Atkins 72, DANDR, Atkins 02..? Confused.

What is the difference between all of the plans? I was under the impression that Atkins was a universal plan, then I saw there was a forum just for Atkins 72' here, then the book I read was DANDR. And I thought I saw on here that there is an 02' version of Atkins. What gives? Can someone please explain the differences to me? I'm new to Atkins, but definitely not new to low carb. I switched to Atkins a few days ago from the generic 'higher fat, low carb'. I thought it'd be less likely to sabotage myself if I had stricter guidelines of what I can eat and can't eat.

I can give you a thumbnail sketch, although others may be able to answer this with more expertise.

Dr. A's first version of the diet came out in 1972. It's fairly rigid in its first stage, and allows lots of protein and fats, but only salad for a veggie. There are no "net carbs." A carb is simply a carb, without fiber deducted. There is no "carb ladder," that is to say a recommended order in which you add back certain foods. You merely begin to gradually add back carbs, five grams worth per day one week at a time, when you've finished the first stage, but it's your choice which things you add. If you want to read the allowed list, look at the first thread in this topic, 1972 Atkins Plan by the Book.

In later versions, he tweaked things. He included more vegetables in the first stage, called induction, and then specified an order in which you should add back. He introduced "net carbs," or deducting fiber grams from carb grams. He also factored in more commercial low carb products, like Atkins bars and shakes.

Some people, like me, do the retro version because it's less complex and a bit more restricted, and that suits some of us better.

Hope that helps--only a very general look at the differences.

So is there an actual plan called DANDR? Or is that just referring to the new version of his book, Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution? I'm just trying to figure out which plan I am doing. I know it's not 72' cause I eat other veggies besides salad veggies, such as broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, occasionally sweet potato, and I do eat some fruit as well. Or maybe I should just keep it simple and say I am doing Atkins. I think I'm more likely to confuse myself that way.

Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, or DANDR, is the 2002 version of the diet.

And it sounds to me like you are doing Atkins OWL, just as advertised!

Very well put and 100% correct. I do not really like the new version. It's too commercialized for me. The 1972 version is more straight to the point and, in my opinion, effective.

I'm new at this, but I'v been following all the information on Atkins here , and I'm very intrested in doing the fat fast diet in his book. Can any one give me any good advise on this. How long do I stay on it and can I stay on it for a while? Also maybe some different recipies. I do have a hard time losing . I am on HRT which does not help matters.
Thank You for any kinda info you can give me.
