Yes, I see that was several hours ago, hope you made those calls.

You have a ton of support behind you. You CAN do this.
But it is up to you and only you. It must come from within.

I suggest that you get to AA as quickly as possible. Today. This weekend.
Please??

No one says it will be easy. In fact, it's gonna be hard as hell for awhile. But it will get easier the longer you stick with it. Nothing in life that's worth anything is free or easy. Go for it!

Change your thoughts; Change your life.

The world is out there waiting for you.

Babsy, First of all, big for taking the first step in admitting your alcoholism. My brother took this step a year ago and couldn't be happier. I haven't seen this website listed yet, but my brother found it helpful. He did eventually go to AA and attends everyday and has so many new and "true" friends now. Hope it's okay to post this website and that you will find it helpful

mywayout.org

I drink wine daily and have wondered why. Is it a habit? a problem? Although I don't think it is a problem this thread has got me to thinking what am I teaching my children? Could it turn into a problem? I, too, wonder in certain situations what I would do if I couldn't have a glass of wine with everyone else.

So, Babsy, I applaud you taking the step in helping yourself, but I want you to know that you are also helping others take a good look at themselves.

Please, keep us posted, we truly carePrayers for you, sweetie!!

Awesome website, thanks for posting!

Similar to what I was going to suggest. Because I was so distraught over this, I was talking to my hubby about it last night, and he wondered if AA had an online forum similar to LCF? mywayout looks great.

Babsy, did you check it out? My thoughts & prayers are with you, honey.

And I was thinking, since you mentioned Friday/Saturday nights are the toughest nights to avoid drinking, why not make Friday (& Saturday) your "AA meeting" nights? Just an idea.

XO,
HB

Hi Babsy,

I feel like a little bit of an intruder on this conversation; my control bar says "you last visited 7-30-2004." I was on this board many moons ago when my husband successfully lost lots of weight on Atkins; now we are both doing low GL to increase our energy (there's a toddler to keep up with now) so here I am again.

This Thursday I will be celebrating 16 years sober. I too couldn't imagine what it would be like never to have another drink -- how would I fill the time, where would I find my fun and what would I have in common with my friends any more? The good news was that I didn't have to worry about "ever again," just today. As long as I don't drink today, the rest takes care of itself.

I sure found ways to fill the time -- got a graduate degree, got married, bought a house, had a teaching career for 13 years until I had my baby, published two books and went on book tours -- mind you, these were all pipe dreams while I was drinking. I would walk from bar to bar (I lived in Hollywood at the time) thinking about how someday I was going to write a book -- but all I was writing was my signature on the bar tab! Now I've started a new career, selling houses -- old houses were a hobby and a passion, so I figured what the heck and got my Realtor's license. Because, ya know, why not? It's amazing the amount of stuff I can do when I'm not drunk, hung over or living in a fog.

PM me any time. I wish you all the best. It is an awesome journey for those of us who decide to take it.

-Anne

You know what? This is so funny....

I only feel like having wine or beer, whatevers here, when I cook a good meal.

I love entertaining my family and friends and whenever that happens I need a drink. So what I do is regardless of my carb intake I add it in.

Alcoholic? not sure.

One day I'm going to make a YouTube video on "Drinking and Cooking!"

read about babsy and hope she doesnt end up like I did with hepatic encephalacy( worse than childbirth)

I was lucky.. I almost died.. but got granted a second chance/wake up call.

for those of you who arent aware of the dangers.. this included a transfusion on the way to the nearest hospital (90 minutes) in which I forgot who and where I was.

I blew up 24 pounds of fluid, I turned yellow, got black eyes and my kidneys and liver began to fail, I developed gall stones and had big time pancreatic pain. I was so full of fluid it was hard to breathe, and then for 2 days no food or water or pain relief.
I only drank casually for 10 years but guess what?

my body cant handle it.

please dont let this happen to any of you.

I guess its easy to quit drinking when you know it can kill you.

its hard for me to think of never drinking again when our social circle revolves around it. but my life is worth more than that.

*steps off soap box

Hi Babsy,
How are you doing? I have been praying for you, if that is any comfort (it is to me at any rate). I was hoping to check on this thread and hear you are doing ok.

Just checking. Please check in

Thanks so much AllieCat. So far so good. I didnt even need my insulin shot today. My blood sugar seems to be improving and I am also on induction with my carbs coming from 2 cups of salad and one cup veggies or three cups salad.

YAY Babsy, I am so glad to hear it. I read in another thread where you said you would definitely quit if it improved your diabetes like it already seems to be doing. Praying for HEALING for you! In every way.

Remember sweet girl....it's just another day
do things to make youreslf feel good.

Do you need a pedicure for summer?
Have you planned your meals for next week?
Maybe spend some time in the kitchen working on new recipes?
Grab a good book and lay in the sun for some additional Vitamn D therapy for your mood
Call a friend and take a hike in one of your local state parks

Hey, I'll hang out with you unfortunately, I have to work this weekend!

I'll tell you I've even gone to bars THREE times in the past five weeks and I did not even consider ordering a beer or a glass of wine. I still have the reading materials from FA (the big AA book and twenty four hours a day). I DO read them. I know it is a very rare person that can stop at a drop of a hat. I am not that person. Stress at work or home can lead me to it. I don't crave it every day but the weekends are the worst.

I remember times when I could have lost my job. I remember horrible and disgusting situations I got myself into because of drinking. I don't know if it was because I was in my 20's and felt as though I had nothing to lose. I just don't know.

Babsy.. hope its going well.. just wanted to say.. before I quit drinking I had high blood sugar and I had high blood pressure and elevated liver enzymes for YEARS

after 4 weeks of no alcohol, my blood sugar is normal and I had to go off high blood pressure meds! no more racing pulse, no more dizziness or fog...no more headaches... liver enzymes are normal.

I feel sooooo much better! hope you get the chance to feel this way too!
