Binge Eating Disorder... anyone else?

After months of putting off going to the doctor I finally went to an appointment last night and they think alongside depression I have binge eating disorder.

I was a little taken aback, hadn't realised (being naive I guess) that there were other eating disorders besides anorexia and bulemia, figured I'm fat - I can't have an eating disorder!

I've been doing JUDDD since 27th April and haven't binged since then.. my Doctor has referred me to a specialist clinic & I should get an appointment in the next few weeks.

Just wondering if there's others on here who've been diagnosed/have experience of etc,. x

Genie: That is interesting... do you feel that the binge eating is physical or emotional? I really feel I have a binge eating disorder but I feel it is physical more so than emotional. Maybe I am in denial...I don't know. I just know I have not been able to go more than 3 days without eating carbs. 14 days for you binge free...that is awesome...I hope to be able to post something like that soon. It is day 1 for me.

Sarah- I feel like my binging is also more physical and psychological. Eating carbs make me binge. I know what you mean when you say that you can't go more than 3 days without carbs. It is difficult to stop but very much possible. I have recently went to zero carbs by eating meat/eggs/fish/fats and I have no desire to binge (so far), keeping my fingers crossed. I think if you eat enough protein and fats for few days you can get through this.
There are quite few of us on this board dealing with this issue. See the links I posted above. Stop by if you feel like it. It helps to have support

I definitely struggle with binge eating. I have been binge free for 3 days now and am getting the thoughts/desires that usually lead to a binge. I am trying to think positively and stay busy!

Are you hungry?

Can you eat some allowable low carb food?
(something with protein and fat?)

If not, stay here and post, or do something else distracting.
Hang in there.

I am staying strong! I have been keeping busy and walked 2 miles this morning and 3 this evening. I have a menu I want to stick to but will certainly eat some protein if I get too hungry

Sarah - I'm not really sure, I know it became out of control after I had surgery on my foot in 2009. I started gaining weight, couldn't exercise, became ill and started divorce proceedings against my then husband. Over the next few years I suffered more and more with my health and my weight has reflected that gaining almost 5 stone (70lbs) in less than 4 years.

Marika - We can do this girl!!

Jeanie - Are you OK? Did you manage to beat the feelings?

I am right there with you Sarah. I was binge free for 2 weeks. Starting fresh today without counting calories. I was doing JUDD and I think this was making me binge. So now I am eating low carb and not counting calories.
Hope we have better week ahead.

Good luck with your restart. Counting carbs seems more straightforward to me.
I don't think Judd would ver work for me.

How are you getting on Marika..

... and everyone else?

Feeling rough today and it's a JUDDD Down Day for me, don't think I'll have trouble sticking below my calorie target of 500c today as even the thought of food is making me feel sick!

Hi all! Can I join this thread? I have recently discovered through many failed attempts of dieting that there was "something" else working against me. NO ONE goes all day making good food choices, eating very little, happy to do it and then bam, at night eats 1000+ calories!!! Unless, there is something else wrong.

So I have been digging deep into what is sabotaging me and what has been keeping me overweight my whole life. I have come to the following conclusions and am sure there are more yet to be discovered.

1. I emotionally eat for everything!!!
2. I do not eat when hunger or until "not hungry". I over-indulge every time just because...
3. Medications are effecting my appetite/cravings.
4. Chemicals in the processed foods are creating appetite/craving issues.
5. I am addicted to sugar.
6. Any form of refined carb sets me off into a binge... every time!

and I am sure there are more. But I am working on this and would love to count my bingefree/no lns'ing days along with you all!

Blessings
Michelle

You are most welcome to join, Michelle. ONe thing I noticed in your post was this:

NO ONE goes all day making good food choices, eating very little, happy to do it and then bam, at night eats 1000+ calories!!! Unless, there is something else wrong.

Could it be that you are not eating enough during the day and you are at least partly eating from hunger in the evening? I am not saying this is the case, or to negate other items on your list, but just raising the question.

Hi Bella, it is a fair question. I am doing the HCG diet so eating very little is part of the plan. However, the hcg is releasing my stored fat into my bloodstream, therefore, no hunger issues after a few days. So when I wrote that I eat very little and glad to it is also including the fact that I am NOT feeling hungry but binge anyhow. There is a big difference. And to add, even if i ate from hunger - off plan - there is still no call to eat 1000+ calories at a sitting.

Welcome, Michelle!
I binge any time during the day. I have read that evening binges could be due to skipping or having not enough for breakfast. I wonder if that could be your problem, perhaps? I usually eat high protein breakfast and can binge 2 hours after, so the big protein breakfast is not working in my case.
My binges happen during second half of my cycle. So I am only good for 10-14 days each month

tobelowcarber... I am sure it plays a part but honestly, I LOVE food! I LOVE eating! And I LOVE carbs!!! All of which, when not in check, leads me to binge whether emotionally, physically or pyschologically. Believe me, for me I believe it is more pyschological than anything. That is why my latest book purchase includes 4 books on binge eating.

I know, I love food too much too. I am also a darn good cook , which I am sure does not help. Can you please share the titles of the books.
