I'm on day 3 here no alcohol. I'm feeling better. Emotionally too. My anxiety isn't as bad. I have been eating a lot of peanuts, but I figure that's better than alcohol lol. One thing at a time.

When I'm not drinking alcohol, I always have a glass of ice and cans or bottles of carbonated drinks (yes I drink a lot of soda) beside me and it fills a void. Walmart has these diet 2 liters that help me the most. They are $0.84 each and they have like cherry limeade, lemonade, peach lemonade, strawberry lemonade.

I also like to get the fruity flavors of DaVincis like peach and get carbonated water or club soda and pour over ice. It's really refreshing.

Alright ladies, everyone have a successfull AF day. Try to just get through today.

I think that's sort of what you have to do, not that I'm an expert or anything, lol. But I know for myself that I get an instant panicked and deprived feeling but looking at each day is easier. Like I keep thinking on the weekend I am drinking. That so far is helping me. I am not liking the idea of not having wine. Does anyone know the lowest carb wine? I know Jorge cruise who is way against sugar recommends Kendal Jackson as ok, thought I don't think he means the whole bottle. It's hard to find carb counts. And I've also heard that clear unflavored alcohol is they way to go but they say run /whiskey has no carbs so I wondered what the deal is with that.

I like Michelle's idea about the club soda and a fruity flavoring. I am definitely an "umbrella drink" kind of gal! I am trying not to have artificial sweeteners with the exception of stevia.. I am sitting here sipping on a little red wine in a tall glass with seltzer water, lime and some stevia. I am confident Michelle's drink idea would satisfy my "taste" craving. Maybe I need to pick what's worse and just have the artificial sweeteners until I can kick the wine flavor in my drink. There is certainly no buzz, so it's not that.

I must say though this is so much less than I usually drink! It's wonderful not to have a dull headache (not a hangover headache - I haven't had one of those in 25 years) in the evening. I am on the right track.

Keep up the great work!

Wow everyone is doing so good LOVE the umbrella idea! Tonight was hard for me got on the phone with my sister and she was having cocktails. I ended up mixing this diet cranberry drink I got from Aldis with some grapefruit selzer with out the vodka in a fancy glass and it was good. Made it through! I'm tryin not to have too much artificial sweeteners too but it's just a bit.

Made it through 3 days. Tonight will be a test - my softball team is in the playoffs and I know they will want to go for a beer after the game and I really want to go and have one with them. I have been doing so good on plan with food and exercise and for me not having a beer or drink 3 days at a time is awesome, I really don't know what to do - I can say that I will go and have a diet coke or tea but I know what will happen when I get there!

I had three margaritas last night. Lc. It didn't really do anything. I lasted three days this time. Pushing for four or five this time or more. I guess slow and steady wins the race.

Three days at a time is a good start. That deserves a couple of margaritas (J/K)

I had 4 rum and diet cokes last night and I feel horrible (physically) today - lol. So I guess 3 days is as long as I can go.

I had a stressful day and had 2 1/2 glasses of wine yesterday. 1 1/2 in the afternoon... I was tense because I had to give a speech at Toastmasters (a speech club) last night and I just had to calm my nerves.. and, the second when I went out to dinner afterwards with a couple of my fellow Toastmasters. I didn't eat much yesterday since I was so busy preparing for my speech, so carb wise and calorically I came in fine for the day.

Tonight I am going out for dinner with friends so I know I will have 1 or 2 glasses of wine.. Tomorrow I have a date day at the casino with DH. We always drink WAY too much when we are there because of the free drinks. So we are going to make a pact that we will only have one glass of wine an hour for 4 hours and then we''ll have dinner. It still sounds like a lot, but believe me it is a huge reduction from the doubles every 30-45 minutes that we had been doing for the last couple of months. Now, if only we could win some $$!

Great job for Michelle, Monica, Snowdancer, and Leaving30Something for your AF streaks. Don't beat yourself up! You did great!!

I feel ya sister. Last night I had 4-5 vodka mixers. I feel fine today. Except emotionally for knowing I drank lol. Lets try to get through today together huh?

So this morning I looked up vitamins for alcohol cravings. It says B-Complex vitamins are good for it, as well as niacin (which I'm not going to take), Vitamin C, and L-Glutamine. Now L-Glutamine i've seen on these boards a lot for sugar and carb cravings. People say as soon as they get the craving they take it and it helps a lot. I always wondered if it would work for alcohol.

See I may sound crazy, but I'm hoping at least one of you will know what I'm talking about, but I get this "taste" in my mouth for alcohol. That's my craving. That's when I want to drink. I can be sitting there fine in the afternoon and for no reason I get that "taste" in my mouth and I want alcohol. So I'm going to try to find some L-Glutamine at my other drug store today.

I did buy a B-complex vitamin and I started taking it today. We will see if it helps. If not, I read that most people who drink are deficient in B-complex vitamins so it can't hurt. I also take Sam-E for anxiety/mental wellness and the B-complex I bought said it promotes mental wellness as well.

At any rate, I got this swanky new water bottle that my vodka came in last night. I just wanted to pour the vodka out and put water in it so I could drink it lol.

I heard that 2000 mg L-Glutamine and 200mg of Chromium help reduce cravings of sugar also - someone on the board posted it. I think I will try.

I think the reason I feel so bad is because it was hard liquor - I'm a beer drinker I can drink beer all day long - but I thought Rum and Diet Soda has 0 carbs so go for it :-(

Michelle - we will get through today together.

Well heck! My sister knows I'm trying to low carb and she came over for dinner last night and bought a 6 pack of beer just for me - I tried to resist - I really, really did - then I had 4 of them :-( Darn Miller 64 and darn her for trying to sabotage me! Of course we all really know the blame is on me, I chose to drink those beers.

Hey there girls.. On the "drinking" forums on the internet L-Glut is definitely on the list of supplements to try. They suggest you take the kind that comes in powder form because it is faster acting and you put it right on your tongue. I have not tried it.. I only have the capsules and for some reason just don't think of it when I am trying not to drink.

I did have 2 glasses of wine when I was out to dinner yesterday with friends and it was planned, so I am fine with it. DH and I are having our date day at the casino today, so hopefully we'll keep our pact. I have every intention to.. I am doing well. I am in ketosis and losing about a pound a day. The holiday weight gain should almost be gone. I'll bring some snax in my purse to keep me from being hungry mid-afternoon. I will have to deal with the buffet, but my plan is a big salad with ranch dressing and 2 lobster tails and shrimp.. It's lobster feast tonight at the buffet!

Have a good day!

As an alcoholic, I congratulate y'all on the steps that you have taken. The first step is admitting that you cannot live without drinking alcohol. The second step is to WANT to do something about it.

I wish that I could say that I have overcome my addiction, but I can't. I drink 2-3 times a month. While that is better than the 3-4 times a week that I used to get drunk, my addiction still negatively affects my family, my work, and my life. I realize the repercussions more now than I did when I was either drunk or hungover all the time. I will eventually quit drinking (one way or the other). Hopefully sooner rather than later.

I went to AA for several months. AA didn't cure me (it can't, by itself, cure anyone), but it taught me many things which have helped me understand why I drink (mental and in some cases physical addiction), self-esteem issues, and the fallacy that I can actually control everything in my life.

I am by no means an expert, but I encourage anyone who thinks that they might be an alcoholic to check out the Big Book from AA:

Big Book On Line

While it didn't "cure" me, AA helped me understand my illness.

May God bless you all. Y'all are ALL so beautiful!

Wanting to stop. That is the hard part. I think it was the same with smoking I never wanted to stop, I just new I needed to. It took seeing a few close people getting cancer to want to stop. I have had drinks the last couple nights I'm mad at myself because it appears to be hindering my weight loss efforts. I'm trying to learn from it because at the time I make the drink I'm thinking its this special thing I'm doing for myself, my time, but when you look back its wasted time. Hoping to get back I track weekends are hard.

I would just like to take it or leave it. It has not ruined my life in the least bit, but I know I can be a healthier and thinner person if I cut down. I am glad AA has helped you bizbuyer! Blessings!

Just checking in... it's a lazy sunday with football on TV, I am cooking and it's cold outside. A bloody mary would have been perfect and I almost went out to get the makings of it.. If it were just me I would have... But, dh is trying to stick to wine and if the V was in the house it would tempt him too much. So, I got through it and am sipping on a homemade wine cooler with lots of ice and seltzer.. a little red wine, stevia and lime.. phew!

The weekends been to short as usual. And I have absolutely no will power when it comes to evening drinks. Sipping my 2nd vodka crystal light. Sitting here winding down wishing tomorrow wasn't Monday and I didn't have to live through another 5 days of driving, work, school activites, and all the other crap that makes me drink in the first place. And it's freaking freezing here. -20 this morning.

Having the same Sunday blues. Went to the package store and bought Gin cause I've heard that its the least processed alcohol not sure of its true or not. Anyway I thought for sure I would be drinking but was out and didn't start dinner till most 8. I held off and once I ate I was okay not having anything. I haven't been very good the past few days. Last night I had too much am then started picking at food I didn't need. Luckily not too much damage but its a slippery slope!

Snowdancer, here's a (((hug)))), sounds like you need it. The every day grind can get old can't it? I don't know how you younger gals do it - jobs, kids, etc. I never had kids and their activities to juggle.. Anyway, I get it - when it's the middle of winter (I also live in a cold area), we have a tendency to have SAD and just want to eat and drink the blues away... sigh...

And, a happy Monday to everyone else. A new week can be a fresh start if we want it to be! Personally, I stuck with smaller amounts of homemade wine coolers all last week and didn't give in at several occasions when I wanted hard drinks so badly. Today I am going to attempt drinking stevia sweetened lemonade or some fruity drink that Michelle mentioned last week. Although I am trying to eat as clean as I can, I have to pick the worse of two evils. And, I know cutting the booze is better for me. I am REALLY going to give it a go with the lemonade. I am not getting a buzz off the wine anyway, so why have it? It's just a habit that is uncomfortable to break. I have two outside social events this week where I can have some wine, and I'd really like to wait until then.

Have a super day friends!!

Hey guys. I'm here. Doing ok. Day 3 alcohol free. Which is my biggest struggle right now. Foods good. I actually have no desire to drink right now so that is good.

I went to the Dr. this morning because I've had a double ear infection for quite a while now, then I felt a lump between my ear and jaw Saturday and it really freaked me out (I'm a hypochondriac, everything is cancer in my mind. My mom is the same way lol) so I went ahead and went. She said it was my lymph nodes swollen because they have been trying to fight the infection for so long. I got a ton of antibiotics and ear drops I have to take. Also got my thyroid checked while I was there. I don't have insurance so I try not to go to the Dr. alot lol. At least it was just my lymph nodes swollen.

So this week I'm going to focus on staying AF and making sure my food is right. After TOM goes away I'll try to get back in the gym. Baby steps.

Hi all I've been trying for about a month to figure out how/what will help me lose weight. I have finally settled on low carb it really is easy for me,well easy is not the word but not as hard as counting every cal. There is just one thing I love my wine! I have tried to work it in to my diet but no. I know i have issues with drinking. So my plan is to try to go one day at a time. I drank last night and it really hit me hard.I hadn't drank in a couple days and was doing very good with keeping my carbs down. I feel horrible today. The other days I felt great. So today I will not drink. I need to tell my husband. That I don't want wine, beer or his crown royal in the house.
