Never Take Another Puff 2012

I'm quitting for good! I'm done... I need control of my life and health and can't risk another day.

I am 31 years old and have been a smoker since August of 1998 (I was 18). I have tried MANY times to quit, but this is IT!! I'm ready to be a non smoker for good.

Anybody is welcome to join me on this mission to conquer the nicotine monster. I'm doing it cold turkey with the help of reading Alllen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking. Day 1 (for me) starts tomorrow. Hubby says I get to keep all the money I save from smoking each month for myself to do whatever I want with it...I've got big plans with that!

My motto is NOPE - Not One Puff Ever!

I've been quitting for a couple weeks now and I'll admit to a couple setbacks, but I'm taking it one day at a time and I've managed to string together a couple days smoke free!

That mentality of me thinking I can handle just ONE gets me EVERY time (obviously). My best friend quit on New Years and had a minor slip up on day 3, but is back on track and onto Day 5 of no cheats. I'm planning on calling her lots for support and venting.

Good luck with the continued quit...we can do it!

This thread caught my attention because I just realized that today (January 10th) is the ...let me see....23rd (!) anniversary of quitting smoking! Yep, not a single puff in all those years, and let me tell you: it has paid off dividends in ways I never imagined!

You Can Do It!

23 years is AMAZING!!! Congratulations!!

My last cigarette was at about 4pm yesterday. I started to fall into my super b*tch mode but tried to snap myself out and realized that though I may feel irritable and strange, it would help myself to be happy and think positive about it. It's hard to do because it's much easier to snap and be mad than to rejoice in the current feat I am taking on. Plus, the nicotine monster likes to play with your mind and I tend to use it as an excuse to smoke again. I know a cigarette is not going to make me less moody, I am going to feel like crap once I take that first puff, and the cycle will start all over again.

Something I started to think about is how much time I will have on my hands now. If I estimate how much time I spent on smoking I would say it was anywhere between 5-7 hrs. in a day. Sometimes I would only be out there for about 10 minutes (per cigarette), but a lot of time I would sit there for 15-20 min chain smoking. I averaged about 25-30 cigs a day.

This is really hard....I'm having arguments with my NM frequently, reminding myself to get out of the habit of wanting to go outside after eating, showering, first thing in the morning, etc.

Will check back in later in the day.

I am having a rough morning. I feel like I have an angel and a devil perched on each of my shoulders and they are battling out all day. The thoughts only last a couple minutes and then I am okay again.

I can actually feel all of my senses coming back again. Music sounds better, things taste better, I smell things more...I like it.

What I don't like is how I feel "naked". I think cigarettes were sort of a security blanket for me. I have issues with anxiety and now I have to cope with that in another way since I can't just hide behind the cigs anymore. I know they actually (according to medical research) make people's anxiety worse, but now that I am not clouded (in mind and literally) I feel like I am adjusting to a new way of life. Idk how to explain it, it makes sense in my head though.

I still tend to snap at people and have to catch it before I get out of control, it's a learning process I am working on it as it comes along.

I tend to do things slower, could be a good thing. I am focused on things and take my time so I don't stress even more about what's going on around me.

I feel "munchie" ALL the time. I'm keeping to my LC still and part of the munchie factor could be because of TOM.

Been organizing and de-cluttering, since I have more time at hand. I've been meaning to get rid of all this excess junk around the house so no better time right?!?!

Time seems to go VERY slowly.... I have almost made it through 2 days smoke free (at 4pm today), seems longer, yet it doesn't (I know that doesn't really make much sense ).

Well, off to finish some more cleaning.

This is do-able!

Hi Karen
I want to tell you that you are doing the best thing you can possibly do to improve your health by quitting smoking. I did not read Allen Carr's book, but did read alot of things from the book from the Quitnet.com forum. If you haven't been there -you should check it out. The first 6 months of my quit I lived online at that site. There is a lot of support in the forums. You CAN do this. Don't think about tomorrow or even an hour from now. Concentrate on this minute and make the choice not to light a cigarette. The craving WILL pass! Hang in there!
Anna
My stats: I've been Quit 1913 days. $13,391.00 and 9 months, 22 days, 5 hours of my life saved.

Hi. I just wanted to say, that I quit on chantix. I only had about three weeks worth of it and though my last smoke was on 1/5/12 I still crave. Mostly when i'm stressed. It's still hard for me to get past a craving, though at the same time I know it's not worth it. One thing that helped me with those "triger" moments was blow pops. Mostly when I would be driving.

Best of Luck. Cold turkey is hard. Quiting is hard.

my boyfriend is quitting smoking. He is using the patch and losenges. He has done so well! I want to support him any way I can, he hasn`t said much about how I can help. Does anyone have any advice for me about the best way to support someone who wants to quitÉ
