Yeah! Thank you Deila. My quit day is 2/18/08. I am very excited and very nervous. I recently lost 37 pounds by changing my W.O.E and I want to lose a bit more before I attempt to quit. I have quit a few hundred times in the past. The last time was for close to 9 months. I always gained about 10-20 lbs. This time I am going to go in know it and expecting it.

I think I am going to try Chantix. In the past when I have tried to quit I have become so grouchy and my anxiety went through the roof. Oh I also cried if you looked at me.

I have given my co-workers, boss and family the heads up. I hope to find a local smoking sensation class. I went to one the last time when the teacher twisted my arm to attend. I had no indention of quitting that time, but it ended up being my most successful attempt to date.

So I downloaded the silk quit. Anyone have any other tips or resources they would like to share?

My reward from my husband if I am successful? Breast Argumentation!

Welcome Sonya

It is SO GOOD to see another person with a planned out quit. And using Chantix to boot. I've heard a LOT of good things about it. You should read over the 2007 board and possibly PM those who have used Chantix to see what advice they could give you.

Personally, I used the patch for 4 days then threw them out b/c they were more trouble than help I believe. Luckily I had my DH by my side through it all and I've been quit since 22 February, 2007. *Cold Turkey* basically.

Quitnet dot com is a good place to start and to register since it will send you emails about how long you've been quit, some inspirational stories and other people for support. That's about all the help I can give you since, again, I went *cold turkey* and just basically started up this thread for MY support system!

I will tell you as I've told others, I don't think you should worry about weight gain while quitting. You can ALWAYS lose or re-lose the weight you gained.... you might not always have a QUIT in you though.

I personally believe that becoming a non smoker is SO MUCH MORE important than losing weight (in most cases).

You can PM me any time you like, I'm usually on the boards throughout the day.

~Deila

Here I go again....for the last time. My quit date is January 6, 2008. I have quit several times using several methods....chantix, patch, welbutrin, gum. For the finale, my doctor has suggested using a combination of the welbutrin and the patch. I cannot take chantix, it makes me extremely ill.

I am very excited about this time, I believe more so than any other time I have tried to do this. Underlying the excitement is a calm, determined feeling that I can do this and that I will do this. Having support here I believe will be the frosting on the cake, so to speak, lol. Not a low-carb saying, but it works for me in this situation.

Here's to all of us...those who have quit and those of us getting ready to start this journey.

Thanks to everyone who is here.

Sheri and WELCOME!!!

Oh how AWESOME it is to have 2 people all ready to start their quit in 2008! It brings a lot of joy to my heart to know I'll have more people to talk to about being a 'Smoker who chooses not to smoke'.

Although you've quit before, I think it is terrific that you haven't given up and are quitting once again.

If you need any advice, support, etc just c'mon out here. I'm sure, between all of us out here, we could give you some help.

KISSES/HUGS/MERRY X-MAS EVE!

Congrats you guys and good luck!!! Today is my 50th day smoke free!

I started quitting using Chantix. It will definitely make you not want to smoke, that is for sure! I only lasted taking it for about 3 weeks. But it was enough to get me started.
I hear ya on the crying at the drop of the hat. About week 3 that was me. Pretty embarrassing, but oh well. LOL. I got through that too. I have gained about 20 pounds, but I expected that as I have not stuck to my LC ways. However, now, come Jan 1st. Strickt Induction and back on the low carb wagon for me!!

Good luck and Merry Christmas!!!!

I have been quit for 1 Month, 2 Weeks, 5 Days, 23 hours, 4 minutes and 10 seconds (49 days). I have saved $249.79 by not smoking 1,998 cigarettes. I have saved 6 Days, 22 hours and 30 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 11/4/2007 2:36 PM

I'm on board. Despite my name smoking is a very bad habit I have. All of my friends and my GF smokes so I think I just picked it up.
I've set New Years as my 'quit smoking' start date.

How very AWESOME! Seems like we have 3 people on board for becoming smoke free in 2008!

I'd like to hear what everyone plans on using to help their quit along.

Sherik,

I quit for a long time after using the welbutrin, patch combo back in the late 90s. Best of luck! I think that mix is a wonderful aid and if for some reason I can't tolerate the Chantix I plan on going back to that mix.

Every time I tried to quit in the past, weight gain was my number one reason for starting back (ironicly I never lost a single pound after I started smoking again either time) This time will be very diffrent becasue, while I do know I will gain some weight, I am beyond confident that I can handle it as a temporary and now I know how to lose it back.

This is great, I'm glad I found this thread! I quit smoking cold turkey a couple years ago and was fine until I lived with a smoker for a few months. I've moved out and one of my priorities is to quit again.

So my plan is to be done with it January 1st, going cold turkey. The thing is that I know I'm going to get bored and want to smoke. Does anybody think it might be a good idea to allow myself all the low carb food I want for a couple days just to get through it?I know I can do this because I have done some house sitting recently and both times I went 3 days without smoking while staying there (Not even in the car or outside!).

We can do this!!

First off, WELCOME! I'm glad to see you are trying to take a positive step in your life.

I know I hear most of the reasoning for people to not quit/re-start smoking is because of the weight gain. Personally, when *I* quit, I didn't worry about gaining weight. As my mother once said, "You do one thing, you do it well, then you move on."

To me, the quit was more important than the weight loss. I am sure you can stop AND keep the weight off if you have the willpower and desire.

Oh, and could you PM me with which cla/gla products you use and where you get them?

~D

HI and WELCOME!! It is so good to see more people joining in!

Personally, I snacked on baby tomatoes, celery sticks, carrots, blanched cauliflower and blanched broccoli. Raw, crunchy veggies were my biggest help! Dipped in 1-2T of ranch dressing or even just a little flavoured vinegar.

I also would drink a HUGE glass of water and made out a TO DO list to give me some 'busy' work when the cravings hit HARD... ie: dust lampshades, clean out the cabinet under the kitchen/bathroom sink, put DVDs in alphabetical order, clean out computer desk, come out here to rant, etc.

You can also do some exercise... but going on a walk isn't always feasible when a craving hits @3AM yanno?

I am a big advocate of water drinking when a craving hit. It helped big time!

I do NOT reccommend baking cookies for busy work, though, if you do not want to gain weight!! On the upside, I have stopped gaining. I think. And come Monday... it's Induction time! I am finally ready to focus on the weight again. I think. I hope.

I have been quit for 1 Month, 3 Weeks, 2 Days, 21 hours, 6 minutes and 52 seconds (53 days). I have saved $269.39 by not smoking 2,155 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Week, 11 hours and 35 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 11/4/2007 2:36 PM

I am right there whith ya BarbDe. I just got back from the grocery, got myself stocked up and ready to go into Induction on Monday, 1 January 2008!

I feel comfortable and confident enough to start my weight loss program again.

I have learned that I can deal with stress without the use of cigs OR food... so I believe this round of concience eating will lead me into a healthy lifestyle!!

I still have to do the shopping Deila. Will do that over the weekend. Need to clean out the frig and pantry and freezer of all the crap!
Gonna finish off my Mich Ultra and pack up all the cookies to go home with the kiddos.
Re-read DANDR just for some moral support and get at it come Tuesday.
Isn't Tuesday the first?

No worries kiddo! That sounds totally normal to me!!!

Psychosomatic.~<adjective> ~ of or pertaining to a physical disorder that is caused by or notably influenced by emotional factors.

Because your HEAD told your BODY you aren't going to be smoking for much longer, your body kicked into overdrive of it being NECESSARY for you to smoke MORE.

The same goes for when you start a diet. All the foods you are no longer *allowed* to eat, you want to GORGE on. It is all psychosomatic.

Although frustrating, keep reminding yourself that, no matter how much you smoke NOW, you are STILL going to quit on the first so, body, get used to it!!!

HUGS!!

I would like to join you in quitting smoking. I have been a lurker for years. I have been afraid to quit for fear of gaining weight. Although I have 20 lbs to loose, my health is more important to me than weight gain. I have been on Welbutrin for several months and have the Chantix as well. I do get severe nausea, but it only lasts about 1/2 hour and I keep thinking that a 1/2 hr is better than days of being sick due to chemotherapy!
January 1st is my quit date. Hope we all do this for the last time!

Welcome Aboard Deb81

This may sound silly... but can your DR give you something, like Phenergan, for the nausea? Personally, after a few days of nausea, I would give up taking the meds. I would think the DR would do whatever he/she could to keep someone ON the meds. Maybe that would help?

Ahhhhh, more people keep coming along...I LOVE IT!!!

Can't wait until the New Year.

i quit 28 days ago tomorrow(Sunday)..i am up 6 pounds but it is retention. I am going on low low carb high fat for a week or so..staying at 0 for a week and then going up in 5 carb increments till 20 a day. Last time i quit for 6 months I actually lost 7 poundsgetting me to 126!!! My goal weight is 125. I am 134. I WAS 136.5 befor my 3 days of HIGH HIGH carb abuse...i was 129 prior to quit. I have found that if I stick to low low carbs, it helps with my bloat..3 days ago, honestly i felt borderline suicidal(hate the melodrama...but i need to share) i went to bed for day...BF was so worried. I knew I had to sleep the carb deprssion off. Thank God I teach and have vacation..i would have not managed work. I think i crashed so hard because i was eating so great for 4 weeks straight and then 3 days of chocolate, chinesee, korean, green bean casserole with about 900 water chestnust bloated me with all its soy. I literally felt like I was swelling from the inside. much better mentally..My fingers are still more plump than usual
But i will ge there!! I am glad someone started this thread Thank you!

Chantix was making me very nauseous if I did not eat well first. Then it would make me nauseous if I smoked. Then it got to where the smokes were so gross tasting I would take one puff and put it out and be sick. Then I would be nauseous thinking about smoking LOL. Anyway I only lasted about 3 weeks on the Chantix. But it was long enough to get me started on my quit. Tomorrow is 8 weeks you guys. I have never been quit this long!

Good to see ya Amy!!!

So far so good!

So far today only have had 3 cigs. For me that is great. I usually smoked about 1 pack a day but have been down to 1/2 pack the past 2 weeks.I actually thought it was the Chantix, but have not taken them in 1 week due to the nausea effects. After reading these posts, it finally dawned on me that it was probably the Welbutrin. I am soooo happy, not just from the Welbutrin....but in general!

I think I am going to try the patches with the Welbutrin and see how that goes.

Hope everyone is gearing up for the big quit!:
