Started Atkins 72 and just WOW

Morning all, i started the Atkins 72 in the hopes that this time around i would be able to accomplish my goal which is to be at 145 by October. Read how it is done, got my book (which i have started to read cover to cover) and i must say i am not hungry, i am eating till full and from Sunday till today i have released 3 pounds which is amazing. Only thing i am not sure of is the time i spend at this start level, i know it states 1 week but has anyone gone longer to try to release more? Just wondering others journeys on this path and hoping for some words of wisdom.
thanks so much and 145 here i come.

I've been at induction level for about two months now. I plan to stay there until the weight is mostly gone. I think you can stay safely on induction while you still have weight to lose. Just make sure you take your vitamins and get enough salt.

I've been staying on induction since February 22. I mainly eat just the meat, eggs, and cheese, mayo, and olive oil. Sometimes I'll have a little lettuce, and occasionally an avocado, but I still make sure to keep carbs under 20 total grams.

Morning MtherGoos, thanks so much for your feedback and congrats on the awesome goals achieved. I will continue with my induction and once i reach my desired goal, will start adding the small amounts of carbs to see what is my threshold. i am just doing the eggs, meats, cheese and the small salads. splurged a little last night so no release but no gains either so its all good.
Have a great day!!

No, not at all, but I've never been a veggie eater. BUT, if I'm really feeling like I need something, that's when I'll have some avocado or a little salad. That doesn't happen often though.

MtherGoos was this your first time trying Atkins 72??? Thats incredible. A good friend of mine did the diet 10 years back, lost somewhere around 100+ pounds in 3 months. He'd never dieted (at all). I never seem to have been able to recapture that first incredible success on Atkins 72, but it does seem to work better then anything else regardless.

Oh Heavens no! I've been dieting literally since I was 5. I was doing Atkins back in the 70's with my Mom when I was about 10. Honestly, this is the slowest it's ever been for me, I can usually drop 100 pounds in a matter of months, so this is the slowest I've ever lost. It does get harder as we get older, there's just no way around it.

Hi Natosha. You actually do not need to count calories, weigh food, on Atkins 72. The main bad guy is the carbohydrate as I'm guessing your aware. If it has carbs on the label, it's pretty much off limits for a while at least. Most of the sausages I've seen are pretty loaded with sugars and othr junk. My favorite staple on this diet is the pork chop. Pork is cheap, healthy, lower in calories regardless then steak, again not that calories are a problem.

Cheese is legal just avoid going overboard with it too as it often has trace amounts of carbs. My typical day consists of
3 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon,
Tuna mixed with mayo and relish wrapped in lettuce.
Leftover pork chops with a deep green non carby veggie,

So, dropping over 100 lbs in a matter of a few months is possible? Wow! That just boggles my mind. I know I won't lose that fast, but it's encouraging to know it can be done.

The book says to stay on induction for 2 weeks and then you can slowly up carbs and introduce others - alot of us stay on induction so that we can continue to lose weight fairly quickly

Atkins '72 does induction for 2 weeks, but you can do it longer. Some people never go off induction. I'm pretty close to that normally (less than 25gm of carbs per day and all from green vegies) since my carb tolerance is so low.

How fast you drop depends on a number of things and will vary with the individual. The more overweight you are, the faster you may intially lose. At my top weight of 330, I lost 70 pounds the first 3 months. My last 35 pounds took 3 months. The pounds in between took longer because I was not always consistent since I was still fighting the fact that I can't ever eat potatoes, rice, bread, etc. My carbs have to be green vegies all the way.

10poppies, it is possible, but probably not likely. Most people posting here say it's harder to lose the closer to goal we are, and the older we are. So know it's possible, but don't get discouraged if your loss is slower. Some days you may appear to have gained, so be prepared and know it is not real gain as long as you are staying within the inducation guidelines. And know that you can lose inches without showing loss on the scale. Try to commit for more than two weeks and there will be greater results.

At this point, it doesn't matter how long it takes, as long as that scale keeps trending down instead of up.

I agree. I've always looked at the weight loss as a side benefit with the main benefit being control of my diabetes and getting off all meds. Personally, I think focusing on the scale is a mistake, but that's just me.

Hello! First time poster and about to start the original Atkins. I'm nervous, but excited, too! Am I thinking correctly when my diet will be mostly meats, eggs and fat with a little hard cheese and 2 cups of lettuce mixed in?

I've tried to compare the plans and it seems like the 'new' Atkins allows more veggies on induction and also focuses on the net carb intake (after you deduct the fiber). Does that sound about right?

I think I may miss fruit the most, but I really would like to see the scale move. I've been doing WW and while the pounds are coming off, it's SLOW and I feel hungry all the time!

Anyone care to post a few of your daily menus?

Thanks!

Another question! Am I supposed to watch my fat intake and do things like eat only lean meats and watch the quantity of butter or mayo that I use?

Are pork rinds allowed?

Thank you!

Hi Spesh, Yes, on Atkins 72, the original Atkins, you'll find the induction phase is mostly meat, eggs, and cheese. Yes, pork rinds are allowed.

No, you don't need to watch your fat intake. Go ahead and choose the fattier cuts of meat, and use your oils, butters, and mayo. The only thing you're cutting out right now is Carbs.

Enjoy! This WOE definitely works!!

Spesh,
To start with, just watch the carbs. Keep them under 20 (25?). Don't worry about calories or fats right now. At some point you may have to count calories depending on your age, activity level, etc. but I wouldn't even go there until you hit a stall. I wouldn't even worry about weight loss the first two weeks. Just focus on getting the carbs out of your system. That's huge and the foundation for success on this plan.

Thanks, that is exactly what I will do. It should be pretty easy to keep carbs low since I'll just be eating mostly protein. Any carbs I consume will be in the form of a little HWC in my coffee, maybe a little cheese and some salad dressing for my "one cup of loosely packed lettuce". I will make sure the salad dressing does not have any sugar.

Any other tips?

Hello everyone. I quit pretending to do low carb and finally got serious. Meat and eggs mostly and just let the veggies make their way in on their own. I don't buy veggies. I don't count calories. Weight is coming off just like it's supposed to.
