Atkins is the only way...

Atkins is the only way I overcame my food addictions and bulimia.

Atkins is the only plan that I have ever been on and I lost this much weight and kept it off now for almost eight years.

I overcame my binge purge by eating all food groups each day in the right portions, especially leafy greens. I found literature on treatment of bulimia and it included that type of daily balance goal.

I also did a bit of a transfer addiction by going crazy with exercise there for a while.

I think of low carb as the way I have to eat now that I allowed my body to get too fat. Not as a punishment, but a direct consequence of eating way too much white foods in huge scary amounts for too many years.

I used food as a drug and it literally poisoned the way my system can (or cannot) handle food now.

I pray for those who continue to suffer from an ed, it is hell. I try to reach out to as many people as I can help cause I know the pain they are in. Atkins literally saved my life cause I do not know how long I could have lived, mentally and physically, with my over eating and bulimia. With Atkins, it is like I never had an issue with food, I actually love and enjoy eating again.

I agree

When I first read the Atkins Diet Revolution, I felt a complete connection with the stories. It was me all the way. I never purged, but I did binge and then I'd let the food just sit in my stomach and make me sick. I did this most of my life except when I went on a few "lowfat" diets.

I had made a few attempts to follow the plan back in 02' and 03', but it never stuck. Finally in the beginning of 05' I started full force and lost about 30 pounds. I had never felt so great in my life!! It was the best plan ever cause I was never hungry and my clothes just fit me differently. It only took me 6 months to get to my desired weight.

I am now back on (but sometimes off). I gained backhalf of that weight that I lost, but I know that it works if I work it. I will never go back to eating the way I did in the past. Eventhough I may have some days where I am "off", I know what's right for me.

Hello kind people,
Do any of you post daily menus on this board? I'd like to follow those to help myself along. I am a sugar addict for sure. I do ok for a while, then I'll have a horrible splurge followed by a long depression--feeling rotten physically and ashamed mentally. And through it all I never drop any weight.
Also, do any of you have a method to avoid constipation? I have a problem with this regardless what level of Atkins I do.
Thanks so much for any help you might have!

Psyllium husk is good. It's the active ingredient in Metamucil. You can buy it in capsules, but I take a teaspoon of the powder (looks like brine shrimp eggs) each morning, mixed with a beverage.

Doug,
Thanks for your fast response. Do you find this works best in the morning? I may need to do both morning and night. I'll try this, thanks!

What kind of exercise to you do, if any? I'm confused as to whether to do cardio, weights, or incorporate both. Seems like the more I read and research, the more confused I get.

Hi leeney,
I eat ALOT of veggies, and drink ALOT of water. That seems to do the trick. If I ever need help, I usually grind up flax seed and drink a couple of glasses of water with it. Hope this helps!

I am also recovering from an ED. I (pretty much) stopped purging 15 years ago, but still binge. Atkins is the only thing that seems to keep me on track.
{{hugs}}
