58 days to my daughter's wedding........................... here comes Ms. Skinny (me!)
![]() June was a very busy month - a wedding, three birthdays, two graduations and Father's Day with big parties and food & drink at all of them - me hosting them all. Plus, I also threw a surprise 50th bday party for my hubby and I flew to San Francisco for business and I went to Michigan for 5 days to visit my son and his wife. A great month for sure, though very hectic! Glad to be home and have some consistency now! ![]() I am committed this month - are YOU?

Hello, Divine. I'm in SoCal, too.
I registered for this board years ago, and don't know if I ever posted. I've been low-carbing off and on for years, but in the last year, I took an unplanned "vacation" from watching the carbs and promptly gained back most of the weight I'd lost. I've decided that '72 is the way to go, for me. I've been at it for two weeks and have lost 9 pounds. So I'm with you for the July challenge! |

Verbqueen! Way to go on the 9#!I am in Carlsbad. I lost a lot of weight about 14-15 years ago on 72 Atkins (before Atkins was popular). I kept it off for many years - actually in size 4 clothes, it was divine! A few years ago I went through a trauma, some subsequent health issues and then perimenopause - ughhh. Gained about 55#. I started back on Feb 15 this year. In 30 days I lost 17# Since then, tho, I have played around not being religious to the plan and have only netted a total of 20#. I need to lose 35# more and need to get SERIOUS! I would like to lose 17# again this month... We can do it!! Last edited by DivineHealth; 07-03-2009 at 05:37 PM.. |

I'm in Orange County--Yorba Linda, so not too terribly far from you. I lost 40 pounds on 2002 Atkins, bake in 2003/2004. Alas, I was far from a size 4, but I am 5'10" and would be just plain thrilled to be a size 10! I am a pear/hourglass, and carry my extra weight on my thighs and butt. I have a personal theory that those areas are EXTREMELY difficult for women to get fat off of. I've noticed that "pears" who carry their weight through the middle seem to lose far faster.
I had a gynecological crisis, had to have surgery and Lupron shots for a year, then continuous BCP since then. I found that once I began the BCPs, it's VERY difficult for me to lose anything at all--and as you do when you don't get any results, I ultimately lost all motivation. I just don't think the "new" Atkins, with its playing around with subtracting fiber and its inclusion of bars and shakes and sugar alcohols and such is ever going to work for me again. (But for those lucky ones for whom it does work, go for it!) I've been pretty spare with my '72 so far. I am having about 3 oz of cheese a day, but no cream or artificially sweetened anything at all. Just meat, cheese and 2 cups of salad (and a lot of water and iced green tea). So far, so good. If I get stuck again, I may have to let the cheese go, too. Also, I recall that in the past I lost far better without coffee. So far I haven't given it up, but if I have to... Anyway, I'm happy to join you on this challenging but rewarding path! Now, onward and downward!

Was back up .4 pounds this morning--too much salty stuff yesterday, maybe. I went to a cookout at a friend's house, and they had sausages and hot dogs. Also, we were all asked to bring a side dish. I brought low carb cole slaw-a favorite of mine, but the first time I've had any vegetable but lettuce since going on '72. I suppose that means I went off plan. S'okay, though. Bump in the road.
Today, I'll keep it simple. I plan to start posting menus, too. Keeps me honest. Today, so far: 4 thin slices microwave bacon 1 oz. cheddar 1 cup black coffee I'll add the rest in later. Btw, you do you edit posts on this board? |

Guess that means I can't edit in my other meals later, so I'll wait till the end of the day to post them. I think I'm going to try to up my fat percentage and down my protein a little. Also, gonna try to figure how to update my stats. Sadly, as I mentioned before, I gained back all the weight I originally lost on Atkins. |

Hi Everybody,
I just started the 72 Atkins Induction yesterday. It went pretty well yesterday. I have been doing other lowcarb things and was impressed with things I've read and learned about Atkins. I read the book years ago and tried it, but I gained on it. I've since learned that I didn't give it enough time to start losing. Although the ketostix would turn purple but not a strong purple which I read on a post either on the group or another where I learned that can happen. So this time I am doing the 72 AI and just trust the program. I didn't have too bad of a time yesterday except for the first half of the day I experienced the headache and cloudy thinking. Have that a little bit today, but I think that is because I really had a carby 4th of July. So far I haven't experienced really bad things like I did when I tried it before and hope that is because of my recent lowcarbing on other plans. I am here for support and hopefully to be a support to others. I've learned a lot reading your thread and hope to learn more. It is good to know how/what others experience as we go through this journey together. Last edited by Pattygirl; 07-06-2009 at 10:35 AM.. |

Hi, Patty. I'm new to the group and new to '72 also, although I've had lots of experience with low carbing on regular Atkins and other plans.
I lost half pound I'd put back on yesterday, plus several more ounces, so I can't quite claim 11 pounds of loss, but I'm only ounces away. I am just plain ECSTATIC that this is working. Regular Atkins induction just wasn't doing anything for me. I think 20 carbs is just plain too much for me to lose at a meaningful rate. Anyway, as others have said here, I like the lack of choices and the utter simplicity of this plan. Meat, cheese and salad. How much easier could it be? I found that I could not edit my stats. Apparently, I don't have enough posts? So I just won't worry about that, but those numbers are from 2004 and are not current (alas). But I'm still wondering what you click to edit a post? I often see a typo as soon as I get something posted. Yesterday, I had: B: 5 slices of thin bacon, 1 oz of white cheddar, one cup of black coffee L: a thick tri-tip steak cooking my GFG, a pretty big salad with Ken's Steak-house 1 carb balsamic dressing, iced tea D: two "peeled" KFC chicken breasts (the KFC nearest my house does not yet have the grilled chicken, which if you haven't had it,is GOOD! But I didn't want to go home empty handed so I got original recipe and peeled the crust. That was sad, because I wanted that fatty skin to keep my fats up.) S. 1 oz. cheddar, tea with 1 tsp. heavy cream |

I lost 3 1/2 # in one day... then gained one back yesterday (day two)... stayed the same today. Oh well, a little more than a pound a day is good.
I am going out to a really nice lunch today... will stay low carb (steak or fish and salad), but I may have a glass of vino! Then we are going for massages at 3pm. ![]() ![]() |

Hope those massages were divine, Divine!
![]() I had no loss today--same weight down to the ounce. It seems so strange to me when that happens--that with all that goes in (and out) in 24 hours it can be identical two days in a row. Yesterday, I ate: B: 5 thin slices bacon, 1 oz. cheddar, 1 cup black coffee L: 3 pieces leftover KFC, "peeled" D: orange roughy cooked in butter and olive oil, topped with butter, a couple of chopped macadamia nuts and the juice of half a lemon, salad with Ken's 1 carb dressing S: 1 oz cheddar, 1 T. heavy cream Lots of iced green tea and water The macadamias may have been pushing the plan limits a hair, but roughy is pretty bland and I wanted to give it some flavor. Today I plan to hit the gym. I haven't much lately--energy has been low, but today I think I had a burst! |

OK, I was a longtime LC'er (2002 to 2005) who fell off the wagon (badly) and I want back on. However, this time I want to do Atkins in its purest form. No artificial foods.
I started yesterday but I can't get over this constant nagging hunger. I eat then 30 minutes later I am still hungry. I can't stand it! What I ate today: B- 2 egg omelet with cheese & real bacon bits L - small salad topped with tuna salad S1 - swiss cheese & pepperoni S2 - hard boiled egg with a little mayo Then I went to the gym & worked out for 45 minutes. When I got home at about 3:30, I was starving again so I had a hot dog, then a small piece of swiss cheese & pepperoni. Dinner will be a hamburger patty & small salad with homemade vinegarette. Since tomorrow is Day 3, do you think the hunger will subside? I forget how it was several years ago when I started induction. If I wanted to feel like this I would have gone to Weight Watchers! ![]()

Pi, I think you should eat more fat. I just ate some sauteed chicken breast slices, and I drowned them in melted butter and a shake or two of Frank's Red Hot. I think where some of us may have gone wrong on our previous Atkins journeys was too much protein and too little fat. Fat makes you feel full.
How 'bout have a little more tuna, but put on a big blob of mayo? Or make a deviled or scrambled egg, heavy on the butter. Remember that you are not supposed to be watching calories at this time. You're trying to switch your body into a fat burning metabolism while also ending hunger and cravings. So eat fat to lose fat! |

I did put a blob of butter on my omelette this morning and lots of mayo in the tuna. I'll try adding more tomorrow.
Just finished dinner an hour ago - 2 hamburger patties with cheese & a small salad. Now I'm hungry again! Yikes! I have been exercising both days (45 min cardio yesterday, 30 min cardio today then 30 minutes weights). Don't know if that exacerbates the issue. Hopefully ketosis is around the corner! Thanks for the help. |

Don't worry about eating too much or too often.... after 3 or 4 days it will change and cravings will be gone. The first 3-4 days can be rough because of the carb deprivation. I always eat, eat, eat like crazy the first few days!! But, ONLY allowed foods! On the 4 or 5th day, the energy will kick in and the cravings will be gone, IF we don't cheat ![]() |

Today I did well on the food side - no cheats.
![]() But I had a business cocktail hour social tonight and had a few glasses of wine. Only 8 carbs altogether in my dry white wine... but I do know the body will burn the alcohol before it burns fat so it's best not to drink the vino.... I am not expecting to see a decline on the scale tomorrow... will hold steady I think. But, it was a great time!![]() Have a good night! |

I just wanted to let you know I am moving back to the Metabolism Miracle Plan. I couldn't get through another day of Induction. I think it is great for those of you who can. I thought I could do it for a week, but it is not for me.
I'm sorry to leave y'all, as you are a bunch of great people and I wish you well on your journey.Toodles |
