In general I think Atkins '72 is 'stricter', especially in induction. It did allow some fake sweeteners iirc, but it of course would not know about ones that came about after 1972.

Well there are a lot of factors that cause people trouble such as artificial sweeteners, caffeine, prepared LC products, hidden carbs, prescription medications, thyroid, etc. Some people find they do need to watch their overall calories too esp when they don't have a lot more weight to lose. When it comes to the last 10-15 lbs or so those can be exceptionally difficult. I was reading something before that said that fat tissue may actually be damaged and not able to release its stored fat, and sometimes stored toxins in it can be a problem.

Well i just went through every test in the book... Im 24 I have no thyroid issues.. .i cut down on excercise went from running 30-40 minutes everyother night alternating with 4-6 miles walks and weights.. to nothing and now im low carb and slowly adding in walks most every day and running twice a week... at christmas 2010 i was at 135... (I did atkins in 05 weighing 210lbs lost and maintained 135 for 5 years) In my infinite wisdom i decided to work out harder and go low calorie and raised my carbs to like 60-90 all processed junk well now.. yeah... im here and my body is dumb lol .... I can cut my half and half... i'll just take the plunge... what about crystal light think that should go too? and no caffine so tea is probably out too mostly... hmmm

You can get the complete food list on Page 1 of the thread "Atkins by the Book". But basically induction is meat, seafood, 4 oz hard cheese, less than 2 cups of salads a day, SF Jello w/whipped cream. It's probably best to order the 1972 Atkins book used online for the complete theory and recipes too.

Looking at your menu, the only thing that is not on Induction is the green beans. Those have carbs and the 1972 Atkins Induction is "biolocally zero carbs". This is to get you in ketosis quicker for quicker fat loss and also suppresses the appetite, especially for sugar/carbs. The Induction is for 1 week.

One of the main differences is that there are no "net carbs" on Atkins 72. Carbs are carbs, period. So you end up eating a bit less because you are not subtracting fiber.

Also, there are no rungs. Once you've done the intro period for as long as you feel you need to, you can begin adding things, one at a time and see how you do with them. Dr. A suggested what to add first, but he hadn't yet developed a "ladder" of food types.

Regarding "biologically zero," that wasn't actual zero, but only included the veggies that were SO low that Dr. A figured they didn't really count--basically salad greens and a few other items. You can find the list on the Atkins by the Book above, as the above poster mentioned.

I`m close to goal weight also and it`s really hard to lose at this stage. Doing a regular induction doesn`t work as well for me anymore so I have to go VLC and watch the calories a bit.

Yes, I am at that point too. I have 8 lbs to go and it's really tough it get them off. I'm on the fence about the calories I should be taking in because at my age, I don't want to lose muscle mass. It's a fine line. At least VLC keeps my water weight in check.

The Atkin's 1972 book is a good read; you can get it for a couple $ on Amazon. I've had really great results ordering used books from Goodwill on Amazon, they are always in like new condition.

I was re-reading a section this morning and it talked about going back to induction without the salad, that around 1 in 100 people he needed to do this with. That was more for having trouble starting weight loss though, not if stuck near goal.

There was an interesting statement near the end of Taubes Why We Get Fat that I have been meaning to go back and re-read........

Technically, if you are strictly doing the 1972 Atkins, then he doesn't want you to worry about calories at all. Just eat until satisfied and never go hungry. The reason you can do this is it's zero biological carbs during Induction and very little carbs thereafter. If you don't cut out the veggies except for the small salads during the 1972 Induction, then you are doing a later version of Atkins. That's a different ballgame.

As far as constipation, a gentle laxative is recommended per Dr A. himself.

I would suggest you pick your plan and buy the book . The books are a chockful of information we posters cannot explain as well.

You may not be eating enough FAT, and perhaps a tiny bit too much protein??? Just a thought..
