Alcoholism
Hi Everyone,
I am new here to this messageboard. I have tried other addict-type sites and no one has really gotten back to me with advice. I just would like some sort of support. I don't know ...I don't know what I want. But I know that I have finally realized that I may have an addiction to alcohol. I drink - a lot. And almost on a daily basis and I do hide it from time to time. Sometimes I will find bottles of alcohol in places where I forgot I had put in the first place. When I can't have a drink I become really anxious and irritable and sometimes just want to crawl into a ball and cry. I just want to quit drinking. As much as I can't stop I just want to. I wish it never got this out of hand either. And I don't want it to destroy my life or my relationships with people. I just had one glass of cider and for now I feel okay but know that soon I will start freaking out if I don't have more and unfortunately I just don't have more. Well...maybe not unfortunately. But I just hate feeling like this and feel like I have no one to talk to or anything. Sorry - that is my little rant. I guess people comes to forums for help or advice...this is why I came. Any words of advice would be really greatly appreciated. ![]() Thanks everyone. -Persephone |

Hi P,
AA is not for everyone. It is not the be-all and end-all for everyone. There are other approaches out there. I have the same problems as you, and the same fears. I think (for me) it helps to understand what's going on in our heads--Is it a habit? An addiction? Are we doomed? Why do we do this? (Well I think we both know the answer but it is good to think about it.) I like this site, it has a neat little downloadable (free) pamphlet and you can take a little quiz to find out why you do what you do and why you want to stop. It gave me some insight into my "problem" and helped me tremendously. Maybe it will help you too. Stop Drinking Alcohol - Free *Stop Drinking Report* - Learn How To Beat Alcoholism. Best wishes. I understand where you're at. ~Indigo PS, This is the site with the quiz: http://s96539219.onlinehome.us/toolk...cohol/main.htm Last edited by Indigo22; 05-06-2011 at 10:04 AM.. Don't cost you nothing to call AA, like Taz suggests. Its a free program and been around for ages. If you need to get something done right away, and don't have time for psychoanalysis its either going to rehab or programs like AA. Take a shot before its too late. Call and someone will help you!! Don't wait.
Try it. |

Check out Drug Rehabilitation | Drug Addiction Treatment Center | Alcoholism | Addiction Mental Health | Directory Substance Abuse Detox Programs | SoberRecovery
Its a forum much like this one and I've found it EXTREMELY helpful. I also go to AA several times a week. I have come to love AA. Its shown me a new and better way to live. Get to a meeting and keep in mind that every meeting you go to will be a bit different so if you don't like it at first try, try again. Working the 12 step program of AA has changed my life dramatically and I feel an inner peace that I've never known before. I'm sober just over 10 weeks and the extreme anxiety and depression I had while drinking are non-existent today. Give it a try...in the very least you'll meet people who understand what you are going through and genuinly want to help. It s also a good idea to see your dr & be HONEST about your drinking. Some drs will prescribe medication that can really help you on your first few days / week of not drinking. Best of luck and please keep in touch & let me know how you are doing. Your life can be sooo much better! |

Hi. I've been an addict for 12 years and I'm only 25. I tried many different things to quit drinking and using over the years, but it wasn't until I had a spiritual awakening and went to my first AA meeting about 70 days ago that I was able to get sober and stay sober. It's a good program. Alcoholism is a symptom of a bigger problem. AA and the fellowship has been insanely helpful to me. I go to meetings at least three times a week and am always lifted up by what others have to say, the readings, and any time I have an opportunity to help another addict. My life has changed completely and I work every day on my character and towards being a better person and of greater service to others. I pray for peace and blessings for you, and I hope you find your way into recovery. <3
