Team '72 Week of 6/9/08
Good morning all!
![]() I guess I'm the thread starter today. Had a crappy weekend. Weather was in the 90's and no air conditioning. Needless to say it was too hot to cook, so we ordered out both Saturday and Sunday. So much for staying clean, eh? So Back to day 1 again.... Hope everyone else had a better one. |

Hey everyone! Scale seems stuck for me. I guess I am eating too much, and not excercising enough....still where it was when I came back from PA.
My mom (we live on the farm here) has the flu. My sister is just getting over the flu. I hope it is not something we all brought back from the Hershey trip! Hope you all had a great weekend! |

Morning Gals! I see its been both a quiet weekend AND a quiet morning so far.
I am still feeling pretty crappy - it's just miserable having all this congestion in my head and my lungs! I can't hear and sick of the nose blowing and coughing already! Ugh!!!! At least I don't have the flu-ish feeling like I did on Saturday. That was really miserable and like I said, I never even bothered to get dressed or out of bed!! Kathy and Tommie, probably won't make it out today to the post office but will shoot for tomorrow. I can't deal with even thinking of standing in line with a bunch of people right now. Kim, don't feel bad ... I had a few carbs myself, but I'm aiming for as close to induction as I can this week. I'd like to see LCing bring the weight down a little bit before trying to go back to the 40/30/30 and calorie counting. We'll see what happens. Didn't get on the scale but I'm sure it's up a bit from the noodle soups, crackers and such. I tried to eat low carb but to be honest, there wasn't a lot of protein foods that even appealed to me. Seems like the heat wave is all over now, and even up to Canada! Wow. I certainly feel for ya'll believe me. We've had no rain at all in weeks, and I can't even keep up with the watering to keep the plants happy. Flowers are all fading - almost seems to be not worth it when this happens. We do have a forecast for a 30-40% chance for scattered thunderstorms this week so maybe we'll see some this week. Kim, my A/C stays on pretty much year round and I'd love to see my husband try to get in my way with that. I have to turn that sucker down to 65 at night just to sleep! I blame it on hormones and he stays out of the way. Very Smart Man.Good to see ya Ing! Thanks for the link to that video - it does look interesting and now I can see why people have a difficult time describing it. I wish I could get motivated into a regular exercise program but it's difficult enough for me to just walk! Don't know why, but I don't think that there will ever be a chance of me exchanging my food obsession for an exercise obsession like some I see here on these boards! ![]() Kathy, you had a weather related death in your community?? Gosh... that's awful. Was it someone that you knew? I think in my illness I've fallen out of the loop with what's going on with the weather around the country. So sorry to hear of the troubles - hope things clear up soon. Rose, sorry to hear your hubby is heading back to the "sandbox" .... will keep him in my prayers. It was probably a wise decision to stay in Texas for the time being if for nothing but to keep the familiar close. Do you ever watch that show on Lifetime called "Army Wives." I got hooked on it the first season and wow, what a season opener they had this Sunday. Being a military spouse can be so difficult and this show pretty much showcases how hard things can get. Good morning and hello to everybody else! Hope to see you all soon and hear of your weekend antics.

I just found this recipe and thought I'd share:
Flax Meal Peanut Butter Hot Cereal If you are not used to a lot of fiber, you may not want to start with a whole recipe of this. It is 10 grams of fiber, and one third of that is soluble, which is good for you, but it's a lot at once. That said, it's yummy, low carb, quick to make, and will see you through the morning! Prep Time: 3 minutes Ingredients: · 1/4 C flax seed meal · 1/2 C boiling water · 2 T peanut butter · 1/4 t cinnamon Preparation: Note that a half recipe would be 2 T flax meal, 1/4 C water, and 1 T peanut butter. 1) Pour boiling water over flax seed meal and stir well. 2) Stir in peanut butter and cinnamon. 3) Let thicken for 1 to 2 minutes. Eat. Nutritional Analysis: Each recipe has 5 grams of effective carbohydrate plus 10 grams of fiber, 14 grams protein, 29 grams fat, and 351 calories.

Mary - We had 8 inches of rain over the weekend! We are still under flood warnings from all the overflowing creeks and rivers. The deaths were a 15 year old kid and his aunt who were delivering newspapers very early yesterday morning. The road had washed out from all the rain, and although there were no witnesses, they think either their car caused the collapse or they just didn't see the washed out road...they fell at least 30 feet into a creek and the car overturned. They found them later yesterday morning, dead in the car! It's very sad...this is a very small community.
My menu for today (gonna try to do this more consistently): B-Coffee Snack - 1/2 of a bran crispbread cracker Lunch - Chicken salad with cut-up chicken, 2 hb eggs, 1/2 large chopped up pickle, mayo and hot sauce. Dinner - Not sure, but think it will be ground beef and sauteed cabbage. Lots of water! Kath

Oh Kath... that's a horrible story! I feel for their families - how sad. And over newspapers.
Here we've had no rain and you all are getting bombarded with it. If there is rain in the forecast for today you would not know it, the sun is beating down, not a cloud in the sky, so I've been outside with the sprinkler again. Some of my tomatoes are beginning to turn, but I was hoping they'd be bigger. Kinda small. I think I figured out the squash problem - seems they aren't getting enough early sun, so I may try to move them and see if I can save them. Problem is trying to do anything in this heat. I've already lost a plant that I intended to move but never got around to. Today for lunch I ended up having two hamburger patties with lc ketchup, sf mayo and a bit of mustard. Don't know why, but I was just in the mood for a burger and with the Foreman grill it's just so easy, especially if you have the patties pre-made. Guess I can eat the tuna for a snack if I want it. |

I finally got my US tax refund thing from good old President Bush, so we went to pick out a new cover for our bedroom, matching curtains and a ton of paint. We are painting the kitchen, living room and bedroom, hurray!

Hi Suzanne - seen you popping in and out the last couple of days. I heard that a lot of people are spending the tax stimulus money despite what many said about paying off bills or saving it. It sure came in handy for me, and I definitely spent it that's for sure! Did you recently move from the U.S. to Canada??

Hello, all
Just poppin in to say a quick Hi... we still have high water on lake & river, so hoping the next couple of days stay dry around here so water will go down. There was quite a bit of tornado damage in southwest Omaha early Sunday a.m., no one hurt but building damage & trees down, etc.--that's just about 20 miles north of here. Damage was only a few blocks from my son's apartment.Yikes! I think the whole country can use a break & a stretch of mild weather (no more rain, wind or 90's temps for a few days, please!) Well, have to go make dinner. Hope everyone has a quiet night!

Hey Mary,
No, I have been up in Canada for over 8 years now, so I actually feel like it is my home now. I grew up in NYC and still visit my dad there a lot, actually going in two weeks. You would think I would have learned the stupid language afyter 8 years, but not so much. I will never ever give American immigrants a hard time and say "why can't they just learn english?" Learning a new language is a bit trickier than one might think, lol. |

Thankfully my son speaks both, so he translates for me a lot. I can do my day to day stuff in French, but it can be hard when he has friends over to our house cause they only speak French, that is when I need my son to help me out, lol.

Good Morning all!!
I worried about you guys Kathy...Cathy...Brandi...and Ing...wasn't sure if the flooding was near you guys or not!! Don't have a computer at home to check in with all of you. Glad to hear you are all safe!! ![]() Mary...We had so much rain yesterday!! It was awful!! The church called me at the last minute and asked if I could go get the kids from church camp. The person suppose to go had something come up and they needed an extra driver. So I bailed outta bed and drove about 25 miles to church camp and picked up part of the kids. We had 18 go. It was raining so hard, I had a hard time seeing the road. Then all of the suit cases had to go in the back of another person's pickup because there wasn't enough room in my SUV and another girls SUV. Everyone's stuff was soaked!!! What a mess!! Well I had a very strange experience this weekend....I think I will be tramatized for a while!! My sister in laws mother passed away Saturday evening. She and her husband had planned to not be embalmed!! Therefore in the state of Oklahoma, you have to be burried within 24 hours!! They didn't want her taken to a funeral home or put in a coffin!! Therefore, they wrapped her in a quilt that her mother had made and took her directly from the hospital to the cemetary ( in their car!) and burried her. They put her in a plastic liner that the funeral home special ordered for them. No preacher or anything!! We did not attend the burrial because my sis n law wanted it to just be immediate family. My poor brother was the one that had to handle putting her in the grave and covering her up!! OMG!! I bawled just thinking about it!! They believe in returning the body back to the earth. It was just awful to think about!! I know its easier on the family to hurry the funeral along, but my goodness!! I was totally freaked out!! ![]() Well enough of that!!! I didn't even try to diet this weekend!! Besides that death, we had a family friend die of cancer...she was only 49. Still had a 14 year old at home!! I cooked for both families Sunday. So I ended up making 3 pans of lasagna, 2 bowls of banana pudding, 1 pan of brownies, garlic bread, and then managed to cook for my family. I spent all weekend in the kitchen!! Then fried fish and made lemon pie yesterday!!! I'm sooo far from the wagon, I can't even smell the horse crap!!!!

Hey ya'll... dragging in. Feelin' a bit better, but well... not really. Woke up with a big old headache and STILL congested.
Tommie and Kathy I'm gonna try to get the stupid box from the post office later today when it cools down. Sorry it's taking me so long but I promise I'll get those to you, I swear!! OMG Tommie.... I have NEVER heard of anyone doing that before! I wouldn't even think that'd be legal to do anymore. When Mama died, she was at her house - my sister and I cared for her in those final days - and once she passed, we called hospice who contacted the funeral home. It was difficult enough to deal with them wheeling her body out when only moments before she was living and breathing! I cannot imagine trying to tote her body in my car! Much less burying her myself. Dear God in Heaven..... I'd be traumatized too!!! Sorry that you had to deal with two deaths over the weekend. Over the weekend, I saw the obituary of a girl I grew up with in my old neighborhood - she and I were good friends all through school, but lost touch after graduating from high school and with both of us getting married. I often thought of her and wondered where she was when I would drive by her mother's old house. She was my age and she died from cancer too. It kinda freaked me out. We finally did get some rain early this morning. I heard the thunder and apparently it poured pretty good. We needed it sorely. Nothing like what's been going on up north though... that's some scary stuff I've seen on tv the last couple days. Sure hope that things dry up for ya'll today. I ate low carb yesterday but a good deal more than I had on my plan. I was very hungry so I kept trying to eat more protein and more fat to try and satisfy my hunger. When I went to bed I was so naseauted from all the fat!! I hope today's appetite is a bit calmer in that respect! Tommie you are such a jewel! I can't believe how you step up for people in need - you have such a good heart. Don't worry about the "diet" - you'll get back on track. You're in a place where you can do that - unlike me who can't seem to get under 200 pounds much less down to 160 or even 180 for pete's sake. I'll get there, but it sure came off much easier in my younger years I tell ya!! Suzanne, I tried to learn Spanish to finish out my BA - took the first year and made it through with a B. Signed up for II, walked in the classroom and the teacher was speaking no English and only Spanish - was totally lost, got freaked out and dropped the class. I still needed II, III, and IV to complete my degree!!! Now I know why so many people go for the B.S. degree as opposed to the B.A. It's just really hard and Kathy, I know a lot of people who go through all four years of language and still can't really speak it!! It's because they try to teach you all the semantics of the language instead of just how to speak conversationally. It's much easier when you are immersed in the language to learn I think.... well, especially at my age. But... I can't afford to spend a summer in Spain!! Darn. Oh Mary - FYI I made those ice cream bars last night and they sure didn't last long
![]() The one with the peanut butter coating was just awesome. I felt the chocolate coating one was too bitter and you couldn't taste the filling. Definitely going to be a lc staple desert in my house. Even DH and the kids liked them (I made a double batch). |

Hey Kim!! It was like people were here and then poof. Everybody was gone!
I knew those ice cream bars were gonna be good. I think she mentioned somewhere that she was still working on one of them. I am procrastinating on going to the post office. I need to mail two packages and just can't get the energy up to get ready! Plus it started rumbling like it was gonna rain again. Ugh... I'll be glad when I feel NORMAL again! |

She said she was working onthe chocolate filling. If you notice on the posted recipe, there is no chocolate listed. I was wondering that last night when I was making them. She did say coconut cream..?
It's going to rain here soon too. It's good for the plants. We actually had tornado warnings in this area on Sunday. We were all standing outside waiting...bunch of dumba**es we are. I think all the neighbours were out there too. It's something we've never seen before, so everyone was outside. What are ya mailing? |
