Swann, please come down and visit us at the November Challenge thread. There are a number of us doing '72. I LOVE the plan--I find it far more effective than DANDR!

I hear people saying this too, but they are also a few years older than when they started before, sooo... its hard to say..

I had excellent results the first time I lost weight but then the next few times my heart wasnt in it and it really didnt work for me. thinking I was to lenient and that I could do it my way (wrong!!)

This time I am following the plan by the book and seeing really good results ( at least I am happpy with it!)

I also had t learn not to fixate on the daily fluctuations in weight and see this as a long term process. Good luck...Lizzie

The recipe in the 1972 book is as follows:

3 eggs, separated
1/4 t. cream of tartar
3 Tablespoons cottage cheese
1 package Sugar Twin.

You'll recognize the method - it's the same. So, you get 1/2 T. of cottage cheese in each roll (yield is 6). This is far different than many Rev. Roll recipes I've seen that contain 3 ounces of cream cheese, not tablespoons.

Cream cheese has cellulose gums as fillers. If you want to do the original diet, I'd follow these instructions and not consume cream cheese. If I'm eating almost zero carbs, I find that HWC with fillers and gelling agents and cream cheese *both* make me gain weight. It's probably water, but it's frustrating because there's no way to know for sure.

If I'm eating big salads, it doesn't matter.

AHHh HA! That clears it up.. I wonder what that would be like.... I have always made mine with cream cheese too and I loved them. It made my whole LC experience very do able for me. Lately I have nixed them out completely trying for less carbs and calories.

That's funny too, though, because I thought he didn't allow any soft cheeses, cream or cottage, during week one of '72?

FWIW, I've also seen them made with mayo instead of cheese.

Back on plan

Hi, I'm Cynthia, lurked a lot and posted a little a few years ago...

Today is day #2 on Induction for me.

I tried eating low-carb by the numbers, eating anything as long as the daily carb total (net carbs) remained low. Didn't lose any weight at all. Apparently it's not just about the numbers for me and my 56-year-old body.

I've decided to eat very clean, to follow the Atkins 72 plan precisely.

Yesterday I ate meat, eggs cooked in oil, 3 oz hard cheese, and 2 cups loosely-packed lettuce w/ 1 T of a Greek vinaigrette dressing. Enjoyed it all.

I'm wondering about fiber. Does Atkins 72 allow ground flax seed? Some posts elsewhere on this board have mentioned 2 T per day, but I can't tell if that's Atkins 72 or one of the modified plans.

If not flax, then what about another fiber supplement?

Thanks,
Cynthia

I am sooooooooooooo excited! I got my copy of the 1972 edition and I can't wait to read it. The concept of "net carbs" has always made me wonder. Kinda like when weight watchers decided to add bonus points and such. I think that is why I gave up last time I did Atkins. I saw "1 net carb" and went crazy with the SF candy. I can't wait to see how things are different. And I can't wait to see how I will be different! Yea, Me!

Hey, I'm soooo impressed and inspired by all the encouragement, dedication and success on this thread

I'm feeling that VLC might not be for me though. The insomnia really gets me down, and I know from my experience before Christmas that it doesn't go away for me after a short while, as it does for many people. I slept really well when I was eating lots and lots of non-starchy vegetables so I'm going to try that again, even though seeing my carb count on ****** as 70 is really alarming after Atkins I don't remember if it did as good a job controlling my appetite (& bingeing) though, so I'll just have to keep experimenting to find what works best for me. The trouble is that I'm so easily influenced and whenever I read about things working for other people, I want to do what they're doing instead of what works for me body

I wish you all lots of fun getting to the weight at which your true gorgeousness can shine out and thanks for the inspiration

Helena

Hi, I have a quick question for you experienced 72'ers: On pg. 1 of this thread it says 2 cups loose pack green leafy salad, with cukes, radishes or celery. If I wanted, could I just have a cup of cut up cukes, radishes and celery and just skip the leafy greens? Just curious I'm thinking of trying this for 2 weeks, it doesn't seem too much more restrictive than DANDR, but I like the simplicity of it. I think I can live without cream cheese for a while....

Yes; that's totally legal. I asked the same question a few months ago. If I eat a salad, it's generally the entire meal. But I love to add veggies into my scrambled eggs and soups, etc.

Cheryl, go to Weight Loss - Diet Ticker

Pick out your style and pointer, and enter your data. Once it finishes, find the button that says Get Code, and paste that into your siggy and it should show up. You'd have to go back to the website if your weight changes, so you change it at the website and it automatically updates it in your siggy.

Thanks, metga! I'll check it out. I know I tried it on another diet ticker site and it would only post the link, not the actually ticker. Wish me luck!

Ok; I tried all three codes and none of them result in the ticker, only the code pasted into my siggie. Which code did you copy? Did it show up as a code or a ticker when you clicked "preview signature"? Do I have to save signature to see what it will actually end up being? Help!

Could be. Jami, when I clicked on the link it took me to a picture of the ticker in another window. I know some sites limit the amount of code or lines in siggys. , but Seattle has it in her siggy so it must be okay. Hold on a sec and I'll see what I can fiddle with. I think my siggy is at the max but i"ll modify it . . .

Hmmm. . .

I wonder if it is not actually in the siggy but just pasted as an image. Like this above. I thought this cause there is no siggy separator in Seattle's post before the image. In which case, I don't think it will update either. another test, hmm

I'm thinking LCF doesn't support images in siggys?

ETA: Oh , Okay, just tested, it would still update, if you changed the weight at the site, but it would only be in that one post! Oh well. I guess you could put the link in your siggy and if any one cared they could click to see.

That's what I had always heard, that if you wanted the ticker in, you had to post it on each post! Ain't going there. I'll just go back to my old self-made ticker, of just numbers. But I'll wait until I get moving again. It got depressing to look at it, when I never had any cause to update it! So I got rid of it a while ago.
