This may sound like a silly question but I've lived outside the US for the past 5 years and don't have regular access to many things. How is the heavy cream packaged most of the time? I can buy canned milks here "carnation milk" "condensed milk" and I found one small can that says cream.. the labels on most things here are in Spanish even though it's an English speaking Country so I can't read everything on the label. I live in Belize.. and in a rather remote area at that.. not near a large town or city. I want to be sure I buy the right thing.

Hi, db. Heavy cream is simply fresh whipping cream with its full measure of milk fat in it. Here, you can buy half and half, light whipping cream and heavy whipping cream. I'm fairly certain you do NOT want to use a canned product--I'm pretty certain that would have far more carbs than you want.

I'm not sure of your situation--whether you perhaps have access to a diary or a market with fresh milk products, but what you want is fresh, unprocessed cream with as much milk fat as you can find.

Ok, thanks.. I really don't even need it unless there is some real benefit to it.. I posted that question about the benefits on another thread.

The only benefit I see is that it's an easy way to add some fat to your diet. Because I don't eat any vegetables but salad and am not keen on most mayo/fatty dressings, sometimes I end the day with too little fat.

I don't think there's any reason to go to any particular trouble to add cream to your diet.

Sorry to ask you so many questions but it seems that there are a lot of differences in the 72 version and the new version. I still track everything on fitday so I know what percentage of fat, protein, carbs.. that I eat... when you say you sometimes don't get enough fat... what is a good precentage.. I'm getting about 68 - 70 % fat.. 25 -30 % protein and about 2% carbs... give or take a few percentages.

Heavy whipping cream makes out-of-this-world baggie ice cream. Here's what you'll need:

1 gallon size zipper plastic bag

1 quart size zipper plastic bag

lots of ice

rock salt (you can find small boxes at most grocery stores)

1 cup of heavy whipping cream.

SF vanilla syrup to taste

Fill the large gallon size bag about halfway with ice and add @ 6 tablespoons of rock salt.

Pour the ice cream mix you've created into the quart size zipper plastic bag and seal tightly.

Place this small sealed bag in the larger gallon-size bag that is filled with the ice and rock salt, then seal the larger bag.

Shake/flip the bag combo for until the ice cream hardens. This takes between 2 and 5 minutes. (Kids LOVE to do this.) The cold needs to contact the entire mix or only part of it will get firm.

Once the ice cream mix reaches the desired consistency, take out the small baggie, open it up, and scoop out the contents. We like to eat right from the baggie. Yum!

(I save the big plastic bag filled with ice and rock salt in the freezer for future batches. While the ice melts to water, it is VERY cold water that will freeze the ice cream.)
