WELCOME SUSAN!
I definitely had some tugs on my heart strings reading your post. So much of that echoes my own struggles past or present. Fortunately I do have a stable relationship/home life to get me through the weight loss battle. I really commend you for sticking to a weight loss plan even during a break-up. Big hugs to you, and great job so far!

WTG Divine. I knew you'd have that whooshie. It seems like that's your pattern, your body holds on to the water for a while after the fat is gone and then releases it all at once finally. The important thing is sticking to the plan, or at least getting right back on after a slip-up, eh?

I finally got to 229 after almost one month of religious Atkins, plus a little cheat--I fat fasted! Okay, don't tell the diet police, I know that's not Atkins '72, but dang if it didn't budge the scale again.

Now, what I am going to do is take the modified fat fast of 1200 calories, add just 4 ounces of protein per meal weighed on my nice little escali scale, add a tiny amount of greens, radishes, sprouts, and chia, maybe a 3-nut snack here and there. I think that will still qualify as Atkins '72 but with portion control. I will try this until July 4th when we have a big family get-together. I would be so happy if I could wear some clothes that are too tight now.

Have a great on-plan day everyone!

thank you for sharing, susan

I am a binger too. I would rather eat alone. But 72 has really helped me with all of that. And I continue to lose weight. Good luck on your journey.

Hi All,
I too would like to join this group. I am back on 72 again. I let my weight go from 150 all the way to 220 and then I started asking my doc about gastric bypass, or banding. I must have been crazy, so now I am back on Atkins which has always worked for me in the past. I am older than the last time and since I have passed 50 and have to take a variety of meds, I'm thinking my weight loss will be slower. My oldest daughter is getting married next June and I want to wear something smaller than the current size 18. I haven't ever been this heavy, never ever. But I bought a good scale and almost had heart failure when the digital read out said 220.6. Been on induction since Monday and this morning the scale said 210.4, so it's going and I forgot about the processed meats, so I guess I was cheating and I love mozzarella, but I guess it's gotta go. Haven't had any salad, but I was craving it, so reading the threads and seeing that I could have salad...woohoo, that's my next thing. I even had a couple of drinks on Saturday (vodka and diet ginger ale) and while the scale didn't go down, it didn't go up either.

Atkins 72 has always been my salvation. WW drives me nuts, as do all the other diets out there. I need something simple like 72, cause it doesn't allow me to wander.

Hope I'm welcome here. I would like to stick around and share in everyone's successes as well as continue to support those of us that fall off the wagon as I do on occassion

Thanks,
Lisa

Well........... finally, all the big events are done for awhile... thank goodness!

We had my sister's wedding three weeks ago, a party shortly after that, a graduation party this past Thursday, and my hubby's surprise 50th birthday party yesterday.

All were great, but it will be nice to have a little bit of down time.

I am glad to have maintained during this time (up-down-up-down, but no damage)... I need to kick it in gear to get at least 5-7 pounds off in the next 10 days - I am going to Michigan to visit my son and his wife for several days. I want to get into the next size down jeans (I can get into them now but they are really snug).

Have a great day everyone!!

Back to Work today and I was sure hungry this afternoon

Hi All,

Well I was back at work today, and I was starving this afternoon. I was looking in my desk, a bad idea, but I resisted the candy and the cereal and then it was time to go home. Yeah, working from home tomorrow, but need to have a better way for Wed and Thurs cause being that hungry really blows., Well I made it home and had some pork rinds as a snack till my burger was ready. Whew that was really too close for comfort. Throwing out all the naughties on Wed. and the cleaning crew comes and empties my wastebasket early before 9:30 so I should have it all gone by the time I get hungry.

Any suggestions?
Lisa

Hi! I'd like to join in. I've been trying for about 3 weeks. I started with Protein Power, but didn't take the time to figure out my protein needs, so then I thought I'd try DANDR, but I love my caffeine in the AM. So, now I'm doiing Atkins 1972. I have the book and I'm taking the time to read it. I had a minor set back yesterday (gummy bears), but I'm back on today.

I lost 80 pounds 5 years ago, but gained 40 back. I really want to make this work, but I think it will be a lot slower this time, but I can accept that.

In the past 3 weeks I've lost a total of 7 pounds. I'd like to lose 8 more by June 30th. That will be 15 pounds in 5 weeks.

So many suggestions!

I make up a frittata every Sunday for my hubby to take to work for breaksfast. I cut it into wedges and put in plastic baggies.

Take a little 6-pak cooler to work with lots of cold cuts. We buy ham, turkey, salami, and several cheeses. Hubby rolls up a piece of meat with a piece of cheese and snacks on them all day long.

Hardboiled eggs.... I boil up 15 every weekend... easy to grab and take to work.

Deviled eggs.... very good snacks.

Good luck!

That's a doable goal...... IF you do what we all here have learned: It works only when we're religious about it! And "trying" doesn't cut it.... we have to just do it!

I certainly have not perfected that religiousness yet.....

WOW such good ideas, now I just need the recipe for the frittata. Deviled eggs, hmm, I love deviled eggs. Too cool.

I was down to 209.4 two days ago, but this morning, up to 211.4. Drank a liter of diet soda yesterday, so today, no soda, no cheats, no fried pork rinds either, so we'll see what it looks like tomorrow. Also did 15 minutes on the treadmill maybe that's the key.

Oh God, daughter wants me to meet his mom, next Sat. Didn't think about meeting "them" yet. Wow, nervous for sure.

Plus not sure what to wear to the engagement party. Luckily outdoor evening party, so maybe I'll just blend in or find a corner to go hide in. I really don't like the way I look these days.

Please give me strength.

Lisa

Does Hellmans Have Carbs?

I got up this morning ready to make deviled eggs for breakfast and now I am not sure if Hellman's mayo has any carbs. Label says no, but ingredients list sugar right before lemon juice, so now I'm scared to use it.
Scale down to 209.4 again, so yeah...NO MORE DIET SODA HERE. Club or Selzer only.

Is the recipe for the frittata in the recipe section. I would love to cook more and yesterday spent the afternoon drooling in the FOOD PORN section. Too funny.

Much better mood today for sure.

Frittatas are really easy... they are like quiche with no crust. You can use anything you have to put in them...I vary it up each time!

This recipe is one I created, but you can use any combination of ingredients to go with the eggs. This frittata can be sliced into wedges and kept in the refrigerator for a quick, on-the-run breakfast, or to take to office for lunch. It can also be frozen.

Make sure you use an ovenproof skillet – I used my 10-inch cast iron skillet and made sure to spray it well with PAM.

Make sure the top shelf of your oven in about 6” below the broiler. Turn on broiler.

On the stove, heat skillet on med-high; add 2 tbsps butter (as well as the PAM, if needed).

Add any raw vegetables or meat and sauté until lightly done. (I used ½ chopped red onion and 10 chopped mushrooms and about 10 asparagus stalks)

Add any cooked ingredients and heat them through. (I used some leftover fresh spinach I had cooked with garlic last night, and some chopped deli ham)

Whisk eggs with salt, pepper and ¼ cup cream, half & half, or milk. (I also added some dried parsley flakes, a shake of garlic powder.) If adding cheese, add about half of it into the eggs and whisk again. (I used grated parmesan.)

For my 10-inch skillet, I used 9 eggs.

For a 12-inch skillet, I would use 12 eggs

Add the egg mixture to the skillet. Cook the eggs for about 2 minutes, using a spatula to keep the liquidy part going to the bottom. When the bottom is set and the eggs are mostly cooked, but still very wet on top, stop stirring.

Top with the remaining cheese. Put on top shelf under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and top is browned. Let sit for 5 minutes to make sure it is cooked through.

Wow, well it's been a long time since I've checked in! Still going at it, just was getting obsessive about this site and food so I've been staying away but eating right. Going to jump back in soon now that I've got my head on straight.
I'll have to come back and read how everyone's been doing later!

Lisa here checking In.

Well, this week the scale is not my friend. But in reading lots of the other posts, I see where I am going bad. Likely too much steak at dinner, it's enough to push me right out of ketosis. Additionally, I drink iced tea, that I brew, but I put lemon and a packet of truvia into each 16 oz glass. Didn't realize that would toss me off the mountain, but now I do. So I guess I gotta give up the tea and truvia at least for now. I made a crustless quiche, with ham but couldn't eat it because it was so sweet. A quick read of the label on the ham steak confirmed that the meat was sugar cured. Wow, it was so so so sweet, that it made me nauseous. So I'm going to make it again with zuccini and onion, no meat. Looking forward to it. Will make a good breakfast on the run or added to a salad for lunch. Is there a specific amount of protein I should eat? I read Atkins through and through, but can't find an amount.

The good news is that with measurements, looks like I lost an excess of 10 inches, even though the scale refuses to drop below 209.

Susan, wow!! Congrats! Guess you don't have the hormonal issues that some of us have. Keep it up while things are going smoothly. Way back when on my first attempt at Atkins I lost 40 pounds in three months. Now I'm lucky to lose 10 in that time. I look back and wish I had kept going when it was a lot easier.

Lisa, congrats to you too on losing inches, way cool. Too bad about giving up your iced tea, but we gotta do what we gotta do, right? About the protein, in Protein Power they have a way to figure your protein requirement. You estimate your lean body mass (you minus your fat), activity level, and then multiply your lean body mass by a certain factor. For me, my lean body mass is about 125 pounds at 5'6", medium frame. My activity level is medium. So I multiply .6 x 125 to get 75 grams of protein a day. And that does seem to be about right. Any higher than about 90 and I don't lose weight, and blood sugar goes up. Most women would fall between 60 to 90 grams of protein a day to retain muscle mass.

Hi mamabear and Divine too.

I'm very low carbing, which also falls under the Atkins '72 induction with the goal of near 0 carbs. Can't do the lemon or daily salads and keeping under 1600 calories. Losing extremely slowly. I did take a week to eat slightly higher carb and gained three pounds back. Ugh. I did feel that I needed the break, though. Trying to get back to siggy weight right now.
