Team '72 Week of 7/14/08
Good morning everyone!
I had a great weekend off. I actually didn't do anything all weekend, except grocery shop. No laundry (did during week), no cleaning (kids did it all) - it was great! I complained on Thursday about everyone being home all day, and nothing being done when I get home from work. Nobody cleaned, did dishes, made dinner or anything. I kind of went on strike on Friday. I didn't make dinner or clean or lift one finger for anyone. So Saturday morning I went to the library for an hour or so and when I got home, my house was being cleaned by the kids (under the instruction of DH of course - God forbid he does anything). I guess they didn;t like me going on strike. Even on Sunday, the kids did the dishes in the afternoon. It was cool.Mary - Please send me that info on the diet as well. I was reading a book from the library called the Fat Resistance Diet. It suggests that if you're having problems losing weight, it could be "inflamation" caused by leptin resistance. The diet supposedly gets it under control and makes it possible to lose weight. I have not finished reading it yet, but it's interesting so far, and makes sense. Alison - Congrats on your loss!! ![]() ![]() Hopefully everyone comes back this week. Have a great day!!!

Happy (?) Monday Morning, all...
WTG, Kim: love that "strike" and glad they all did something!
Stayed on Stillmans mostly over the weekend...which was quite the feat since we were busy running around on Saturday & went to a 60th b-day party...STEP AWAY FROM THE CAKE was my mantra the whole time we were there. Then we went to a huge family picnic at a lake house...knew there would be lots of temptation there, so we took a cooler & stopped at grocery store to buy a bunch of cold deli chicken. That was good, but by the time we pulled all the breading/skin off, what looked like big juicy pieces were quite small. But kept us out of the carby stuff! (Did a teensy Atkinsy-stuff with a slice of cheese & a handful of nuts, but other than that was all Stillmans.) Seem to be losing very slowly again...like 1/2 lb. a week...but at least it's losses. At this point, I'll take it. ![]()

Yummy easy Dip recipes
o.k., I have to post 2 dip recipes...These were at the family picnic...they looked & smelled good...people chowed right through them very quickly so they must be dee-lish...I was good, not grazing! They look Atkins-legal to me, if served with low-carb veggies. I can't have them yet due to the cheese, But, thinking "someday"
Salmon Dip 1 pkg. salmon (the pouch kind, find it by the canned tuna) ...or can use leftover grilled salmon, skin removed, about 1 large serving size 1/2 tsp. onion powder 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 8 oz pkg cream cheese, softened to room temperature (don't microwave to soften-don't want it warm) Break salmon up (flake) in a mixing bowl. combine all ingredients with salmon in bowl using electric mixer. Serve as veggie dip, or with crackers/chips ************************************************** ***** Swiss Cheese Dip 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature (don't melt in micro-do not want it to melt the cheese) 1 1/2 c. shredded swiss cheese 1 tsp. dill 1/3 c Hellman's or Best Foods Mayonaisse (do not use miracle whip) mix all ingredients well. (the shredded cheese adds "texture" to the dip) Serve as veggie or cracker/chip dip NOTE-add extra mayo if dip is too "stiff" for dipping Last edited by catne : 07-14-2008 at 07:45 AM. |

Too cold!!! Well girls...I want to share with you my latest diet experience....Okay...Stillmans....done that for 18 solid days...lost 8lbs...Cheated on July 4th....Gained 4lbs back....Scales refused to move entire WEEK!!! I was barely eating!! I could hold in the palm of my hand everything I had eaten in one day!!! Did not loose anything until Thursday (7-10) Finally seen a 2lb lost....Saturday, went out to eat and to the movies with DH and the kids...Ate at a buffet and had steak and pork chop...Gave in and ate some veggies...Sunday kept it Atkins legal....This AM...down to 148!!! Can't believe it!!! After I increased my intake, the scales began to move!!! I never believed that you had to eat to loose!! But this is a proven FACT!!! Now I'm gonna keep it Atkins 72 legal...I think I need the VEGGIES in my diet!!!

![]() ![]() WTG Tommie...you are SO CLOSE to your goal! That is sooo cool![]() I think you're doing it just right...shaking it up when you get stalled. Keep your metabolism guessing ![]() Hey, guess what I'm listening too while I do lots of chores around the house...I'm blasting the Mamma Mia! soundtrack...love it! That's dating me, but I was young adult all through the "ABBA" era (disco 70's...was never much good at disco dancing, but loved the beat )We saw the Broadway road show of Mamma Mia...can't wait until Friday when the movie comes out. Later, ladies...my timer's going off...making cola chicken & cola turkey burgers, boiling eggs this a.m. cuz' high temps here are supposed to be 92 today, 94 tomorrow & 96 Wednesday ...so I'm not cooking inside after this a.m. for the next few days (I'm hoping DH will do me some grilling, though!) |

Well I made around $130 on the yard sale... Still have a bunch of kids clothes left, but there winter clothes so I'm thinking of having another one the end of august, maybe they'll sell better then. Morning ya'll!!! I'm so happy to see you online!
Cathy, I want to see Mama Mia too, but don't think that DH will go for it! It looks fantastic though. There are several summer movies out right now that I want to see, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Dark Knight ... I know he'll go see one of those with me. Kim, will do - gotta find your email - I have it on my laptop but it's turned off right now, but will get that out to you asap. If ya wanna PM me your email addy, I need to put it on this desktop anyway. It'll just be from a different address this time, so when you see @mac.com that'll be me! Good for you for going on strike! Sometimes we gotta do that I think to open people's eyes!! Hey TomTom... sure been missing ya! When we bought a new central unit the guy tried to talk me into using the same size and I insisted that if they wanted my business that they'd have to go up a 1/2 ton or I'd go elsewhere till somebody did! What do you think they did???? Tommie, you might want to try this thing that I'm doing too - there's a group of us that are starting a challenge next Monday. I'll send the diet info to you too. |

That sounds like a pretty good yard sale to me! You should ebay those clothes - I heard that kid's stuff moves pretty quick on ebay. |

Nice garage sale $$ Brandi...and I bet a late Summer/Early Fall garage sale would take care of the winter clothes...maybe after Labor Day. People are thinking back-to-school clothes now/hot so probably not even thinking about winter yet. But they will be, especially once school starts. With gas/grocery prices so high, people will be looking for bargains then too. I'm almost done with the painting, etc. on my porch...have to go back & touch up here & there, but will have to do it in the early a.m. cuz it's gonna be so hot & humid here the paint won't dry correctly. I'll try to take pictures, if I can get my camera back from my DD--she keeps taking off with it!
I'm really pleased with the way it's turned out...lots of clearance-prices on the decor (went with kind of a nautical/tropical theme...since we're on the river & lake...and everyone's got all the summery-decor stuff on clearance everywhere...SCORE! lots of 50-75% off stuff. I just hate to pay full price for trendy decor !)Mary, we have an AMC theater not too far away (well, actually everything is at least a 1/2 hour away, cuz we're basically out in the country!) Anyway, this place starts showing movies Sunday morning...and any movie that starts before Noon is only $4.00 (instead of the evening price of $9.00.) We love it...and it seems to be easier to avoid the concessions stand on Sunday a.m.-just not even hungry for that stuff in the a.m. So, at that price, and avoiding the concession prices/temptations, we've seen quite a few movies this summer. Liked Get Smart (another nostalgic one!) and we absolutely loved Iron Man (great guy movie, too) Wanted got good reviews from the pro critics, but we thought it was yuck...lots of violence with no redeeming features (I don't mind violence if the "good guys" win, or there's a moral to the story, whatever...but to have no clear "winners"...like I said, yuck. I think the critics just liked it cuz they love non-happy endings & enjoy watching Angelina Jolie kicking a$$, as well as getting the chancee to see her nekkid - briefly. ) As for the food, you know the only way I stay on plan is because I'm focused on planning the next vacation (when I take a vacation from dieting, too ) |

Cathy wished I liked painting! I gotta get my pictures uploaded to the computer, just cant find the time at home! guess I could do it here at work.
Mary- I have a couple of neighbors that sell stuff on ebay.. I told them they would have to show me how.. they say its easy, but it looks confusing to me! I've never even bought anything from it. I was checking it out today along w/another site called thegrocerygame.com it's supposed to save you lots of money on coupon shopping. I have a neighbor who uses the site and save a least a half on her grocerys!

Tommie, this is from that book I'm reading and kinda explains the low calorie thing. The book is by Wendy Chant and is called "Crack the Fat Loss Code." It's not really a low carb diet, but uses lower carb days to cycle with higher ones. It's a lot of switching back and forth so don't know if my CRS will keep up with it but I'm gonna give it shot next Monday. Week one is basically low carb under 20 net grams, then you start the cycling.

Cathy, can't wait to see your porch. I love thrifty decorating!
I know what you mean about Jolie - she had a few good movies but her last few were, well... okay at their best in my opinion. I think she's overrated personally. I truly don't know how she gets paid so much. And I'm still mad at her over the whole Anniston/Pitt thing! DH and I always do the matinees - it's cheaper, usually less kids cuz they don't want to go to the movies before noon for pete's sake and much less crowded otherwise. Now if people would quit TEXTING during the movie I'd be happier! I just don't get that... |

Brandi, from what I understand ebay isn't hard. Hey you know that computer guy that advertises on tv all the time - Video Professor. He offers a free CD - you gotta pay shipping of like $6.95 I think - anyway you can get the buy and sell on ebay for that. It's like a loss leader - he hopes you'll come back and buy other CDs from him when you want to learn something on computers. You might want to check that out. In fact, I OUGHT to check that out LOL... anyway if you google that Video Professor you'll see what I'm talking about.
I've heard about that grocery game site - when I checked it before they only had one store in my area though but I imagine it works great if you have a few more options than that. I still save the coupon booklets - and I really need to get more diligent about doing the "game!" Basically you take the Sunday coupon booklet, mark the day and file it by date. No clipping! Then she posts the store sales and tells you which coupons go with them from which coupon booklet. Then you clip and buy. I need to go see if she added any stores for my area. Quote:

Mary, I bet this works...I really do think there's a lot to the "shake it up/mix it up" dieting, especially for those of us (ALL OF US!) who have done a life-time of yo-yo-dieting. It's like our metabolisms have grown "smart" over the years...let us lose for a little while on a new WOE, but after a couple of weeks, our metabs say "aha, I know what you're doing, shut down the losing-machine!" And then we stall. And often give up & re-feed with all the junk again to regain the weight. It just makes more sense to switch the WOE to a different diet when we stall...fool the metab for awhile again
If we keep switching it up, we can keep the fat-burning machine going. That's my take on it, anyway. ![]() "Tommie, this is from that book I'm reading and kinda explains the low calorie thing. Mary & Cathy- I bet that does work, b/c when I was Low Carbing back in may, ( i know i cheated), I had lost the 5 pounds and then I switched to ww for that one week and lost 4 pounds ( of the 5 I gained back probably
) but I got down to 138. So maybe we do need to switch it up |

Well, ya'll know I'll let you know honestly how it goes for sure!! Tommie I totally forgot you are about to go to Vegas! The one thing that cracked me up the most there, was when you walk down the street there are people all over that hand out these postcards for strippers and escorts and such - they give them to everybody, men, women, younger "adults"! That was kinda bizarre to me!
I'm goofing off today.... all that financial stuff I'm trying to catch up on is on hold till I get my credit card statements for the end of last year. I didn't realize I was on paperless billing! Well, I do check them every month since I use my card like a debit card to get points and I pay it off each month - so I was checking it just to make sure there wasn't any monkey business going on. Well, I always go back and reconcile it too - only I hadn't done that since my VACATION. Ya'll THAT was at the end of October!!!!! I know.... so that is what I've been doing, and since I'm such a perfectionist I had to go all the way back, write everything down, reconcile it against the card and the bank, record the auto withdrawals, yada yada... it has been a PAIN! So now I'm waiting on the statements.... It's pouring rain and stormy here again today anyway... what else is there to do but goof?? And eat LOL.... Has anybody talked to Ing? I've been worried about her... Last edited by marymc : 07-14-2008 at 12:48 PM. |

I know - though I'm not worried so much about Jen since she's doing low cal - I didn't expect to see her often cuz of that. But Ing, I'm worried about because of this cancer scare. That "C" word is pretty scary. Well, hope she checks in and says hi soon. Cathy may be right, could just be studying for the bar exam and that takes up some precious time.

Hi everyone!
I skimmed through the posts, but will have to come back later to chime in ![]() I do want to say that it is not necessary to pay for the Grocery Game. There are other sites that are way better and FREE I am a big coupon shopper. All of my non-food items (toiletries, paper goods, etc) are always FREE or near to it. We have a huge stock load of these items...not only will we never run out, but we also donate them to shelters and use them in church service projects, also sell some in garage sales and on Ebay when I am feeling motivated enough (Ebay is great, but time consuming). And as for food shopping I can save anywhere from 50%-75%. I have managed to build a 3 month supply of foods that are continuously rotated and eaten. I have also begun storing 1 years worth of food in case of an emergency/disaster. Coupon shopping has made it possible for us to afford a food storage Anyhow, I can post a bunch of links if you all are interested. Or feel free to pm me for more info. I don't want to spam the thread if there are only 1 or 2 of you interested ![]()
