Also do you recommend anything for the headaches and feeling weak and nauseous. Those are the points I want to give up. But i have lost 8 lbs in 5 days that's keeping me going.

aleve + caffeine + eye mask (the frozen kind -- or frozen cucumbers) + nap

That worked wonders for me when I started Atkins. I was seriously detoxing as a major carb addict.

I didn't have any Atkins Flu symptoms the 2nd time I started induction.

I am. I love lemon!

When I have pouch salmon, I add some lemon and olive oil

When I eat soup (chicken and salad veggies w/herbs) I add lemon juice before eating

When I eat salads, I add lemon. My favorite lately is mayo, olive oil, lemon juice, parmesan, garlic salt, pepper, and oregano all mixed together. I use it as a dressing and toss my salad greens with it. Yum.

Sometimes I'll just drink the lemon juice w/some salt, but I try not to do that too often since I tend to retain water.

On occassion I'll squeeze a lemon in water and add splenda for some lemonade. Not too often though, since I tend to use up my lemon "limit" fast.

I don't have a recipe, but if I use ranch or bleu cheese, I'll use bottled dressing from the supermarket. I just make sure that it has <2g carbs and I limit my portions.

I am a caesar girl, though.

Try the recipe help forum. They always have a lot of true/tried recipe suggestions.

I'm going to try the '72 because it's the first one I tried back when it first came out and it worked then. LOL, of course I was a LOT younger. I think I wasted 2 days because I thought I could have cream cheese and I had that both days and had over the limit on carbs (also ate spinich last night) Old memory isn't quite what it used to be. Glad I found this thread to remind me what I need to be doing.

That is your body detoxing from carbs. It'll pass and I had those symptoms too when I was on Atkins 72 Induction. Take a B-Complex vitamin for weakness and magnesium for headaches and nausea.

Lori,
It is common until the carbs leave your system. Wait a week - your appetite should diminish greatly if you stick on plan.

I just ate until I wasn't hungry anymore. Usually had eggs for snacks. Or leftover meat with some cheese or something. Two days in I was not feeling hungry at all on small portions of food.

Add more fat. That usually keeps my hunger away.
Also, if you're using processed products, check for sugar.
Sugar is hidden in everything.
Carb creep.

This is my 4th day in and I had a hard time getting all my breakfast down. Just not hungry. I'm also feeling like my backside is dragging, but I know that will pass in a few days.

Question about the salads

Here is a question I have always had, and I believe this is from Atkins 72. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

We can have 2 cups of salad greens, which all I can afford (and I know it isn't wonderful) is iceberg lettuce. Can't always afford that either. It says then you can have 1 cup of other veggies, as listed, if you don't go over the 20 carbs with the greens. Is that correct? So I could actually just have a very small salad with my lunch and a very small salad with my supper?

When we tried this before, we were eating so many green beans, we got sick and tired of those, so we rarely eat green beans anymore. (we have a farm and grew those). So what other kinds of veggies that I can grow can I have, and how much of them?

We plan on starting tomorrow on this, and will probably make some mistakes, but I want to do this right.

I think you are thinking of the newer version of Atkins.
In the DANDR (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution) book the recommendation is that you eat 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of other veggies, but it does NOT limit you to just those 3 cups. You can eat MORE veggies, as long as you are within your 20g carb allowance for DANDR Induction. Most of your carbs should come in the form of veggies. You can also subtract fiber to come up with net carbs.

For Atkins 72 induction, you are ONLY allowed to have 2 cups (loose fitting) of salad veggies during induction and you can NOT subtract fiber. What you eat, is what you count. Fiber and all.

The older Atkins is more strict.
The newer Atkins is more flexible.

If you want to do the newer Atkins, check under Atkins Induction or Atkins Nutritionals on the message board. You might find better information there.

Nope

I want to do Atkins 72, so I'll stay here. I did go back to the beginning and start reading the very first posts and I see the difference. I'm going to print that first few out and post it on my fridge so I can do that.

I haven't lost very well with the newer version, so I'm going to try the older version.

Thanks! Hope I can stay!

Hi, I just wanted to join in for the April Challenge, now that it's almost over . I've been reading the boards for a few weeks now and finally jumped on the wagon Monday. So far I have dropped 2.5 lbs. of water 2 days in a row, which is cool! No induction flu and today my appetite was barely there. I am making the sno cones I saw in other threads, and those are my only "treat". Love those things!!! I plan on staying on induction for a few weeks or more so I'll be around. Oh, and checked for ketosis and measured as moderate today. So far so good, hasn't been hard at all. Thanks to everyone that posts here, it's great support.

For you water drinkers out there:

This is from the first page of this thread.

The Rules of Original Atkins

The Diet Revolution Rules (Level One)
1. Don’t count calories (so why are so many counting them?)
2. Eat as much of the allowed foods as you need to avoid hunger.(see, no limit)
3. Don’t eat when you are not hungry.
4. Don’t feel you must finish everything on your plate just because it is there.
5. Drink as much water or calorie free beverages as thirst requires. Don’t restrict fluids… but it is not necessary to force them either.(It doesn't say anything about 1/2 your body weight in water)
6. Frequent small meals are preferable.
7. If weakness results from rapid weight loss, you may need salt.
8. Everyday take a high-strength multivitamin pill.
9. Read the labels on “low-calorie” drinks, syrups, desserts,. Only those with no carbohydrate content are allowed.

Net carbs were not part of the program and certainly not frankenfoods (aka Atkins bars and the like)

I started a few weeks ago, slipped up, and now am picking up where I left off. I never moved up (5 extra carbs and so forth)...I pretty much stuck to protein, fat, and 2 c. salad veggies.
You can technically add it in after week 1 since there are no specific rungs to A'72. Just limit it to 5-8 grams of carbs worth & make sure it doesn't stall you or cause cravings.
