please read
Hi, I am eden. I have been a member of the bulletin board for maybe 3 weeks. Well I ask a lot of different questions about random things. See I have an eating disorder. Aneroxic/bulimic/lax abuser. Basically all the above. I have somewhat been doing the atkins diet, I have just been eating meat and like 1 or more packs of sugar free gum. (yes I know I am not allowed on induction) and then diet dr.pepper. But I have also been taking laxatives and the diet pill Alli. I chew so much gum (like I chew all the flavor out, spit it out, get another piece).. not actually eating/swallowing it...lol.
But my weakness when it comes to food is sweets and breads (like butter rolls, bread sticks, crust..lol) but mainly sweets. So since I have "somewhat" started this new diet I have craved white chocolate (well just chocolate) something awful. I slipped up a few times and binged and purged on chocolate. Oh and once on my moms famous cinnamon biscuits (has powered sugar icing!!) I don't know why I am posting this, I just need the truth to be told and I thought that HOPEFULLY someone on this forum will be able to help me somehow. I do see a therapist and take prozac. ( although I haven't seen my therapist in a month, she never seems available when I am). Also I forgot to tell yall. Right now I just have been researching the atkins diet, the south beach, and the GI diet to see which one I really think is best for me. But the reason I am trying a lower carb diet is b/c the carbs is what I binge/purge on. well thanks

Eden, You can learn to control food and not allow it to control you anymore. I am not saying it is easy to do but it can be done.
I feel that sweets and white processed foods are addictive because they contain so much additives in them. If you can lower those foods, maybe alittle at a time eventually some of the cravings will lessen and then over time you can cut them out and just stay with you low carb eating. I was like you when I first went on Atkins low carb, my cravings for sweets was terrible but i begun making some low carb deserts and i loved them, try making some for yourself sometimes and see if that will help you. I am here for you anytime so post often. I will check back with you later. You can PM mail me if you want to and talk more. I have lost 100 lbs. already on Atkins over the last few years on his plan of low carb.

Okay...this is just my opinion. I have struggled w/ bulemia for years, and for me, the ONLY thing that keeps me on track is the Atkins diet. In my opinion, you are different than the "avaerage" person who needs to lose weight, people w/ eating disorders/food addiction have to look at weight loss in a totally different way. With a drug abuser they go to rehab, detox themselves from their drug, people who are addicted to food can not do that, so again, and this is just my opinion, it is a whole new ball game. I have my good days and I have my bad days, but all my good days have been when I followed the Atkins diet, for me it keeps me grounded.

Way too much time on my hands!
|
I've had an ED since I was 8. I was strictly bulimic with anorexic tendancies from 19-25. I've relapsed a few times, and have been in treatment several times. One thing that is always said is that if you have an ED you can NEVER diet. Has your therapist told you that? If not you need a new one. My therapist deals 100% with ED patients. Stop researching diet plans and work on yourself. No diet will ever help your ED. It will just dig you deeper and deeper. I almost died twice form my ED. It's not worth it. All of that time you are using researching diets use to work on yourself instead. You know what you are doing is unhealthy and every day that goes by is a day closer to the grave. The firlst time I almost died I was 22. The second time I was 23. I thought I was too young. Wrong! I also have a lot of health problems including a heart condition. Please seek proper treatment.
