They do seem like a good alternative if you use them instead of cigarettes if that's how you use them. Some people use them in addition to cigarettes, so it appears that the electronic ones don't work as well as they claim to.

Wow, it wasn't 10 minutes ago I mentioned this to my Mom! She has smoked most of her life and is determined NOT to pay the price for the smokes any more as they're going up yet again in a week.
If you try this, or if anyone else uses it, would love to hear a report back! |

I worked as a CADD Engineer (contractor to get CAD system/files up to current industry standard) for Lockheed Martin for a short amount of time and there is no smoking on-site at all. I am a non-smoker so for me it's a non-issue; anyway smokers would have to leave the area (it's a HUGE area, used to be it's own city with it's own fire dept and everything); employees who smoke literally have to take a shuttle bus or bike or car outside of the LM property unless they happen to be in a building that was very close to the exit/entrance fences. I thought it was a good thing because it forces those who smoke alot to cut back (at least during the work day) and also non-smokers don't inhale second hand smoke during the work day.
Anyway, now I am wondering if any of them have tried this e-cig. Some of the comments like "now i can fill my urge at any time, any place", makes me wonder if people are increasing their nicotine usage because they don't have to excuse themselves from work, restaurants, etc to go "have a smoke"? Just thoughts... Last edited by Maryposa; 03-25-2009 at 11:57 AM.. |

I don't think you could smoke these at work or in restaurants either. It's still smoking and it's not allowed. I'd like to know more....like if there are any bad effects, etc.????

according to the site, you can... they are smoke-free? They also brought up smoke-free apartment complexes and how you can use these there... anywhere, in fact.

I have one, and have used it since November 1st, when I quit smoking 'regular' cigarettes. I really like it, and can probably answer any questions you might have. Right off the bat through, I'd tell you not to order from NJoy. You can get them for half the price from other websites.

This totally wouldn't help me quit smoking.
As it is I smoke outside my home and in the car - that's it. I can't smoke in stores, restaurants, parks, in my home, etc. If I had this then I could smoke anywhere, anytime. And while smoking is an addiction, there is still a "habit" we must break. I'd rather not have to break the habit of smoking at my computer or in public places all over again. Another 'stop smoking' fail, IMO. |

It's a nicotine delivery system, like the Nicoderm patch, only in a "hand to mouth" applicator that simulates smoking, which I think is half the battle for a lot of people - my Mom, for instance, can barely HAVE a cup of coffee without a cigarette in the other hand!
Her doc actually recommended she use the patches as a nicotine replacement but I think she's so tied to the ACT of smoking, as well as the addiction to the nicotine, that the patches would be doomed to failure for her - where this just MIGHT work. |

On the plus side though, the "smoke" is a mist that evaporates rapidly in the air therefore no "second hand smoke" effect. Also, it is pure nicotine, none of the additives found in regular cigarettes. For someone still smoking and not planning to quit and not wanting to pay the increased tax on cigarettes, this might be a healthier solution.

you are addicted to cigarettes for two reasons.. one habit and two addiction to nicotine. You need to break one of these at least to begin the process of quitting. I could see those cigarettes being a better solution to people in positions where smoking is perhaps not permitted like that compound one person was talking but not as a method to quit.
Personally after smoking for like14 years I went cold turkey because I found out I was pregnant.. that is not the route most people like to take. The patch is a good method because while you are still dependant initially on the nicotine you are breaking the habit portion of smoking. My husband went the opposite route of the patch, he quit nicotine by allowing himself to smoke 'herbal' cigarettes from a health food store. The first day or two he smoked maybe 4-5 of them and then a few less the next couple of days and then just 1-2 for another few days until he just didnt want them anymore.. the nicotine was out of his system and he suddenly realized how absolutely nasty they smelled and tasted and just really didn't feel the need to go fill his lungs with them anymore.. and voila he was quit in 2 weeks and then it was willpower not to start up again just like it is willpower to continue to eat low carb. Please don't get me wrong though.. the fact that someone wants to try to quit is the start but I guess I just heard too many times my in-laws telling my husband over and over they were quitting one way or another and after a few days they were back to smoking.. No matter what path you take, make a clear plan, set yourself a reward and consequence system and stick to it.. otherwise you are just fooling yourself and that's no fun. At least my best friend who is a chain smoker at the best of times admits freely she just doesnt plan to quit and accepts the consequences of it and yet at the same time is very respectful of me the now non-smoker and my daughter when we're around. Best of luck!

it's interesting that the video says you can only buy these in India. Here in Southern California they are for sale. I saw these at Christmas time in a large Kiosk at the mall.

If, like my Mom, you really don't WANT to quit, but a) it's getting too costly and/or b) your health dictates you quit the SMOKING (and my Mom has emphysema) - then these might be the ticket. In any event it's nice to have them there as a choice for those who feel they fit into their needs and pocketbook. |

Smoking is a nasty habit and i hope that all of you that smoke and want to quit will ultimatley succeed......
If you think the greedy-ass govt. wont start taxing the hell out of this too if it causes too many people to give up the real thing, think again. I hate being anywhere near smokers but too continue to un-fairly tax them is simply wrong. No matter what the alternative.....they will tax it eventually. |

So I picked up a starter kit at a travel center, it was $40 less than the website price. If you expect them to be 100% like a cig they are not, BUT they are very unique and make a great replacement. They smell they give off has a hint of maple syrup. The tobbaco flavored ones are yucky to me but the menthol ones are good. I want to try other flavors like chocolate and coffee.

I quit cold turkey about 18 months ago and have not had one since. I actually do miss smoking, the feel, holding it in my hand with a cup of coffee etc.
Does anybody think this is 'counter productive' to quitting smoking? ie. almost like starting to smoke again? Better off as I am, a 'non smoker' ? or is this sort of a version of the effects of those middle easter 'hooka' pipes in terms of effects (the enjoyment of smoking)? I hate to admit this, but I quit primarily due to the horrendous cost and the difficulty in finding places to smoke. I do feel much better and notice the difference however.. I ll have to do more research.. |

pointboy, if I had quit completely (like you), I wouldn't buy these because I understand you get nicotine. say "addictive". Stay clear and be healthy and wealthy.
I'd like to find and try them to withdraw from tobacco and smoke...and eventually nicotine??? |
