta, rice. And I was gaining at least 3 lbs a month.

Now I have a much better appetite, eat more food, AND I am losing weight and getting healthier. Can't ask for more than that!

Atkins 72 doesn't say 10 carbs.

Atkins 72 Induction is basically -0-. Most leafy greens have zero carbs, like romaine (depending on the brand) has -0-. And eggs have .34carbs. So you would have to eat a lot of eggs for it to amount to anything.

After Induction you add back in 5-8carbs (total, not net) per day for the week to determine how the new item will effect you. You ask yourself a few questions and if you are okay with it all, you add in another 5-8 the next week until you find your CCL. However, I would do the same 5-8 for the week only with different foods to see if they cause a gain or not.

Well, I fell but am dusting my self off and starting again. My feet are swollen again and I feel like crap! I'm out of eggs and am heading to store to get few things I need. Be so glad when the junk is gone from the frig!!

Mjgh, I have to say I guess I have been pretty healthy considering that i have been overweight my entire life. The only thing I have been diagnosed with is hypertension...so far! But age is creeping up on me and I feel things starting to break down....like my knees and back and breathing just to name a few. If I went to the doctor and had tests run, I wouldn't be surprised to hear diabetes added to the list. But I don't want that dx and all the things that go along with it such as vision loss and kidney failure etc etc, so I have to figure out a way to be successful with this WOE. It is so crazy that when I eat this way, I feel so much better I would think I wouldn't have such hard time sticking with it!! Aargh!!! I do know I hate to cook and just can't do this without cooking. That is a big hurdle for me...Gotta work on that. I'm glad you are better since eating Atkins way.

It's Saturday and got lots to accomplish today so i better get started

Have a great weekend!!
