Hi Sarah
I was diagnosed years ago with hypoglycemia. I can tell you this- after a carb binge I am exhausted and usually sleep for a few hours. I have always attributed lethargy/ exhaustion following the binge to excessive insulin release. Because I could count on getting a few hours sleep there were times I'd deliberately eat Oreos if in the throes of insomnia crazy I know
Anyway, eating a LC diet eliminates all of that for me.

Thanks for the feedback biochic. That is interesting what you said about the sleeping issue. I suffer from insomnia and when I do go on a binge I sleep better but then am foggy headed the next day. Almost feels like a hangover. I am really trying to keep from sugars. It is hard but I am trying to do without sugar or flour. Any tips you have would be appreciated.

Honestly the only success I've had has been with Atkins. I have to do the 2 week induction in order to "get clean" and then I move on from there. I have had success 3 times over the last 10 years only to return to my old eating habits at some point I'm hoping I learn the lesson for life but until then I'm back in the saddle for now

Do you eat yogurt (low fat) on you induction? You sound a lot like me. I need to go really LC for a few days to kick the cravings. I really miss the fruit though. That is really hard to give up and I do think it is essential for a healthy diet but it does kick in cravings. My husband just bought me a whole box of oranges to eat...uhh....I want one but am afraid they will make me binge. No one in my family understands this binging and how I crave.

I eat yo cheese. I drain full fat dannon yogurt for about 10 hours then add Davinci syrup. I didn't add the yo cheese until after induction. I also add berries after induction. They don't seem to impact my wt loss

I won't claim that LC has 100% stopped binging episodes for me, but it works far better than anything else I have tried. My old diet was carby heavy and binges are literally thousands of calories in one sitting!

Trying again after 2 week of just being stupid. You would think that I would stop this vicious cycle ,as I feel terrible when I do this. Gained alot of my weight back in 2 weeks. Plus Dr. put me on cholestrol meds 2 weeks ago and have not taken yet as I am sick of taking meds. I know I better get started on them. Didn't get any numbers yet. Several years ago The dr tried to put me on them and I didn't take them .I went on LA weight loss and brought my numbers down. I am a little afraid the Lc will bring them up. I know if I could lose a bunch of weight the numbers would go down without the meds.

Hope I can stick with it this time.

I wrote this on another thread but thought it would be good here, too.

I am personally thinking it the words "diet", "restrict", "time limit" and these type of words that are also a trigger for me along with stress, anxiety and boredom.

For some reason in the last 2 days I just said I am NOT on a diet! I will watch my portions, and make a conscience effort to not over eat but I'm not "dieting" anymore; no "organized" diet ways, do this, not that diet ways, don't eat this, eat that diet ways! I'm done with the concept of "diet" and it is really making some headway in my head! I haven't wanted to binge because I am not "watching" anything like being on a diet would have me do so food doesn't matter except to feed me when I'm hungry! Also, I can't "wait" to eat too long if I start to become hungry because then I eat WAY too much, it becomes a binge!!

I'm a work in progress but at least I'm seeing a bit of progress, it seems!!

I was totally out of control last night! Peanuts, pretzels, hard candy!! What is the matter with me! I went to bed so stuffed and uncomfortable and woke up during a dream sobbing!

I'm depressed like I haven't been in years and the thought of even trying to get these extra pounds off is just daunting to me right now!!

I. Have. To. Stop. Binging!!!!

Hi Sarah! Are you white knuckling it or trying something different? I've been having good success with supplements after reading the diet cure. If you haven't read it you. You may want to take a look.

Thank you biochic...yes, I am white knuckling it. If I can get past a few days of Phase 1 low carb I can do OK but it is so very hard. I will take a look at the book..thank you. Sometimes though I am a bit leery of taking too many supplements but I am will to read up on it.

Thank you all for referring me to Brain over Binge. I have averted two potential binges this week using the "disregarding the lower brain voice". It also helped to focus and direct my attention to my stomach to feel hunger and I couldn't, because I wasn't hungry it was a pure binge "hunger", and that helped as well. Both episodes again were for nuts and then it would have snowballed from there. The second time I did a high 5 in the air after I defeated the lower brain!!

I have noticed also that I can kind of predict a potential binge day. I usually wake up hungrier than normal that day which now alerts me that I have to be careful that day and keep distracted.

Help!

Hi,

I've struggled with bulimia for many years, where I starved myself for long periods of time. I know it sounds weird, but excessive hunger makes me feel safe. I'm currently adapting to burning fat for fuel, and I get hungry easily, I stretch it as far as I can, and when I eat I feel so guilty. I don't wanna mess up because of my guilt, and my self-punishment.

Does anyone have any experience with anything like this? It has been a long time since I last experience guilt when I eat, could it be because I subconsciously relate fat to someting bad?

Started CALP on Saturday and even though Saturday night wanted to head to a binge night I didn't let it and now I'm feeling stronger PLUS since I stop eating at about 7 or so and only eat a little veggie/protein something IF I'm truly hungry before bed this is working very well for me! I don't feel deprived, restricted or about my WOE right now and I'm this WOE is truly a good fit for me, which I am thinking it is!

Room for one more? I cant seem to stop eating SWEETS! Right now I am sitting next to a table full of donuts and yes I have had one. but oh the smell of them is driving me nuts and no I am not even hungry I just one them.. OH I sit next to the breakroom table!
Thursday I ate 3 of them...

The binge monster came to visit today and brought some sugar cookies (valetines, UGH)!!!! I HATE THAT MONSTER!!! I do not know why I do this to myself feeling bloated and like the crap that I ate!!
