This is so exciting!
I have never ever blogged before but was googling low carb and found you guys. I have been a low carber on and off (of course) for 7 or 8 years. I have lots of good tips but I have burned out on all of them. What is the Atkins 72? Does that mean following the rules of his book in 1972? Clever name if that is what it means.
I usually hit about 200 pounds (I am 5'8'') and start dieting but have started taking Lexapro the past year for anxiety and have bulked up to 230. It is so hard to stay focused! Do you guys find the most success having less than 20 carbs a day? I am dropping the ball by not worrying about water and just focusing on carbs? I need to let myself have something bad so I have been drinking diet coke and H2O with every meal. I am a mom of a 4 and 2 year old and I feel so overweight for me - size 18 and was a size 6 when I got married 8 years ago. Lots of life crap happenend in between and life is now perfect other than the weight issue dragging me down. I am a prime candidate for diabetes 2 and need a fix. Any advice/recipes would be so terrific...thanks for helping me get back on track. T |

Good Evening!
Okay, today did not go as planned - we had a gathering at my Mom's and I was too weak to do this.....tomorrow we go to Dad's and then Sunday - NADA! All done with the Holiday Stchuff! On New Year's Eve we will go to my friend's to spend the night, but she is super sensitive to everyone, so I won't or shouldn't have an issue there! Sooo, it is looking like Sunday is the day. I had waaaaay less carbs than normal though, so that was good.....I will try again tomorrow, but trying stops on Monday and doing begins!! Anyways, I'm hopping off of here Smile Darlah |

IT WORKS!
I've been reading this thread for the last week or so and decided to do the 1972 version about three days ago.
I've been working at eating low carb 30g sometimes up to 45, and I've had constant chocolate cravings. Dark mind you, but still... Well, as soon as I cut the carbs down to around zero all the cravings were gone!!! It's really quite amazing! It had been such a struggle before. And I was keeping the carb level pretty darn low. Mostly eating green vegies with meat or eggs. About 12 years ago I did the Atkins 1992 version with great success and no cravings. What I see now, that I was doing then, was not eating very much vegies and mostly eating meat or eggs. Not that I recommend always eating that way, but when I need to burn my fat stores in a relaxed and non craving way, this is the way that works for me! Anyway, I just wanted to share with you two that I've just begun this WOE and I'm very happy with it. I actually sat next to my husband and friend last night while we watched a movie and they ate ice cream and I had ZERO desire to have any!!! Super low carb works the way Dr. Atkins said it would, God Bless him. I hope to hear more experiences from others! Eden |

Hi everyone,
![]() I had started the New Diet Revolution on 2/16 and only lost 2 lbs and 8 1/2 " body (alot off my already thin arms so on Monday, I'm planning to do the Atkins 1972 version and ordered the book today.Five years ago, I did the Atkins 72 and got into ketosis and lost the desired weight quickly. After all these weeks on the later, revised method, my keto stick is still showing no color! I have been under 20 carbs every day, strict on the plan, between 1200-1500 calories (not that I was watching my calories) with a few adult drinks, that's it. So, something's wrong. I've been enjoying the Atkins woe alot better than all of the other diets I've been on. Now, I feel I must go to bootcamp. Hopefully it won't be much longer than a week. Hoping the 1972 version will work. Glad to see some people are still doing it.

AIM,
That's what I fear - not being able to lose unless my carbs are very low. It's very limiting to eat just meat and a few pieces of lettuce and celery. My doctor is sending me lab papers to check my thyroid in case that's the problem. How long have you been doing 1972 version and are you in ketosis? The 3 lbs you gained could it be water weight? I think it takes 3500 calories to gain 1 lbs. |

oh it is for sure water weight. I had home made hot sauce with butter and hot sauce. Excpet I used to be 130 when i was up in weight
![]() I have a thyroid problem and take armour. I have been doing 72 for a week. However, i was on atkins in 98-2004 and lost to 125. I was smoking and drinking alot though and i think i smoked rather than ate alot as well. |

Congrats Aim on quitting smoking.
That's my goal. To lose some weight so I feel comfortable to quit. I know I'm going to gain some so I'd like some lead way. Quitting is stressful enough without having to stress about weighing heavier than I am now. Does the thyroid meds usually help you lose weight? |

Lofty,
Well, if you want, we can keep it alive and running! ![]() I was on the later Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution from 2/16 up until last Saturday. The reason I decided to kick it up is because during those 3 weeks, I only lost 3lbs, then 2lbs. I did lose 8 1/2" total body which is pretty good. Five years ago, I did the Atkins 72 and lost more weight and quicker. So, I decided to make the switch. In 4 days of 1972 Atkins, I lost 6 lbs. That little bit of difference in eating made a big difference in my metabolism. What is your story and why are you going on this woe? |

I'll help keep this thread going with you gals! I used to visit this website in 2004-05. Started Atkins Feb 2004 at 250, got down to 175. Life changed a lot and I got back up to a miserable 228. started atkins all over again last monday the 16th and today the 23rd I am 220.4!
Question-what is 72atkins and how does it differ from the new weight loss revolution? Last edited by chicklet91472; 03-24-2009 at 09:42 AM.. |

Hi, I think I should try '72 Atkins this time, so I will hanging around the thread, too. In 2005, I lost 35 lbs on Atkins New, and maintained it until recently. I was quite content with this WOE for 4 yrs. I quit smoking (10/08), and had hyperthyroid treatment in Jan, and have now gained the weight back. I didn't change what I ate, probably just ate just more of it. Anyway, I restarted Induction, and found that only maintained my weight, no wt loss!

I believe starting with Atkins 72 is the best way to go. It is very important that people buy the 1972 Book and read every word and follow it to the T. I don't know how old you are but I am 49 yrs old and peri-menopausal. My metabolism has slowed down. I started in Feb just doing the later version and lost 8 1/2 " and 2 lbs. The lbs you lose in the beginning are water weight and the inches are actually fat. But I was no near ketosis on the sticks under the newer 2002 plan. So, I kicked it up a notch and lost 6 lbs under Atkins 72 in 4 days. So, water weight was there all along and eating the hgher carbs the newer version allows did not render me the results I was looking for. I have been eating healthy whole foods for 5 yrs now. Gained 10 lbs doing healthy, balanced w/carbs fruit, veggies and lean meat. I am carb sensistive and hypergycemic since in my 20's. Had pregnancy diabetes and got rid of it. Hypergycemia is a pre-curser to diabetes and the 1972 Atkins books explains it very well. I take alot of vitamins, calcium, magesium and need salt. While I was doing the healthy balanced eating, I used only sea salt - not good enough. My body was craving iodine. I was getting dizzy spells. Now with regular salt, no more dizziness. It's a process that requires patience. You will learn about your body like no other diet. I am convinced that it's the only way of eating for me. I've done the Blood Type Diet, South Beach, 6 week body makeover, the over 35 woman's diet, Auyvedic Diet and have had NO results. With low carb, I feel better mentally, energetically and now I am not bloated nor am I hungry. I think you've made the right choice and good luck. |
