Hello to all!

I've been using Atkins to control my roundness since the book came out. Over the years I've lost and re-gained the same lbs over and over again. I never got over 180 lbs, nor below 130 lbs.

Using Atkins as a tool has kept me away from the diabetes which runs in my family, and my health is extremely good for my age. I take only one prescription drug: HRT.

Something really clicked in me last September. I told myself that this time I would stick to it (my WOE) or I would die. Now, I know that seems drastic, but I've always been one of those "all or nothing" people.

I do not cheat. Even a little bit. I've cut my AS to a minimum and diet sodas, too. My weight loss is glacial. I'm unable (don't know why) to eat too much fat without suffering, so I keep my intake as high as possible, but have to balance it out with raw veggies (love broccoli) or psyllium.

So here is my present dilemma:
I'm not losing - anything - but when I wake up in the morning I'm so weak I can barely make myself move. While I was dropping oz. this was a good sign. Now, however, I'm just concerned. Not to mention the weakness.

All input is welcome, no matter how crazy. CRAZY I can understand!

Hey g (reluctantexan),

How many carbs are you eating per day? LC totally wipes out my potassium (major sources are vegetables; meat sources are things like salmon) and that can cause weakness. Consuming too little fat (something you mention in your post) has also caused problems for me, including weakness, tiredness, etc.

Just a couple things off the top of my head!

I have been so busy, I haven't posted in a while. I need to get on here more often. I am finally down to 258, broke the 260 mark! I've been sticking to '72 the best I can--and now I have my Atkin's '72 book from Ebay. Re-reading and correcting any errors. More later

This is the quietest thread. I am starting the 72 plan tomorrow, after falling off the wagon with HCG several times, and would like to know if anyone else is currently doing this plan too??

I am going to kick my 9 month stall in the butt. Atkins 72 to see what happens.

I will correct my current LC diet to Atkins 72 rules by:
my daily cream will go from 2-4T a day to the 4tsp
let go of sausages for 1 week (and decide after that what to do)
eliminate all veggies except the salad allowed

I will NOT be doing Atkins 72 allowed foods:
artificial sweeteners
margarine or shortening

I will be substituting:
1/4 cup coconut cream for the artificially sweetened gelatine as a dessert
mayonnaise as the salad dressing for the vinegar and oil

I will be adding to the Atkins 72 Diet:
coconut oil
olive oil

I did break my stall this week with a 4 pound loss, but I want to continue the trend!

Beginning the week with a weight of 232.4

ok, well i think i need to go back to the good old fashioned atkins from 72. thanks for posting that. maybe i'll save the carbquick waffles for the second phase. i'm gonna try the rolls too. i take too much cream in my coffee too so maybe i'll try just a tbsp from now on. i think that is what is slowing my weight loss down.i drink about 5 cups of coffee a day and prob use about a half cup of heavy cream, maybe more. also, does anyone know if the carb rite bars maybe wud b the reason for no weight loss?

Thought I would report back. I have found, that reducing my already low carb diet to 20 or less has kick started weight loss for me after a 9 month stall. I was able to increase my calories a bit, and upped the fat too. While I am attempting to do Ketogenic Mediterranean Diet, there is little difference between Atkins 72 and KMD, and the foods are a bit more in my normal diet anyways.

Things that helped me lose these last two weeks have been to cut down on the nuts, increase fats (added more pan drippings to my food) and to get deeper into ketosis than just hovering in the trace readings. I cut down on soda pop (2 cans this week) and increased water consumption. I stopped having iced coffee in the afternoons (only twice this past week) which cut my heavy cream intake down.

Hollyinpugland - 1/2 cup of cream is about 410 calories. FYI. I limit myself to 2T in the morning and if I have the iced coffee, it's another 2T.

I am eating basic real foods, very little artificial sweeteners (the soda pop was my only source). I think scaling down my foods, going a bit more basic and getting those sneaky carbs all the way down to 10-20g a day made the difference. Anyone else having good results?

We're starting this on Sunday or Monday, I haven't decided yet. I want to have a copy of the book in hand first and ketostix too.

How important is the hard aged cheese? I know there is a carb difference, but is it really bad to eat Sharp Cheddar, for example, in the first week? What about Mozzarella? Some Mozzarella's have no carbs.

found the original book from '72 at the local goodwill for .49. I've stalled on induction with the new revolution version, so I'm hoping this will do the trick. On the plus side most of my cravings for sweets have all but disappeared, so transitioning to '72 will hopefully be easy.

You should go back and read the first few posts of this thread. Old induction is much stricter.

I vaguely remember old induction from my high school years in the 80's. If I remember correctly I pretty much lived on ground beef, chicken and lettuce. Oh, and water.

I've just started the whole low carb thing, reading the newest Atkins book. I think I've been having "too much fun" with the heavy cream, bacon, etc.? I lost 4 lbs but have gone up again and continue up and down 4 lbs. I try to drink lots of water, have 1-2 cups of tea and/or coffee a day. I recently started to mix 2 T HWC with coconut milk for "creamer". But I see in this plan, HWC is restricted to 4 t a day, with no mention of nut milks (which weren't invented at that time, probably). I think I can follow this for a couple of weeks? No chocolate/cocoa? How much leeway should one take with using nutmilks or other "legal" foods in the new Atkins added to this menu? Should I just bite the bullet and do it strictly for a week or 2? I'm just frustrated I guess. Any tips and encouragement would be very appreciated!

what an interesing point about the nut milks. There ARE fairly new. Nuts aren't allowed for their starch content, but macadamias are somewhat of an exception to some, and nut milks don't have as many calories or carbs as the nuts themselves. I'd wonder if it'd be any harm to include them but to be aware of the carbs...

Hi yall, I am doing the 1972 book. I do not have the book, yet. Am getting it.
I eat nothing except for meat, eggs, hard cheese, coffee/with Coconut Oil, some green olives, and sauarkrout. I do drink dite rites.
In 2002 I lost 112 poungs doing this. March 1, 2011 I started eating this way again because I regained all my weight back. The first couple months I lost 39 pounds. After I joined the Atkins web site and someone I met there sent me the new book, NANY, I only lost 5 pounds. And all of the 5 pounds was lost in about the same amount of time.

I'm am with all of yall. I can not get my weight loss started again!!!!

Sounds like we are all swimming backward :-(

So far today I have had:
Bkfst: 4 fried eggs in butter
4 oz part skim moz (it's what I had in the frig--will get full fat next time), melted & kinda "fried" in egg skillet
about 2 oz chicken breast with skin and maybe 2 tsp reduced fat vegenaise (will make my own mayo after this is gone--only has 1 carb in 2 T)
coffee with my mixture of 2 T HWC and SoDelicious Coconut milk to = 1 cup.
Plan to have my 2 small salads combined later for dinner with meat on top and I'm making those Revolution rolls and will have one, buttered!
If I get hungry, I will eat something else.
Now, is this on target for Atkins?? The more I think about this 72 version, the more I like the thought of it being simpler/less complicated, which is something I need right now. No counting carbs, calories, portions, etc.
AND, Crazyone, hang in there! You have done a fantastic job of losing! Let's do this together and we will move forward... I'm going swimming later!
