I am sure the '73 book is very similar to '72 - I can't believe they would have changed it that much. Maybe it's just a reprint ... here's hoping. |

Cheryl or whoever can comment:
I've been following '72 to the T for 4 days and no whoosh. I must say I've never NOT been LC, I am older (turning 59) and have lost almost 90 lbs, meaning I was very overweight, and getting closer to goal (meaning I don't need many calories. . .for all of the above reasons) Should I stick to the '72 longer or go to Kimmers/Kimkins? My reading says the 3 day experiment means no cheese, low fat, and the Kimkins is approximently the same as the '72, but with more emphasis on low fat. Am I missing something? I know I can't expect a whoosh! but a little nudge wouldn't hurt. I also haven't bought ketostix. . .relying on following the plan. . .but I haven't experienced the loss of hunger. . . Pardon my "being in a hurry!" I don't mind giving up the LC treats if I get results! But I want to know it is working! |

Can you post what you are eating? It sounds like maybe you are having some "hidden carbs" somewhere. How much more weight do you want to lose? We'll figure it out ..... just give me some idea on what you are consuming... |

Cheryl, I'm on the same page with you. . .I already entered my stuff in Fitday, and I was up up up on calories, okay on carbs. . .too many RR's, and they are 90 cals a piece. . .and I ate 6 (using 2 for a sandwich)--550 cals. I wasn't aware of. . .and I think with only 19 lbs to go I can't eat but about 1200 cal/day. . .and continue to loose, no matter how low the carbs.
The carbs were fine! I'm going to see what happens when I lower the cals. Is that what you recommend??? |

Ok I am starting this and doing it I hope by plan. During the first week can you eat Spinach? I am looking at the salad greens and it isn't listed so I will assume that means NO spinach.

Spinach is ok per my understanding if it is in a salad according to Kimkins.
I have been eating it in salad with no problems...but if youre not sure, wait until week 2 or 3. |

Hi Magna,
Im not sure about premaintenance, its a very tricky time as you want to keep losing but veerrry slowly! How many pounds do you have to lose? I think you might have to tweak this some to find out what really works. Dr. A says 1 pound MAX per week loss during the phase you are in! Bella |

Bella, not to worry, losing more than a lb. a week, for me. . .I want to loose 19, and some of them are relosing the lbs I put back on. . .
I will definitely keep on. . .keeping the carbs and the calories real. I had been keeping lc, but baking and cooking with a lot of things--carbquik, erith., xylitol, WPI, nut flours, nuts, coconut, and endulging DAILY in those kinds of treats. Plus I had added an oatmeal/flax/protein powder cereal in the a.m. for my heart. . .nice thought, but it was not working for me. . . |

Magna that's interesting. Im 22 pounds from goal one (160) with my permanent goal of 150. I was thinking I would start premaintenance at 160-
but that's with just 10 to lose. Does that seem right? Cheryl are you around? (she is a wise expert here!). I dont plan on slowing down my loss until Im closer to goal, but also want to be smart about it. Bella |

I'd try to climb the carb ladder, but watch carefully. The doc told me I could add 5 grams back in and see if I was still in ketosis and losing. If I was then I could add maybe a few more grams back in. When the stick stopped changing colors - I was suppose to cut back.

![]() Im at about 12 total carbs per day. I added cottage cheese (1/4 cup) this week and most of my carbs are from veggies. When did you start adding in carbs? I could try adding in another 5? Bella |

I've been following your progress and I must say that I am very impressed. I have switched to A72 from DANDR. Since the end of January, I've only lost about 12 lbs and tomorrow will be 6 weeks since I started DANDR On this woe I was eating all sorts of meats/chicken/seafood of course, eggs, veggies, cream cheese or mozzarella sticks, sour cream, salad with appropriate dressings, bacon, avocado, sugar free tomoto sauces...etc When I switched to A72 just recently, I cut out the veggies (except my salad which consist of lettuce that is sometimes sprinkled with feta cheese), cut out the avocado and the tomato sauce. For the past couple of days since I began, I've still been eating cheese (mozzarella sticks) or the kind with the wax around it like Cheryl has said, bacon, eggs, all sorts of meats/chicken/seafood ..i still have my salads with appropriate dressings, butter/margarine/oil, and sf jello. oh - i also have the occasional sf breath strip (the listerine paper kind to control my bad breath!!) I am actually thinking of making the cheese chips - made with the singles cheese, but not too sure if that's A72 friendly or not. I want to stay on A72 Induction until I reach goal. I was 187...now at 174..and would eventually like to be 135. I see that in 7 weeks you've lost 28!!! Can you tell me the things that you ate when you started doing A72? I found it easy to give up the veggies because I can still eat my meals with salad, but the only thing that keeps me going are those cheesestring mozzarella sticks (which I'm presuming are not allowed...along with cream cheese...) Any input? I'm very proud of your progress...and would like some guidance. Trying to keep on track ![]()

Hi Mary,
Thanks so much for the kudos and Im happy to help! I think the most basic advice I could give you is to use fitday to track your food intake. I keep my calories under 1000 and they usually are more like 850. I also exercise 5 times a week. The way I have reduced my calories is to use fats such as mayo and cheese sparingly. Before when I have done Atkins 72 I didnt watch that at all and lost 18 pounds in 2 months, so it does seem to make a difference. I eat cucumber slices, a stick of mozarella (just one!), a sugar free jello, 1/2 can of tuna if Im hungry in between meals which I often am! I followed the rules of induction exactly for 2 weeks which meant I ate eggs, protein (more chicken and fish than red meat for less calories), 2 cups of salad per day, kalamata olives and feta for flavor, Ken's casaer dressing (low carb). I also weigh my food and keep my protein to 3-4 ounces per meal. No faux foods ie bars, shakes. No bargaining with sweet treats! Avocado is ok after induction but I only use 1/3 at a time. I also eat cooked mushrooms cooked or spinach every other day (one or the other). I do use a splash of sugar free syrup in my coffee every day, and also have a cup of coffee with 1 splenda packet and a "little" cream (a tsp) in the a.m. Why dont you post a couple of typical days of menus and I can look at them and give you feedback? Include how many carbs you are eating! You can do it! Bella

Bella, you are now one of my inspirations!!!!
I'm definitely cutting back to less than 1000. . .and let's see!! Hunger is an issue. . .still for me too, but the busier I stay the better. Would you add in a Fiber Choice (the sugar free kind--a tablet that you can carry in your purse)? Those are supposed to help hunger. As is 2 T. of Z-Trim in a drink (Crystal Light?) and ice cubes in a blender. Those I"ve read of on these forums. Don't know if they fit in with your eating plan or Atkins '72. . .What do you think? I'm searching for answers myself! |
