I too, do my best in weight loss with Dr. Atkin's 1972 diet. I did however loan my book out several years ago and I can't even remember to whom. I noticed there are several book's from the 1972 publication on Amazon.com. So I am planning to purchase one this weekend. This week trying to stay in induction. I can't wait to tie my shoes with out huffing and puffing.

momofmany thank you very much! Now the hard work starts for me. I did not really have trouble losing the weight. I do still have 20 to lose, to reach my first goal. At 60 I don't think I should try to go any lower. I may change my mind if I ever do get down another 20 pounds. Will have to wait and see. I am short. 5'2 if I stretch. My ideal weight is probably around 140. My doctor told me I should stay around 160 or 150. I have been up and down all my life. I remember when I was 12 my mama told a friend she was worried about my weight. The friend told her not to be worried that when I started looking at boys I would drop the extra weight. She was wrong. I have hated me for as long as I care to remember. For thoses that have gotten close to 300 pounds you know what happens when you lose it. Extra skin!!!!!!!!!!!! Gona go to the chop shop as soon as I win the lottery..... I am trying to put a new picture of myself in here. I don't have a scanner hooked up. I have tried sending it off my phone. No luck yet. I can do it. I ant gona give up. |

I found this on LCF. Someone else posted it. I have searched for this list for many years!!
This is the way I lost 17 pounds in 1972. I lost 17 pounds in two weeks!! I am very serious about this. Star It is hard getting started. But it is do-able. Just got to bite the bullet and do it. Carry this around in your mind......NOTHING TASTE AS GOOD AS THIS FEELS! It is true. Gosh it feels good to breathe and put clothes on that you like. I wasted lots of years for a candy bar. Shush a candy bar in your hand and let it melt on your hand. It's know of gross. As gross as one feels when fat is the boss. I don't like bosses. Me boss! Hang tough!!! It Is Do-able! Star I want a ticker....Trying to figure out how to put it here.... TIME TO GET RID OF THE LAST 20
I was fooling myself thinking I wasn't too heavy. I was too scared to even weight myself. Christmas before last was the last time I let anyone take my picture. When I saw that last picture I wanted to find a rock and hide. It would have had to be a huge rock. Time passed and March of 2011 I had finally got huge enough to know if I did not do something I was going to be dead soon. I have a wonderful family. Two grown son's have given me 6 wonderful grand-kids. I have a lot to live for and I was slowly killing myself. I have been married for 41 years to a man that was made in heaven for me to share my life with. I had so much to live for. I have lost and gained so many pounds since I was 12 years old, I have not a clue to the pounds that I have had visit and go away. I am 60 now and I can't play around anymore. I was so heavy, to go to the bathroom was a chore! My heart was almost exploding with doing simple things. Like taking a bath. Taking a bath was about the hardest chore for me. I also was using insulin. The insulin gave me the power to continue to eat. I was injecting myself with it like I had a free pass to FOOD! Eat cake inject insulin. Eat bags of candy, inject insulin. Y'll get the picture I am sure. I am very carb sensitive, very! Today 100 pounds lighter, I feel as if I have been released from fat prison.Today I am a new person. Today I want to live. Today I have fun taking a bath! Today I enjoy putting my clothes on! Today I am alive, and loving living again. Y'll can do it too!!!!Last edited by marylouise; 01-12-2012 at 11:37 AM.. FOR THE LAST TIME
Thank you. You too can do it! It is hard to get started. You know already how hard it is. Ya just have to keep your eye on the prize. And Remember: NOTHING TASTE AS GOOD AS THIN FEELS! Try this. I did it and it helped me. Get a poster board and a bunch of pictures of yourself. Glue them to the board. Then find pictures of yourself that you love. I placed mine in a circle. I went from to my fattest to my best picture. Some members of my family thought I was nuttie. Don't matter what anyone thinks. I put it in the kitchen. It hung from a cabinet near the fridge. Some days I wanted to take it down. I left it on the cabinet staring at me every time I went in the kitchen. And I went in the kitchen a lot:-( I came to dislike that poster board. But, after many month's it became my friend. I am going to keep that large poster board with them pix to remind myself each and every day of my struggle to the top RUNG. Still having 20 to lose I need it everyday to help me reach my goal's. I have more than one goal. My most important goal is to live a healthy long life with my son's, grand-kids and my babe. To become a great-grandma is a goal I have. To feel strong enough to hold my great grand-babies. I have a married grandson. He is the second one born. Married, is hard to wrap my mind around that life changing event. Growing older is fun. Yea it would be nice to be 20 again. But I know if I continue to take care of myself and eat to live and not live to eat I will be blessed with many goals to look forward to. Low carb is the only way I will have a chance to reach my goal of 150. If I don't watch each and every bite of substance I put in my body I will be back to almost 300 in the wink of the eye. That is very true. It's easy for me to start gaining again. I understand one saying the words, For The Last Time. I felt the same way. Losing and gaining all my life I am tired. Tired of counting carbs. Tired of feeling deprived of the foods I love. Tired of cooking and baking all the wonderful foods that we all love to eat. Tired of making banana pudding that I can only stand by and watch others smile and smack their lips from the joy it brings them to eat my goodies. Just plain and simple tired of not being able to eat like a normal person does. I am very carb. sensitive. I smell chocolate and I gain weight. I cook and the fumes from the food cause me to gain weight. I worked for a little while at a major hamburger joint. I was told I would gain weight cooking on the grill. I laughed and keep right on flipping hamburgers. Twenty pounds later I had to quit the job. I believe smelling certain food can cause me to gain weight. Everyone is different. I hope you are able to reach your goal. And never give up. If you fall down, dust yourself off and tarry forward. |

Mary Louise, Thank you for your words of wisdom. We all need motivation from some one who has been there and done that so to speak.
I too am very carb sensitive and have to be really careful or I will gain easily. That's why 72 works for me. I will not add carbs until I lose the final 20 and then I will need help I know. I know that being around food that is not good for you is really hard to withstand. I promptly ate 2 Atkins bars out of three I had so threw the last one away. You would think that after 9 months I would be more in control One great thing, at my last doctor's appt my blood sugar level has been at a normal level so he is taking me off the meds for two months to see if I can maintain my sugar at a normal level. I know this is due to 72 Atkins. However my cholesterol is still 205 with meds. I am hoping with more weight loss and continued exercise I cn an bring this number down. Has anyone been following the news about statins? Now scientists are saying a higher cholesterol level is ok for women??? Any thoughts? MaryLouise we both have 20 lbs to go. It will be hard but we can do it. Then the real challenge comes with maintenance. Sometimes we get too confident that at a low level we can slip here and there. Not true. Hi to everyone on the thread and have a low carb weekend Linda |

Everyone who has posted, please keep coming back. I know that everyone's encouragement really helps especially if we have a slip.
Also I wanted to ask does anyone have a problem with cheese. I find that I can not eat all I want. It really stalls me. I love cheese. Any thoughts? |
