Time to stop smoking!!!

Well, after seeing my doctor last week and discovering my BP was high, I was put on high BP medication plus a potassium pill. I had blood and urine testing done and get my results on Wednesday.

I have a family history of heart disease, diabetes...doctor thinks I could be prediabetic. I'm 49.

So, I'm on my medication and today I picked as my quit date. Cold turkey. So far I'm doing fine and don't want to smoke. I need to do this. And I have to make this a priority in my life.

Good luck!

My sister quit smoking after 30 years of smoking. She took Wellbutrin at first and then did it on her own. She said she feels better and also it's helped her wallet

Made it through day 1 without a single puff!!!! Not that I didn't want to, and almost did, but I talked myself into not doing it and being strong.

It's up to me to be strong.............

you are being strong and that's not easy to do with addictions! If you have a hard time, you might ask your doc about Wellbutrin or Chantix.

Two days down....I've had nothing. I'm really going to try this cold turkey. I am on Pristiq and a HB pill, so I don't want to take another pill.

Keep up the good work!!!

I took my last dip of smokeless tobacco (you don't want to know how many years...) on July 22, 2011 so I am now 122 days of being tobacco-free.

I know what you are going through, but I assure/promise you that it will get much better -- just tell yourself it's one minute/hour/day at a time.

Also, I joined a support group (I suggest you do as well) called KillTheCan.org that specializes in helping others quit (for good) smokeless tobacco -- there is a site specifically for smokers (QuitThePack.org?)

Once again, congratulations and remember that nothing, absolutely nothing, can make you smoke again!!!

I think it's been 13 years for me. I used the patch and wellbutrin and still couldn't quite make it. I would go 2 or 3 days then light one up ect. Then I started walking every day
and that got me over the hump. And with walking every day instead of gaining I lost weight. After I had been without any tobaco for about 3 months I was about 10 lbs lighter than when I was smoking. I still don't say I quit I just haven't smoked in 13 years.
I was using chewing tobaco and smoking usualy about 2 packs a day. If I didn't chew I
smoked about 4 & 1/2 packs a day. I think Mark Twain said " giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world I have done it hundreds of times"
