SMOKING REHAB
I am a smoker. There I said it. I don't smoke around anyone other than my husband and friends. I am what you could call a closet smoker. I smoke a pack a day in the closet though.. I think insurance should pay for a rehab for smokers. Sounds crazy but they have rehab for every freaking thing else. It would be easier I would think if I was removed from my life and my back porch which is my place to smoke. I am just wanting to quit and will when I am totally ready. My husband is in Iraq and I would LOVE to be smoke free when he comes home.
I might write my insurance company and suggest them paying for rehab. |

No kidding. They will pay for rehab for all kinds of illegal substances but something you can buy over the counter NO WAY. I know it is all on me to quit as was it all on me when I started. I just wanna quit well, I wanna WANNA quit.

I've quite smoking several times. This time around I did it on a whim and have been smoke free for nearly 2 weeks!
I know in the military there are support groups and you can get a prescription. Its too bad there's not a rehab for it... |

Chantix
I smoked for 29 years varrying from a pack a day to almost 2 packs a day, I tried the patch, cold turkey, cutting back nothing kept me off cigs. I tried Chantix and have stopped smoking now for 6 months lost, 25 lbs, started running and am eating healthy. I am a firm beleiver it comes down to will power and mind control. I wont say there are days that I dont think of having a smoke but its how I respond to those cravings that help me. Good luck with your attempt to quit.

As of today I have been a NON-SMOKER for 1 month. I used to smoke pack and a half every day for 20 years. It feels great. I wish you luck in your attempting to quit!

In February of this year, the doctors told my husband that if he did not stop smoking, they would begin by cutting off his toes, then his foot, then a little further up, etc. That was all it took. We both laid down the cigarettes. He had attemped to quit several times before (he had smoked over 40 years) but the stark reality of what he was doing to himself did the trick. I've always believed that quitting is more a mental obstacle than a true addiction. Tobacco companies would like for us to think we are addicted because they don't want us to quit.
BTW, we took money we were not spending on cigarettes and bought a new Jeep. Had enough left to pay the increase in the insurance, too. Sweet.

I used chantix also, and I quit smoking the day after thanksgiving last year. I am coming up on my one year smoke free anniversary!!!
I tried so many different things to quit...patch, commit, accupuncture, etc., etc., etc. Then I started taking chantix and it was the easiest thing I ever did. I only took it for 2 1/2 months and I haven't looked back since. My husband only took it for 2 months and he is smoke free as well. Seriously, if you want to quit PLEASE give chantix a try. It really does what it says it does. I really think it will help break any habit because I also kicked my 2 pot a day coffee habit while on chantix. If you do try it, be sure to eat with your dose or you will get nauseous. I used to eat a bowl of oatmeal every morning with my pill and I was fine. Good luck! you can do this!

I kind of have to agree with you. Insurance companies will cover chest x-rays, bronchitis, pneumonia, radiation, chemotherapy, etc. but will not cover a program to help people stop smoking. They know if everyone quit they would lose ALOT of money. I don't think insurance companies even cover Chantix which costs a pretty penny. It's all about the almighty dollar and not the individual person. Good luck to you.

Many insurance companies pay for smoking cessation programs ~ I know mine will pay for patches for me, but I need to commit to a "counseling program" too to help me along. You may want to look into whether your insurance company does something similar ~ it's not rehab but it's something.
Good luck! Stopping is SO hard ~ I've not smoked now for 2 1/2 months and I want a butt all. the. time. But not enough to have one. And I have gained 15 pounds in that amount of time, which is so very frustrtating and maddening, but I'm back in the swing of things and it won't be long before that and more is gone.
