Do you have the new book, the one with the 2002 copyright? Or maybe Atkins for Life?

If you do I'd go by the book, personally. Literally.

Everytime I made my own modifications, I'd stall. Learn from my mistakes!

You can get the '72 version from ebay or somewhere like that for just a couple of dollars. IMO, it is the best version and worth buying.

I'm curious too. I have the 1992 version which I've read through many, many times. I've never bothered to familiarize myself with the current Atkins diet. So what are the substantial differences between the original (72) version and the 92 version? Is it less carbs? Only lettuce as opposed to lc salad vegies? Please let us know what makes the 72 version extra special.

Thanks!

the 72 version has 1 week of induction instead of 2, BUT it is very low carbs for that one week. if I remember right you get 3 cups of lettuce with oil dressing a day. that was pretty much it for carbs. BUT, they also didn't count carbs in cheese, coffee, cream, etc. at that time.

the first time I went on this I had the 72 version.

The '72 and I think even the '92 (I have not read it) has more limits on cream and things like that. They also don't have all of the net carb counting. In the '72 you start at "biologically zero" for your carb count and move up from there. There may be other differences, but it's been awhile since I've read it. Maybe I should reread it.

I started with the 72 version and remember less limits on cream. they counted it as 0 carbs instead of having a little bit in it. yes, they called it virtually 0 carbs, but they also didn't count the trace carbs in the lettuce (salad), coffee, cheese or as I said the cream. so actually, I was getting more carbs than 0 even though I was following the plan.

I bought it off ebay for 1 cent. There are a few differences. No NET carb counting! Less cheeses and creams. Also only eat 2 cups of veggies and not three! I do the m/e and Atkins 72' and I have started losing faster and more inches. I also have No cravings and No appitite like on Induction from the new book.

Jennifer - I'm with you. I do a cross between M/E and the '72 plan. I lose well this way. I don't lose on later versions. I know others do, but I don't. Plus, the lack of cravings and greatly decreased appetite ROCK!!! And it is so easy to follow. I am tempted to cheat much less on this plan.

I lose better with higher fat intake and it also helps in the bm department! On m/e i do not add in fats like olive oil, but I do use very little mayo in chicken salad for taste. i cook in Pam spray also, but on days when I carb up or do 72' I eat dressings and other fats! It's what works for me!
