The Dream Continues ...

... to lose weight!! Can't seem to lose it no matter what. So, I decided to give the original Atkins '72 a go. I've been low carbing on my own (keeping carbs around 30-50/day) since July. Haven't lost anything, not even an inch. I have since also cut out wheat and don't do Frankenfoods. I will use some of the wonderful recipes around here if it uses real food and ingredients on the list.

I do use the Ketostix as it shows I'm in ketosis and I confess - I like seeing that color. Keeps motivated that something good is happening inside. One nice thing - I won't be plagued by carb withdrawals since I've already been there, done that!

Today is my official first day of Atkins '72. It was interesting to read the book before Splenda or Ranch Dressing. D-Zerta instead of Jell-O, assuming that Jell-O had not yet made sugar free products. Interesting reading. I only wished women patients had made up the bulk of his success stories. Most were men and as we women know, men seem to lose quicker and easier than us! No offense to any men reading this that have just as much trouble as women losing weight.

So, anyway, we'll see where yet another try at this losing weight thing gets me.

The food plan today:

B: BPC, sliced deli turkey meat
L: Salad w/hamburger, cheese, Ranch dressing
D: Probably the same as lunch, but with avocado and maybe some roasted veggies
S: Coffee w/cream, Eggnog shake (eggs, vanilla extract, SF DaVinci Eggnog syrup)

You can do this! I lost 40 pound in 4 months years ago after my second son. If you stick with it the weight falls off!

Oh Michelle, I wish. In all my dieting years (30 and counting), I've never been able to lose more than about 15 lbs. or so. But, I remain ever hopeful! Thank you for the encouragement!

Yesterday was good. Had an eggnog shake when I got home and it held me until we ate dinner. Ended the day at 19 carbs (11 net carbs).

Today's viddles:

B: BPC, cheese stick
L: Salad (g. beef, lettuce, cheese, hb egg, Ranch dressing)
D: Tuna salad (tuna, mayo, hb egg, sf pickle), roasted veggies
S: Blueberry tea w/butter, maybe 1/2 BPC (coffee w/butter), eggnog shake

Thank you, Poppies. I certainly hope so. I'm a bit frustrated as I'm up 1.5 lbs. Not a nice feeling after being by the book, dropping the things I needed to that I hoped would help. I know it could be just a flunctuation, but after lc'ing for a few months now and dropping them carbs even further, I'm a bit . I decided to weigh daily just to see if I can catch what is either a help or a hinderance.

I'm going to reduce the coconut oil in my BPC and see if that's the problem. I hope it's not, because I think it really helps with keeping me satiated.

I'm such a habitual eater, and can change my posted menu after I get home, I think I'll just post my previous days carb counts.

So, yesterdays counts:

Carbs (total): 11
Carbs (net): 7

*Yes, this is with veggies. Apparently I should have had more!

Don't worry, it might be discouraging, but remember you're in this for the long haul. The scale will fluctuate, but eventually it will start trending down. Hang in there, don't give up.

Thank you, Poppies. I love eating this way and love never feeling hungry! Even if I decide to mix it up with JUDDD or 5:2, low carb is how I want to keep on eating.

Today's scale visit saw a 2.5 lb. loss! Go figure. Am now wondering if the coconut oil isn't the problem, but needing to keep my carbs lower than 20. I do not like being a living lab experiment. I know the scale will bounce and I shouldn't weigh daily, but I want - or hope - to see what it is that will work. Of course, I need to begin going past where I've been hovering for the last 2-3 weeks to figure out anything.

I'll either post carb totals and/or menu for the day before.

Yesterday's grub:

B: BPC, Pumpkin Eggnog Shake
L: Roast, Blueberry tea w/butter
D: Roast, salad (lettuce, kale, hb egg, avocado, dressing)
S: Coffee w/butter, cheese sticks

Carbs (total): 11
Carbs (net): 7

What level of 72 did begin with? I ask because Atkins 72 does not do net carbs, and the only veggies we are allowed are 1 cup of lettuce 2x a day. Have you read the 72 book? you should be at biologically zero carbs for at least one week. Then you add carbs in increments of 5-8 grandes per week. Many of us only eat induction levels for longer than one week.

Sorry Vanillalatte, I just looked at another thread, and you do have the book. I hope I did not come accross as critical, I was just concerned that you may not have understood what 72 plan was, then as a result be frustrated.

No problem, LadyN. I'm using total carbs for the count, just posting net as well. The only veggies I've had are what's allowed on the doctor's list.

My frustration comes in that I've cut out carbs, wheat, and sugar, and still my body won't budge. Not just this week, either, over the course of a few months. I am happy that the scale went down and it did again today, another 1 lb. If I keep losing like that, it might be that I'm so carb sensitive that 20 may be too much. I'm doing a kind of semi-fat fast today. I'm still toying with doing JUDDD or 5:2 during the week. I've done LC with JUDDD before, but never Atkins '72. Maybe it'll shake the ol' bod into letting go!

Thanks for checking out for me!

Yesterday's food fare:

B: BPC, Pumpkin Eggnog Shake
L: Roast, cheese sticks (2)
D: Tuna patties, salad (lettuce, kale, hb egg, avocado, Ranch dressing)
S: Coffee w/butter, cream, Eggnog Shake

My shakes are nothing but eggs, vanilla, spices and sf syrup. A T of pure pumpkin for the pumpkin shake.

Carbs (total): 21
Carbs (net): 11

I don't typically post over the weekend, so have a good weekend if I don't!

Well, I was a happy camper on Saturday's dance with the scale. Down another 2 lbs. for a total of 5. I was up only .5 this morning, which really surprised me since I didn't drink as much water as I'd hoped to yesterday.

I didn't total Saturday's carbs, but I feel it was within the limits. Had to just go with my gut for dinner. Breakfast was bacon and eggs, coffee w/cream. Dinner was a taco salad without that to-die-for fried flour tortilla shell. Before, it was keep the salad, just gimme that shell! I tested the next morning and I was still in ketosis.

I'm trying another mini fat-fast today. Friday's was good even though I did have a small salad for dinner. I ended the day with 7 total carbs. I think I'll try this on Mondays and Fridays, ala 5:2.

Yesterday's food totals:

Carbs (total): 10
Carbs (net): 9

Well, the weight is holding steady - three days now. I'm hoping that means it'll break soon and continue to go downward. I didn't end up doing 5:2 on Monday. I did great all day, but was really hungry that night and so I ate, dang it!

Monday's totals:

Carbs (total): 12
Carbs (net): 6

Yesterday's totals:

Carbs (total): 5
Carbs (net): 3

The weight went up 1 lb. Hoping this means another good loss since this is what happened last week. So not encouraging though.

Not sure of my carbs yesterday as I had a coffee at Starbucks. I ordered what SugarFreeSheila orders and it was delish, so I know the barista made it right. I think she orders a venti and I just got the tall. Not sure how many carbs are in it, hopefully it didn't put me over my 20. I forgot to use a stick this morning to see.

Went down .5 lb. I know I should change my siggy since I weigh daily, but I'm not. I'm hoping this little bit of flunctuation means a little whooshie is coming. I think I'm due. Way overdue. So, my siggy will change when I hit a new low.

Yesterday was a good day. Heck, everyday is a good day, actually. I haven't binged, eaten anything not on plan, and feel satisfied all the time. Thank you, fat!

Yesterday:

B: Pumpkin Latte Eggnog BPC (allowed ingredients)
L: Turkey slices w/cheese, Pumpkin Spice tea w/butter
D: BLT Salad with 2T mayo/1T r.s. ketchup
S: Coffee w/butter, cream, Roast, Cheesecake in a Bowl

Carbs (total): 7
Carbs (net): 6

Had a 1.5 lb. loss on Saturday morning. That works out to only another .5 lb. down in my siggy. Looks like maybe ... maybe ... my body is going to lose, go up for some odd reason, then pop back down and below. If I could ever figure out what it does so I can know what it takes to lose steadily.

I kept yesterday a semi - downish day calorie-wise (just under 1000).

Yesterday's food:

B: BPC
L: BPC
D: Salad (lettuce, avocado, hb egg, kale, ranch dressing)
S: Coffee w/cream, Cheesecake in a Bowl, few pecan pieces

Carbs (total): 16

A newbie to our forum asked for a shake recipe that I'd mentioned. I kinda throw things together, so there's no precise measurements.

Here is one:

Pumpkin Eggnog Shake

2-3 raw eggs (4 if I haven't eaten a lot)
1-2 T pure pumpkin
1 T heavy whipping cream
Couple squirts SF Pumpkin Pie Spice, Eggnog syrups
Pinch of pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, and cinnamon
vanilla extract
Sweetener to taste
Ice (I use just enough to chill it)

Blend it all up and drink.

This is also good to add to a Bulletproof Coffee. If I do this, I leave out the Eggnog syrup and use only 1-2 eggs.

1 cup BPC
Pumpkin Shake

While the coffee is making, blend up the shake. I nuke the coffee after it's made to make it hotter or it'll be lukewarm after adding the shake. I use a frother to blend the BPC, then slowly add the shake. Or just add the coffee to the shake and blend it up. It does take a bigger mug to get this all in.

It's really good and satisfying. Holds me for a good four hours or more.

Oh, here's a snack I usually have when I get home. Tastes just like eggnog.

Eggnog Shake

2-3 raw eggs
vanilla extract
sweetener to taste
couple pumps SF vanilla
couple pumps SF eggnog syrup
sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg

Add a little ice just to chill it, blend it up and drink. Can be adjusted to whatever suits your fancy. It's just as good without the eggnog if you don't have that.

Thanks, ladies. I was up - again - today, but I'm hoping it's because my dinner last night was on the sodium-laden side. I studied my nekkid self in the mirror last night before my shower and I think ... think mind you ... that I'm seeing some progress in the mirror. I've had this in the past with JUDDD - no pounds lost, but shape-shifting. I'd rather have the pounds gone. It's a little hard to say "why no, I haven't lost any weight, but I have lost shape."

My days are seeming to move more towards a Fast-5 approach. I have a BPC (pumpkin shake) that keeps full all morning. Then I'll have more coffee or tea, then eat a little something when my hunger pangs become annoying. Like now - and it's almost 1:00.

I'm also think I'm sort of drifting from by-the-book Atkins '72 and more '72ish. My carbs are still under 20, but I'm adding in cream cheese and sour cream. I haven't added the 5-8 carbs per se. I'm good with what I eat and haven't cheated at all since I started this. That said, I'm contemplating have a carb re-feed, just a one meal thing. It's not in my heart to do it, but dang. Three months low carbing and just over 5 lbs. lost is a bit disheartening and maybe my body needs the shake up.

Anyway, here was what I had yesterday:

B: BPC Eggnog Shake
L: Coffee w/cream, deli turkey w/cheese slice
D: Hamburger/sausage/cream cheese stuff (I call it "Magic Meat" ) w/lettuce, kale, sour cream and a little avocado

Snacks were coffee w/butter & cream, Cheesecake in a Bowl, palmfull pecan pieces

I didn't track a thing yesterday. I tend to eat the same things, especially during the week, so I thought I'd give myself a break yesterday. I've been devouring, no pun intended, Gary T's book WWGF - zero carbs.

Yesterday's menu:

B: BPC Eggnog Shake
L: Coffee w/cream, deli turkey w/cheese
D: Magic Meat, tuna patties, hb egg (yeah, lotta protein, I know)
S: Coffee w/cream, Cheesecake in a Bowl, palmful pecans

Thank you Vanilla for the recipes! I will give them a try

What kind of work outs are you guys doing? No one seems to mention working out, just curious if and what you do. I work out 6 days a week sometimes twice a day. Though trying to cut back a little right now and give my body a break.

I'm not a newbie to Atkins, but dont post much, I would like to start though. I think it will help me a lot. You are doing so great!! I wish I had the guts to weigh myself daily too lol.

Thanks again!!

Poppies, the book is excellent at showing a multitude of things. Just reinforcing living low carb and the benefits.

Fitness Kitty, I haven't exercised in quite awhile, despite my weekly determination to get started. I would cut back for sure - from everything out there now, you don't need to work out that much. Unless you just really enjoy doing it!

Weighing daily is an on/off again thing with me. I haven't weighed since Saturday, because frankly, I was *issed when I did. Up 4 lbs.???? I'm getting nowhere fast. I adore eating this way, don't think about food like I used to, etc. I even went to a party the other night and only had what I made (low carb dessert bars) and some cocktail sausages. Passed up every other carb-laden dessert there was. And there were many.

I'm not losing inches, I'm not losing weight.

I. Am. Stumped.

My workouts are pretty sporadic. I do yoga several times a week, and I do a lot of hard work fixing up an old house. It's been a goal this fall to get more workout time in, but so far, have not had any extra time to do it regularly

It's what I'm considering - again. I was doing that before having my hysterectomy last year. It seems after that, the weight just won't come off. I am thinking about doing it now that I'm doing so well as far as eating low carb.

I've tried to take note of any other positives since the frickin frackin weight ain't coming off! I have noticed my skin stays clearer, no heartburn, the (illogical) "fear" of not having food or not being able to eat is gone, and the best part is just not being hungry because everything I eat is so satisfying.

As I've posted, I don't think I'm doing Atkins '72 so much as keeping a check on my carbs. I was a ninny for starting this thread because it'll probably play out - especially if I go back to JUDDD.

A side note. I was reading on another (totally) Atkins board and saw an interesting discussion on eating up to your BMR and adding 200 calories to keep the body from thinking you're withholding food. I was under the impression you should deduct 200 calories from the BMR. I think there's an "eat up to your BMR" thread on here somewhere that might explain things, too. Just found that discussion extremely interesting.

Of course, that'll be pointless if I do JUDDD because of how that's done.

As far as my eating, I'm keeping at 20 carbs or below and staying very satisfied. The inches or weight may not be coming off, but I am happy eating this way.

I can relate to your post about being at a party and not eating any of the usual crap. ( I went to Vegas for 3 days and didn't go off plan, was tempted at a buffet once by the dessert, but forced myself to not do it - didn't want to start over with "carb-flu" and guilt)

This WOE is the only way I can feel somewhat in control of food. Eating carbs puts me in almost a hysterical addiction to consume any carbs around ( and if it's cake, cookies or treats, I'll beat you down to get them!!!!!! - no joke)

my scale isn't moving much either, I'm about ready to throw it out the window to see if it'll move then!!!!

not sure if my body is shape-shifting as you described, but the occasional "nekked" glance in the mirror still causes shudders, so I don't ponder the image much. *shudder*

hang in there...... I'm hangin in too. We'll beat this somehow.....
