Mary:
Sorry to hear of the unemployment blues. You may recall, I am in the same field. I wear two hats one paralegal and also as an advocate for kids with special needs (civil rights firm).
My area is very specialized, I worry that if worse came to worse, I would not have the experience to cut it in a large, corporate firm.

Uuuggghhh where is our perfect world ladies??

Tommie, I do this with little bits of leftover veggies!! It's perfect and really does make for a good soup too. Oh I love my deep freeze. My ex-BF that used to live with me with his two kids bought one of those small chest sized ones and that was when I realized the value of having it. I now have a bit larger stand up, which I like a lot better. It has the door on it so it opens like a regular refrigerator and things don't get "lost" in the stand up so much as in the chest type. It's certainly easier to dig through. Mine lives in the garage.

I think we all need to learn how to go back to basics Tommie, like making one meal become several. That's a great reminder to cook extra of something for that very purpose and I do try to do that myself. Ya'll are making me feel better about our groceries prices I tell ya! And what I'm paying is high for this area. The one thing about living here was always the cost of living was reasonable. Well, until Katrina hit and caused insurance rates to skyrocket. But that's a whole 'nother story there....

Yeah Jen, I do remember that you're in the legal field too. I have been fortunate to do just about every area of law though I did employment discrimination and litigation mostly last. I've done a bit of everything tho. The biggest roadblock I think has been that most jobs advertised and that I've applied for are for legal secretaries - not paralegals - which is okay with me! I consider them basically one and the same really. But, I guess employers are leary that I'll be happy in that position or that they'll be able to compensate me.

Well he says he keeps a cool whip bowl in his freezer and everytime he has a veg left over, he adds it to the bowl. He said when its full, he has all the vegetables he needs for a pot of soup!!! I thought Holy Crap!! Why didn't I think Of that!! I mean he adds his carrots, potatoes, onions, peas, green beans, tomatoes....I thought that was really a great idea!!

I have a small deep freeze and I honestly never used it!! We had to move it into my kitchen since we are closing in our carport and WOW!! I use that thing now!!

And this is for a dozen eggs only too!!!! I've always heard the cost of living in California is pretty high, but the trade off is the great weather and the beauty of the area I guess.

Here me is..here me is!!

Good afternoon lovely ladies. Just taking a break from the tax chaos. Can you believe the Canada Revenue site is down, and we can't e-file any returns? It was down last night too. Must be system overload! All the last minute filers...LOL.

I don't have time to read all the posts, I just wanted to say hi!

Jen - I hear you on the high food prices. Your food prices sound like the ones here in Canada. The gas prices are really high too - $1.20 per litre and there are 4.546 litres per gallon = $5.46 a gallon

I know - I'm walking or biking wherever I can now. I have to drive to customers though, so I have to start charging extra for mileage. The gas prices are killing me.

$3.75 today (Michigan) I put about 500-700 miles on my car every week, but we get mileage reimbursement when I visit my clinics...not quite at the federal rate, but it helps a little.

Howdy yawl...

Food and gas are both killing me!! I spent $120 on gas last week just to get to work and back...as for food, I found a really neat trick...EAT AT MOMS! Seriously, that is where we eat most of our meals...I cook about once a week and we eat leftovers or eat at moms the other times..it is pitiful, but what can ya do?

Tommie...saw your cake, looked cute, although he didn't appreciate it...grrrrrr

Luckily, I avoided dreams of apples last night...although I think I was dreaming about chocolate...was reading a Disney forum about various chocolate adult beverages available at Disneyworld (mudslides, things made with ice cream & Bailey's Irish Cream....you get the picture.)
Anyway...seemed pleasant, LOL.

Don't get me started on groceries...& gas. I'd love to have the option to bike or use mass transportation, but not for all of us who live in small towns out in the middle of nowhere...it 10 miles on country roads & highway for me to get to the nearest old-fashioned small town grocery store...and 30 miles to get to Walmart & large chain grocery stores. So I'm stuck driving everywhere.

So, my good news today was I went to doctor today to have blood drawn (routine test for thyroid meds.) Anyway, they hadn't weighed me there since January so I told the nurse she had to weigh me today...I was thrilled to see that my scale is still showing correct weight for me. Weight at doctor's this morning (in clothing & shoes, after breakfast & several cups of tea) was just 2.5 lbs. over my first wake-up weight at home (before breakfast & nekkid, of course.) So I'm thinking my scale is very accurate since the difference was about right for adding clothes & breakfast. And the nurse was very impressed because I was down 35 lbs. since last time they weighed me in January. So, that made my day!

Kim, that A$$ cake sounds funny...reminds me of a contest they have at our local county fair every summer...The Ugliest Cake contest. A teenager from the next town over has won the junior division every year for like 5 years running. She makes all kinds of stuff like that...last year it was a "garbage dump" complete with a life-size gummy rat and gummy worms all over it. Really looked like a pile of garbage but every bit was edible cake, frosting & various candies.

Cathy - that's so funny. My daughter likes making things like that.

I'm glad you had a good doctor visit. I have to go soon too to have my blood done and thyroid meds adjusted. I've lost 30 lbs since the last time I had the meds adjusted, so I'm hoping she notices without me telling her. It's been about 4 months since I was there last too. I'm almost out of thyroid meds so I have to go. I also stopped taking my blood pressure meds - I wonder what she'll say about that. My pressure's been fine, so I don't see a problem. I take it every couple days.

Congrats on the 35 lbs - you're so close to that vacation goal.
