My addiction

I have finally come to the conclusion that I had been addicted to energy pills or diet supplements for many years. I would nt take more than the recommended dosages, but I took them for many yrs. Up until mid July of this yr I suppose I had done that for say 6 to 7 yrs. My weight had went up all this same time. I didnt feel as if I was helping myself unless I had a pill of some type. I have now bee pill free since July 20th. I have since lost about 25 lbs. I use the combination of Somersizing and adkins. I feel if I had never boke that cycle of addiction , No matter how mild it was. I would still be at the same weight or higher that I was in July before giving the supplements up. Thank you Low Carb Friends and Suzanne for helping me see what I was doing to myself..

I am a lurker, but I am sorry that you feel that you are not in the right group of friends. I do feel your pain over your addiction to weight loss pills. I am sorry. Please give the board some time to wake up and read the boards. You might be surprised at some of the advice that will come your way.

I didn't see this until now. I think sometimes I post something that everyone will respond to, and it just drops to the bottom of the list. It may be timing as much as anything else.

I shared with a couple of people here a very scarey experience with the slimquick pills (I think that is the name, they have packaging with several linked circles and are supposed to target the 'female' fat loss). I thought I was losing my mind. I was extremely stressed over family problems and extremely tired AND had a major health issue. Adding the pills to this mix was not pretty. What I was told is that pills like this may overstress your system, especially your adrenals.

I know that within days I was much, much better, plus I dropped a few pounds as well. I didn't post 'outloud' at the time because I was posting so much about the other stuff. And I know what you mean about this feeling so very personal.

I hope that you are able to not go back. Sometimes the message of 'health in a bottle' is very subtle and alluring. But remembering that time is enough for me, I hope forever!

Perhaps the reason no one has responded is simply that addiction is very painful to talk about. I give you much credit for your success in conquering it And fir having the courage to talk about it. I have tried diet pills of course, but my real addiction is to food--particularly sugar. I cannot seem to stop myself. Even now, after a wonderfully successful year I still cannot control myself once I start--it's so self destructive. I think that we all feel your pain. Congratulations and keep it up!

Addiction is a very distressing and hard thing to deal with. And I am willing to pour my heart out to you as well. Through my lifetime I have been addicted to many dangerous lifestyles not to mention substances. I have tried to lose weight in every way possible. EVERY WAY. I am starting to tear up a bit...... life is difficult when you dont see your self in a positive way. I have tried so many things, to try and get to a wieght that now I see is not possible for my body type. I am short and curvy. I will never be tall and thin. maybe thinner, but not what I have been picturing in my head for years. life is a struggle and its hard to face sometimes, especially when one has lived that way for so long. We make it OK in our minds to live like that. So many excuses. But deep down we know whats healthy for us, it's just difficult to follow through with. Your in the right place. I bet if people could share theyre addictions annonomously there would be more comments. It's hard to share.:

Much Support
Becca

You should be so proud of yourself for breaking free of the pills. Maybe in your mind you thought the pill was the crutch, but all along the power was within you! Way to go and Keep up the good work.

I know how it feels to be addicted to the energy pills! You should have seen me when I was taking Xenadrine with ephedra many moons ago! EEK!!! I felt as though I could have had a heart attack!

The best thing to do is take the proper vitamins and minerals you need in not only pill form but whole foods. If low-carb is the way you want to go then by all means do it! Read the DANDR book for the best information out there.

I thank you all for coming in and replying. This holiday has really went better than I expected it to this year. My eating has been good. I did have one dessert Christmas eve. I could tell yesterday too, because I kept thinking of something sweet to eat. I do that when I do sugar. Seems the more I eat the more I want. So I try my best to stay away from sugar. Thanks again everyone.
