Wow, SugarPop, you are doing fantastic. Yep, you are so right about not being able to do just one. I feel for your friend have one "here & there".....yes we do know what that means, and I'm glad you can see it. She is lying to herself and is going to end up smoking day in and day out before long. How sad. I'm just thankful you can see past that.

Congrats for losing weight too. It is rough when you first quit and when you feel the need to eat you should, I think. Anything that can help you get through without smoking. The weight can come off later, when you have a chance to calm down. Sounds like you are there. I'm glad it's getting easier for you. Keep it up, girl.

Hi Hummingbird, good to see you here. I'm hoping you will be able to join us shortly. We don't have posts on here every day so you won't get hit on the head every day, but when there is a post, you will think of us. When you get "there" you will find a whole new world awaiting.

Hi Hummingbird - Nice to see you here. I've almost completed my first month smoke free! You can do this......I'm barely even thinking about cigarettes anymore - Now I'm concentrating on the weight loss - Down to 183 this AM yippee. Anyway, good luck to you - It's not easy, but I'm so glad I did this and you will be too. Here in NY I was paying $7.00 for ONE pack. Not to mention I was afraid to even speak to anyone for fear of cigarette breath. Here's to good health in 2009....

And linda, thank you so much for starting this thread and being there for us......I really appreciate it.

You know, I want to encourage anyone that wants to try and quit to join us. Even if you've been here before and have fallen off track...........It doesn't mean you're weak - it just means that you had a setback. We all understand that. I know, for myself, I used smoking as a tool to eat less - or so I rationalized - So believe me when I say I understand the conflict that you're dealing with.

Today I haven't smoked in a month and I'm back on track with the dieting - I'm working to undo the damage and I'm gonna get there.

We can get through this.

i made it. One year smoke free. I am definately a non-smoker now. I don't want a cigarette, I don't want to be around smokers, and I know that I will not ever smoke again.
After going through the hell of quitting, I don't have to breath it or smell like it ever again. So the smokers of the world can just stay away from me.

Congratulations, micki !!!!!!...........Happy Anniversary.

Well, I made it through the whole month of January smoke free. I had lots of stress, plus my Birthday, and packed on a few pounds and was more than discouraged - but I did it. Today I'm down to 182.5..(from 191 last week).....So I'm still on track. Soon to be back in the 170's again and then I can say it was only a 10 pound gain. I have to say I ate like a linebacker - but that's just me - I didn't consume "normal" quantities......I ate beyond being full and I ate everything bad (pretty much purposely) - So, if you're reading and scared don't let my self destructive behavior make you think you will do as bad weight wise as I did..............I tend to do everything to the extreme - whether it be drugs, food, cigarettes.......you name it. I don't do drugs anymore, now I've quit cigarettes........never was much of a drinker, but if hangovers weren't involved I would be, and now I'm gonna conquer the weight.

I think I need to join you all. I've quit smoking a few times. I lasted as long as three years, then I became a social smoker (bad idea) most of the time I have it under control, but recently I've been smoking two or three cigarettes a day, you would think it would be easy to stop that, but for some reason it isn't. I really need to cut this out once and for all. I'm not feeling well today, so it will be a good day to start. Here I go....

BTW, Congrats Micki!

Still hanging in there..........I've had my moments where I really still get strong urges to smoke.........Still hard at times and I have to fight with myself - because I'm mad at the weight gain, but all I can do is hang in there and hope it's not too long before I'm feeling more confident about the extra weight - just when I was starting to feel better about myself.

Strong urges tonight for some werd reason, actually the last few days. I'm heading to the store right now for a diet soda - I just feel the perfect thing right now would be a diet soda and a cigarette - but I'm just getting the soda - waaaaaaaaa........I really wanna cigarette.

Thanks, Barb..........I ended up not going at all........thought it was too risky - plus too cold.....lol.

Welp, last night I went to see my gf's band - and had TWO glasses of wine - danced my butt off and never even thought about having a cigarette. Another good thing about the no smoking in clubs/public anymore.........It woulda been way tougher if I was watching people around me smoke.

Wow, everyone is doing so fantastic What a joy to see so many flourishing without those nasty sticks

SugarPop, congrats on making it through your club night, and not caving when you wanted the diet soda

Hummingbird, how are you doing??

Sorry I haven't been here, we've been out of the country, but we are back now. Congrats to all, taking it day by day. It gets easier each week, with some rough patches here and there, but they pass, don't they?

Hi TinaBina & lauraroberts, glad to have you here. Keep on truckin' and you will come out a winner.

Hi Guys.........

Having a hard time tonight..........Strong cravings. Seems like when I quit before I didn't go through this after the nicotine was out of me...............Wondering if I'll ever stop having the cravings........and so strong too - where I really have to fight not just giving in.

The only thing stopping me is the longevity that I've put into this.
