THATS IT!! I am done with this damned habit. I feel like garbage, its nasty, smelly and expensive. I have half a pack of cigarettes here and i want to go douse it in water and throw it away, but part of me is saying "no, don't do it!!"

Arggh!

What do you all suggest?
Niki

I say print your post out... hang it where you can see it... and STAY ANGRY AT YOUR ADDICTION!!! If you remember how BAD it makes you feel... the less inclined you are to smoke!

As already suggested, get Alan Carrs book. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Also, get with your doctor to see what the best way to go.. the patch, Chantix, cold turkey, etc.

Paula ~ Smoke free and weight gained. NO WORRIES! It is weight EASILY lost when you are comfortable to start losing again! It IS more than likely water weight since the nicotine is leaving your system and your body wants to replace it with SOMETHING!!!

8 DAYS SMOKE FREE!!!

Amy ~ WTG for you as well! No loss but no gain..... AND you are in control of your urges! FANTASTIC!

For you both!

28 hours for me!! Hoping I make it to 48 hours smoke free. I'm going to be like those parents who have a 5 year old and still give their age in months.

As of right now I dont have any desire to smoke. I've been eating a lot, though. At this point I dont care. I'll eat a little more to get past the worst of quitting.

im really proud of you.... keep going ok!! you will get moments where you want one, but drink a glass of water and think about WHY you want one... for me ive found its just because its a familiar situation during which i would have previously smoked.

changing habits is the most important part!

Had the most horrible nightmare last night - I was smoking.

I had a really stressful day yesterday at work and I wonder if that triggered the dream. Woke up this morning feeling defeated until I realized it was only a dream.

Day 24 here I come.

Hello,
Just checking in......still good here. Vegas was a blast. There weren't very many people smoking in the casinos so not much temptation. Maybe people are finally realizing what a waste it is! It seemed like there were much more non-smokers than smokers. Great to see everyone fighting the fight. Have a great day!

WB Gracie!!! Yeah on the blackjack.

Nikix - how are you doing?

Day 16 here, smoke free.

I quit taking the full dose of Chantix a few days ago. The dose I should be on right now is 1mg twice a day, but I don't have the time to fight off the nausea twice a day.

With the OK from my Dr. I am cutting the 1mg pills in half (which is not easy) and taking 1/2 twice a day.

Nausea gone. Yeah!

Up a few more ponds.

I'm quitting on Monday. Anybody have any advice for me? I'm going to try the patch this time (can't take chantix because of drug interactions).

Peachy!

Drink LOTS of water.

Make sure you have a lot of healthy *grazing* food (celery, SF hard candies, etc)

Get a copy of Alan Carrs book and read it!

Prepare EVERYONE around you for a bad mood!

Avoid your usual smoking places.

Make a list of things to do where each activity is about 10 minutes long. Whenever you feel a craving hit, pull out your list and do that activity. It should bypass your crave!

KUTGW everyone and post your suggestions!

my only advice would be to make sure you are ready to quit.

throw everything away, think of your self as a non smoker immediately.

2 weeks here

"Get a copy of Alan Carrs book and read it!"

I want to second that advice and add:

Get "Stop Smoking Forever" by Gleen Harrold, it's a the Hyponis CD (download).

Between the book and the Hyponis sessions this time has been almost easy for me.

Now about the hypnosis CD (download), I ordered it from audiable.com and uploaded it on to my Ipod. I had never experienced any kind of hypnosis before and I wasn't even sure I believe in such things, was pretty sure I didn't have the time to fool with it and even if I could find the time I was also pretty sure I could not sit still long enough to try, But since it was recommended by a few people and the download was only about $10.00 I thought I would give it a whirl.

When I first started listening to the hypnosis CD I cracked up. The tone of his voice was sorta annoying, but I decided I would hear it out. One minute I was thinking about how silly this idea was and the next minute I could hear him say "wake up" and I woke up - WIDE AWAKE. ( Which wasn't such a good thing since it was bed time.)

Honstly I have not had one single overwhelmingly strong urge to smoke. Not one. I think the book and the CD combo really rewired my thinking and made this time almost easy.

The (download) CD is sorta like taking valium. I don't care how wound up I am, 5 minutes into that CD and I am completely relaxed. I love it!

Best of luck and I hope you check in often so we all know how your doing.

Three weeks, 20 hours, 32 minutes and 16 seconds. 546 cigarettes not smoked, saving $88.79. Life saved: 1 day, 21 hours, 30 minutes.

Hello everyone. I have been reading all your wonderful and inspiring posts and I am ready to commit to quit. I have my Chantix in hand, Allen Carr's book, and just purchased Glenn Harold's audio download. I am starting on the Chantix tomorrow. Today, I signed up at their website to get daily emails and I printed out the 24-hour Smoking Log. I need all the ammunition I can get. I am 62 years old and have been smoking for 50 yrs. I am terrified, but I'm trying to set myself up for success. I read Allen's book over a year ago, but never committed. Wasn't ready. Please tell me I can do this!

Barbara B.: You can absolutely do this! I don't care if you've smoked for 3 months or 50 years, it can be beaten. You have all of the best tools for quitting. Take it day-by-day, treating each day as a success. My best advice to you is to avoid the situations where you normally smoke, at least for now. I used to do it on Friday nights at the bar so while I was quitting I totally avoided going out on Friday nights. I know my BF smokes while talking on the telephone so maybe walk around or chew gum while on the phone. I believe it is mainly a drug addiction but it is also a learned behavior. You have to learn new behaviors in your daily life. Instead of waking up to coffee and a cigarette, wake up to orange juice and a walk. I believe in you and support you 100% in quitting. Do it for yourself!

Barbara you cannot only do this you can do it well!

Follow the directions with the Chantix - set your quit day a week AFTER you start the medication. Trying to stop smoking the same day you start the med amounts to quitting cold turkey. Chantix takes a week or so to build up in your system.

The combination of the book, Chantix and the CD have worked so well for me. I hope you find the method as easy as I have.

Please post and let us all follow your journey -quitting is exciting but getting to follow and support others along the journey is just pure joy!
