I took the Chantix for a few days and started to "Forget to smoke" in other words, I cut back without even trying. When day 7 came, I was still smoking, and wasn't ready to quit until day 9. I quit at 3:00 in the afternoon when my cigarettes ran out. I just never went out and bought another pack. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't hard either. I am now on day 10, and I still get a little twinge in the mornings, but I just head to the computer and start typing. The cravings pass. I don't know if the cravings will ever go away completely, but I can't see any reason I would ever smoke a cigarette again. I know I can't just have one. I am always a puff away from 2 packs a day.
My advise to you and anyone quitting is to take the Chantix until you are comfortable to quit. Then keep taking it for several months. Studies prove that the longer you take it (up to 6 months) the better your odds of staying quit. I am going to talk to my doc about staying on six months.

I am so happy for you! I am only on day 3 of the Chantix, and have not yet taken my pill today.

Have you noticed et the decrease in your appetite for cigarettes? I wish I would have kept a journal. I know the first few days, the pills made me a little crazy in the head. But that goes away by about day 4? Other than that, I had no side effects. I was hoping for a little nausea but no such luck for me.

I wrote down the time whenever I had a cigarette. I normally smoke a whole pack a day. On day one, I had 14 cigs. Day 2, 13 cigs. Today, I have been up for 5-1/2 hours and so far had 4 cigs. Normally, I would have 3 just on my way to work. Today I had one on the way in. So, yes, I am experiencing a lessening of cravings.

These pills are a freakin' miracle! It's a shame they cost so much. I think that anyone with the slightest hopes of quitting can do so with this medicine. Maybe Phillip Morris should be helping us to pay for Chantix?

I agree about the expense.... HOWEVER... in the long run.... it's a LOT CHEAPER than smoking!!

I wonder if somone COULD sue Phillip Morris for the price of the Chantix?! That would be UberCool!

Well, they say they are available for quit help, right? I would like some help with my medication costs. That would be a great class action suit. I wonder how many boxes of patches and nicotine gum I bought at like 50 bucks each, and let's not forget the hypnotist. I wish they could be sued out of business, but it won't happen.

Not only cheaper in the long run, but for me, a former 2 pack a day smoker, cheaper than a month's worth of cigarettes.

I made it a month and a day. Go Me Go Me Go Me.

I quit the Chantix a few days ago though. I tapered down because it was making me nauseous -- but when I got down to 1/2 a blue pill a day I forgot to take it

Unfortunately, I did notice that the smell of cigarettes smoke did not repulse me the way it had before I quit taking the Chantix. If I have any urges to smoke I am going to jump right back on the meds. I would rather take Chantix for the rest of my life than smoke again, but if I can manage without it I would rather not take it (or anything eles for that matter.)

Hope everyone is having a wonderful and smokefree V-Day.

WAY TO GO SONYA!!
I quit the Chantix, too, after 3 weeks. I decided= screw it. Didn't need it anymore. I couldn't take the nausea either. You can handle it from here, without the drugs. I have faith in you!!

Congratulations! I am right on your tail! I don't know about the Chantix. It's making me a little weird. More so than usual I mean. But I am going to try to stick it out for one more week on the full dose, and then cut back slowly for about 30 days. I have read about withdrawal from the Chantix. We just can't win!

What did you read about withdrawal from Chantix? I had no problem coming off of it. I was having too much anxiety staying on it. But then again. I only was on it for 3 weeks.

I heard that the best results were achieved in patients who continued the drug for 6 months. I don't think I can do it. It is really messing with my head.
My little dogs fell through the ice on our lake 2 days ago, and I had to go in and get them. Sure it wasn't fun, but they are ok. It could have been alot worse. They could have been in the deep part of the lake, but they weren't. They could have died, it was definately a serious situation, but I am having PTSD over it. I keep seeing my little dog's terrified face treading water and shivering. I couldn't sleep at all the first night because of these visions. I think in part, it's reasonable to be upset, but I think that this drug is affecting my thinking and making me more upset. I am seeing my doctor, but not until next Thursday.
My bf says I should stop the drug and put a patch on. I don't know what to do. I know that no matter what, I won't smoke again, but boy did I have cravings after that incident.

Miki sorry about your dogs, but for the love of all that is holy please DO NOT PUT THAT PATCH ON.

You have been nicotine free for 2 weeks now. If you add nicotine back - in any form - your just going to rev up your addiction full steam all over again. Cut back on the pill if you need to. I did and my results were just as good on half the blue pill as they were on the whole pill.

I am sure the dogs in the water were scary as could be, but I am guessing your not nearly as upset right now as you would be if you were back to smoking next week.

Good luck sweetie and I am sending you good vibes.

Aww, Micki . I'm so glad your dogs are OK. I would bet that a lot of your anxiety is the Chantix. I was not sleeping at all while taking it - let alone having any traumatic experience!
How long have you not smoked? (Sorry, I'll go look back and see). OK, about a month? That 3rd-4th week. OMG. I was a basket case. Verge of tears all the time. It was bad.
I still have cravings. And it's been over 3 months since I smoked my last smoke. DH got laid off and is home 24/7. Trust me. I have craved this month for sure! But I'm not going to do it. (And he still smokes. Not around me, and not in the house - but they are here and I can smell them sometimes).
Hang in. Good you are going to talk to the Doc. Maybe you can get a phone consultation since your appointment is a week away??
Oh, and Sonya is right!!! NO PATCH!!

Thank you for both for your advise. I will take it! I think I'm feeling better, still a little PTSD'y. I have this fear of bridges in the Winter, because of the frozen rivers. I get very uncomfortable driving across them. My fear is not of the fall, but of the frozen water. Never in a million years did I think I would intentionally jump into a frozen body of water, but I do love my little dogs so much! So I faced my fear, and I'm a little traumatized. I think I need to get over it though. It's not like me to hold on to bad stuff. That's why I blame the Chanatix.
But no matter what, I WILL NOT SMOKE! I am done.
<--- that is one of my little swimmers, he's about 20 lbs and his little buddy is a 9 lb 6 month old Shih-tzu. I will try to post a picture.
