Hey Tanner,

Yes, I did Atkins 72 with some Kimkins influence (lower fat/calories). It has worked SO well! When I did it in 1976, and then again in 1997 it also worked like a charm. Im planning this time on keeping the weight off even longer than then 10 yrs the first time and 5 the second. So there!

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I have just read this thread from page 1-11...I feel like I know you all so well!

I promise to get through the rest of the thread later, but I didn't want to wait to introduce myself.

I am a mom and wife. DH and I have 3 great kids, and we each have 2 jobs. I was lucky enough to stay home with the kids before they went to school, and now I work at their school, so that's a blessing too!! My part time job is as a dance teacher/choreographer, so I feel so happy to be working as my jobs are very fulfilling...that said...I am pooped alot...BUT, who isn't??

I have lost 16 pounds in 5 weeks on Atkins, but am now ready to do
Atkins 72. I ordered my book yesterday and have printed out all the great info shared at the beginning of this thread.

I never cheat and am really looking forward to the simplicity of 72. I am also looking forward to the caring and support here. I hope to be able to lend a bit of advice if I can as well.

Gotta run to sing at Mass, but will check in later with my daily menu to see what you all think!

Peace

Welcome Jaimie!

So do you have ideas about how Atkins 72 will be different from Atkins DANDR?
You might consider posting some of your menus if you want ideas

I think the 72 plan works the very best. One of the main differences is that you dont subtract fiber from your daily carb totals and there were no bars/shakes when he wrote the first book.

We all look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Bella,
Thanks for the welcome!

I think '72 is a more "clean" way to eat and I like that it seems that the people following it are ok with not eating all the time. I don't like to eat if I am not hungry. I am also looking to lose a bit faster. I am very pleased with 16 pounds so far, but think a more streamlined diet would help me.

You have done such a good job! I am looking forward to learning alot here.

Peace

Morning, all!

Welcome, Jaimie! I'm going to be interested to see if your weight loss revs up now that you have switched. So far, you are doing impressively! Congrats!

I am on day three of induction. I am proud of myself because I haven't cheated nor have I been tempted. However, I am not seeing the scale move. This has me perplexed because I should at least be dropping some water weight, right?? I'm not freaked out or discouraged (wow!) over it though; I am going to hang in there.

Fifi,

My experience is that it can take a few days to get the message to your body that something is different! So just keep doing what you are doing, drink lots of water, take your vitamins and stay on strict induction- no cheats!
And it will come off

Bella - thanks. I am going to take that advice to heart (and hips!).

I was just counting and today is actually Day 4. Not that it matters so much, but I am pleased in that this is not a struggle. LOL

Oh Fifi: I'm so happy you are sticking with it. I agree with the statement that '72 doesn't make you eat if you are not hungry. I could never understand some people saying "oh you have to eat more".....

KUTGW and don't worry about the scale... It will come!

Hi Cher,
That was my biggest reason for checking out Atkins '72, because I was confused by all the posts telling folks to "eat" to break a stall. I understand that you don't want your body in starvation mode...but I believe that to get into starvation mode would have to be a prolonged very minimal, almost fast-like pattern. I saw some of you fabulous women here doing very well on '72. You have all inspired me!!

Well I have kept my calories under 1000 and lost 58 lbs in 4 plus months,
so stall at all. I think it depends on your metabolism.

I came in on Atkins in the late 90's so basically grew into the 2002 version..
Not sure what would work better for this 48 yo...

Happy Monday, all! I so wanted to stay in bed today instead of heading to work. LOL

I decided to skip the scale for a while. I think part of my problem might be I am eating too much. So, I am going to count my calories for now and see what happens. It's working for Bella, it could work for me!

I'll check in with everyone later. Have a good day!

Hi,

So today I added in oatmeal for the 1st time, and also had some strawberries with my cottage cheese snack. My total carbs were 25/6 for the day- they have been about 15 total for months, so this is a big step! I will let you all know how it goes...I expect to keep losing slowly over the next month, maybe a pound a week to get 5 below goal for a safety net

Hello, everyone! I had another good day yesterday and feel great. Afraid the scale is not reflecting my hard work though.

Bella - would you mind giving me a sample menu of what you were eating before you recently added in more carbs? Please let me if you have posted something like this before and I'll do a search.

Sounds good Bella ..... it great you are doing it slowly and monitoring what it does to you. Within 3 days you should be able to see if it was a positive move or affected you adversely. Also monitor your appetite to see if it has increased. I'm very curious to hear the effects .... Keep us posted!

Fifi: Good for you on staying on track. Don't worry about the scale - it will come. If seeing it not move affects you negatively - stay off the scale and just go by how your clothes fit. I'm sure you are seeing some results in that area.

Have a great day everyone and I will definitely have a good one as it's my birthday today....... Going to a Mexican restaurant today and will just have the seared meat/veggies - Fijitas (no chips and no margaritas).....

Good morning,

I have Fifi but if you like here is one:
B: 1/2 can water based tuna with tMayo/1/2 pickle OR deviled eggs (2)
OR 1/2 flax muffin per lowcarb recipe and 1 ounce cheese OR 1/4 cup
cottage cheese
L: Salad with 2-3 ounces grilled chicken, 1 cup lettuce or spinach, feta,
3 kalamara olives, sprinkle of low carb dressing
snack: sugar free jello (small cup size), 5-10 almonds, 1/4 cup cottage cheese
D: Protein such as 3 ounces of salmon, steak, OR chicken. Grilled veggies
1/4 cup mushrooms, 3 strips grilled peppers OR 1/2 broccoli OR another low carb veggie.
Lots of water, diet Hansen's root beer with a splash of cream, Good Earth Tea,
1 cup coffee with a little cream and 1 spenda in the morning- if I had coffee later I sweetened it with DaVincis.

Use fitday every single day to track your food!

I see you are on day 6, so after day 7 you can add in the cottage cheese and almonds...

Cheryl, I did ok yesterday and actually was less hungry BUT I had alot of Gas! So Im not sure what caused that....I did have strawberries and a flax muffin late in the day so it might have been the combination I cant imagine that having 25 grams per day is going to stall me out on loss (I want to lose 5 below goal so thats 7 more) and think I can probably eat about 40-50 a day to maintain but I need to reach that slowly.

Bella

Oh thank you Bella ..... and YOU are my inspiration. You've done so well. I agree with you I can't see where keeping your carbs around 25 will stop you at all. Now the gas is another issue ..... hmmmmm!!!! Could be the flax - but you've been eating that all along haven't you.

Again, thank you Bella.

We are each other's biggest fans

I have been eating th flax for a couple weeks but not with fruit.
Maybe that's the culprit?

I finally ordered my '72 book, should be here in a couple of days. In the meantime, I'm sure you guys know the answer. Can you stay on the first week of virtually no carbs for a while like the newer version or not? It's taken a while for me to get kick started and I wondered about staying on induction.

Happy Birthday Cheryl!
You are a fantastic role model! Thanks for making yourself available and sharing your hard won knowledge!

Bella, IMHO, the fruit/flax combo might be the culprit.
Thanks for posting your menu. I am new, and trying to re-read all the old posts get a bit confusing

Lisa, I am waiting for my book too, and would love to know the answer to your question.

Fifi, hope you are having a good day!

Peace

Hi again!

Yep, I think that the flax muffin and fruit might have been deadly
I actually ate them about an hour apart but it didnt seem to make much difference!

There are some folks who say fruit should be eaten alone...maybe they are right!

I stayed on induction level for 4 months and I think Cheryl did too- is that right? It worked great for me, Dr. A says it is fine. Now adding back in when at goal is the trick, and has to be done very carefully. I think I would advise starting to add in when 10 pounds from goal- here I am saying that! Did I do that? NO! Did I say I would? YES! I just didnt want my loss to stop. Honest truth.

Cheryl: !!! You have been getting me through this, and I thank you!! Enjoy your special day and that Mexican food! I appreciate your words of encouragement!

Bella: thanks for posting the menu! Thanks for the advice, too. I will really track everything the next few days and see what happens.

Jaime: so sweet of you to think of me - I am doing pretty well. I actually feel great physically...hoping that is a sign of things to come. How are you?

Lisa: someone probably already directed you to it, but just in case - be sure to check out page one of this sticky. It has some great info right from the book.

Aw Fifi, thanks for asking.

I am ok. In a bit of a stall, so feeling a little bummed out. I am also pre-tom, and although it is much better for me this month (been doing Atkins for 5 weeks) I am just feeling a bit bloated. I don't cheat, so I am not worried about my being bummed out sending me to binge on high carb treats...it's just a drag. I am looking forward to receiving my '72 book and reading it cover to cover...I know it will give me a new perspective.

Hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!
