Books from Ebay always come via Slow Boat From China, so I'll be happy if it comes today or even tomorrow!

ok, funny story, I ordered my copy from amazon, from here in town ( ok, major metropolitan) and it still took a week and a half!!!
crazy

I didn't have a specific start date, just kinda eased into it from generically eating low carb for a week.

I can tell that cream cheese ( yes, I know it's not on the first week or two) and HWC are going to be my downfall.

tend to go a bit overboard on those.....

meanwhile, my 17 yr old daughter seems to be eating ALL carbs and jokingly said today it was to spite me. Ha! laugh is on her, (ok... so not really laughing, very sad for her)

I hear ya, e. I've been back and forth with carbs (I admit I adore them), but since really getting into this, it pains me to see my family eating all that stuff. Or, they'll say they're watching out for things and eating only the "healthy whole grains".

Goodness, sounds like you could've drove over and gotten your book!!! I've been doing low carb - on my own - since mid-July. You and I sound alike. I adore cream cheese and worship HWC! I've been keeping my carbs at around 20 and now that I've read the book, keep thinking ok. You've been doing this long enough where watching the cream cheese and HWC shouldn't be a big deal for a week. I think the HWC I can be find with as long as I have my BPC and have my tea with butter.

Oh, and yogurt. I miss my Greek yogurt!

Hi all!! Bumping, because I think a lot of people get overwhelmed with all the info in the newer low carb books and that reading the original Atkins book will give you a great base knowledge. Once you understand the concept then you can incorporate different ideas ( net carbs, fats etc.) I love that this way is so simple, delicious, and works!!! Anyone else doing A '72??

Hi Lizzie

There's a few of us doing it. Seems like this particular board started out gungho but has diminished greatly. Hope you'll hang around if you're doing it.

I am doing 72 also. The hardest part is the start, but after a while you can add a lot of things back into your menu. Greek plain Yoghurt is fine for me , by the time the milk is yoghurt the lactose has been eaten up by the fermenting process. I love Dana Carpender's recipes. Will stay with you , but I am not a big writer. Good luck to us

I'm still here, although I don't think I'm doing Atkins '72 so much as just staying at 20 carbs or below. Hope stuff is working on the inside, because I can't seem to lose the weight.

I am back on the wagon after a horrible weekend. DH ordered Crumb cakes from QVC and I fell hard. They were so yummy but made me feel miserable and bloated, that's what happens when I have not had any flour and sugar for month on end. Feeling better already this afternoon.

The longer that I do atkins, the worse I feel physically when I cheat. THe next day I feel almost like I'm hungover. So, in turn, it's been good that I've sheated so much because it keeps reminding me how terrible I feel when I eat too many carbs and then I actually DON'T want to cheat. So really, cheating helps in it's own way even thought it might not seem like it now. So if you feel you absolutely need to cheat, then go ahead because it's going to remind you how terrible it feels LOL.

Is it really true that the lactose is eaten up by the fermenting process? I've heard that and then I've also heard that it isn't true. I REALLY hope it's true because I LOVE greek yogurt! I mean, I choose to believe it's true but I would like to really know. So if anyone finds a scientific article about it, please share!

Try finding the book at the library or on Amazon.

Encouragement buddy?

I receive a lot of encouragement from reading posts and really has kept me on track with Atkins lifestyle, a few bumps in the road with minimal weight loss. I had white Zinfandel few nights ago, but on course again. After induction are nuts acceptable or should I stay on induction until some weight comes off? Can I get an encouragement buddy?

Some stay on Induction for awhile, others go back to it when they seem to stall. Either way is fine. In 72' Anything is acceptable after the Induction as long as you are only adding back in 5-8 carbs. That is total carbs not net. I would love to be an encouragement buddy and you will find many on this forum. You can always PM me anytime.

Dreams, don't worry unless you seem to stall. After Induction you add in the 5-8 carbs, total carbs. As long as you are not gaining/stalling, each week you can add in 5-8 more. So if you have already gotten to 15 you are about three weeks past Induction and 20 would be the next test. See how you do with it. If you don't stop losing or start gaining, you'll know 20 is okay for you.

Thank u for you for your comments . I did find the cookbook of Atkins . looks like some great recipes in there can't wait to try em for a change . congratulations to everyone for every pound lost . I use the keto sticks to keep me in line . they work well for me . found the crockpot bags which makes easy clean up . still trying to get to know the site . not real good with this sort of thing . but trying to get better , because it really helps . if anybody has a real simple menu that they followed daily that would be great . I love the rev rolls .

Atkins 72

Good morning. I've been reading these posts and I have read all the atkins books except that first one. The 1972 one. So from what I am reading, it looks like induction is close to zero carbs as possible instead of 20? Wow, maybe I will try this for a week. When I first started doing Atkins several years ago, I could drop several pounds in first week or two but now it seems like the pounds are absolutely stuck and will not budge! MAybe this is the answer?

tbeary, 72 induction definitely helps a lot of people. I don't think I would lose at all with out it. Here's is a more current thread on it - http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/at...ou-follow.html

hi mjgh, I did follow your link and read some more about the 72 plan. I'm going to try it. I read somewhere said they only ate 1.2 carbs for the day which was two eggs. It seems almost impossible to keep carbs that close to zero....but something I am going to try anyway!
Thanks!

tbeary, an egg has .34carbs, so it would take a lot of eggs to amount to much. To get 1.2 carbs from eggs would be almost 4 eggs, but that is still not bad. I eat between 2-3 eggs a day when I am not eating a quiche. And you are only keeping the carbs low during induction. After the first week, you add in 5-8 total carbs per day per week and see how you do on the new food/carbs.

Hi Atkins 72'rs -- I think I have to start back at 72 with all of you. Tried low carb, later Atkins with minimal success especially during menop. So, hoping that this will help.

I ordered the book on Amazon today and also, on page one are the rules and allowed foods for week one. Like others here, giving up the cream cheese and lowering the HWC will be my challenge. I have about 40 -50 lbs to lose and I've been up and down the scale about 3 times in the last 6 years these same 40 lbs. I'm just over it.

I don't even care that it's Christmas -- have to stick with this. Would love to read success stories of those who had success finally with the '72 version and faster success. Sometimes I even felt I gained weight on the later Atkins diets.

Hello. New hear...But without having to scour 13 pages of replies, can anyone tell me if the OP meant tbs rather than tsp when talking about heavy cream?

Thanks!

btw.... I successfully did this diet about ten years ago. It took me quite a while to put the pounds on. Once I did, I went to the Body For Life program and it worked better than anything I had ever done. Now, though? I can't exercise and do cardio and such because of an injury. Atkins will be perfect for my situation. It does make it difficult living in Thailand though. The lack of clear labelling and ovens is overwhelming. lol

Hello.

SADWING, I'm not doing '72 any longer, but still keep up a bit here. One never knows when I'll be back. It's teaspoons per day, not tablespoons, on '72. I think in the later versions of Atkins, it's tablespoons though.

I actually found the Atkins 72 book a couple of years ago and purchased it. But the text is so small, I can barely see it to read it!

I'm glad the rules were posted on this thread.........i will just have to rely on what's written here since I cannot read the small print of that book. I wish I could find it written in larger text. (And my eyes aren't even that bad)!
