Deila - interesting charts you posted there - they actually are helpful to me tonight as is the descriptions from you and Aim in Fla of your first smoke free NYE.

Lulu Belle - good for you and hubby quitting. Probably easier if both of you quit.

I'm a bit behind schedule because I had 5 left and though I'd thought I'd just keep them for emergency, I apparently had 5 emergencies this morning and smoked 'em. So last cig was at 2 p.m. - it's now nearly 9 p.m. and I didn't run out and get any, which is a pretty good start. I'm trying cold turkey - I do have Nicotine Gum in the house and a Nicotine inhaler somewhere I think but I'd prefer to go without out.

A little light-headed now but that's all so I think I'll manage to make it through the night. Any tips for in the morning? (I'm on the west coast so morning for me may be several hours later than for some of you).

Nikixie - how was today for you?

Hope everyone had a lovely New Year's Day.
goodformelocarb, I just wanted to add that it is good for you to sleep alot. I got very sleepy and realized it was my body detoxing which occurs the second nicotine starts to leave the body which is your first craving..Consider the craving a blessing..for the next few days go into the mindset that those cravings are your body releasing toxins. I slept alot at first the first cople of days because i was a bit *****y and REALLY tired. YOu can do this. Read Allen Carr's book Quitting smoking the easy way...OMG! Fabulous!

HI ALL

How about a check in from our Newly Nons and Nearly Nons and see how we are doing?

I am right there with Amy.... DEFINITELY sleep if/when you need to. Just like Atkins *Induction Flu*... your body goes through a *Detox Flu* when you first quit smoking. GAWD I drank SOOOO much water, did a LOT of little chores and SLEPT LIKE CRAZY!

I don't hear anyone BIT@HIN so I guess everyone is doing good?

Anyone else have a problem with Chantix and crankiness? I've been back on it for 3 days, and am very cranky If I had stopped smoking I could understand....I think I may have to go to the patch. Cold turkey is just not an option.

Yeah, I had issues with the Chantix too. Nauseous and cranky and anxious. I hung in with it for about 3 weeks. It was long enough for it to work for me. But really too long for the side effects I was having.
Deb you do what you have to do for YOU!

Yeah, but I am finding they get fewer and farther between. Thank goodness! I don't feel like I am going crazy anymore. And can now focus on my eating instead.

I have been quit for 1 Month, 4 Weeks, 22 hours, 39 minutes and 48 seconds (59 days). I have saved $299.71 by not smoking 2,397 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Week, 1 Day, 7 hours and 45 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 11/4/2007 2:36 PM

my mother was a *****! OMG! But, she did the whole series for 4 months and never quit.
Please look in to the book Allen Carr's easy way to quit smoking.
Now she is on wellbutrin. she is kinda worse. She is not willing to go through ANY level of discomfort AT ALL. and I think that is her problem. I KNEW i woud be not happy and feel like crap so i made a plan...I slept alot. I filled the house with HIGH FAT LOW CARB foods...got into ketosis and that slightly nausous feeling everyone talks about kicked in and i would sleep.
Hang in there sweetie Remember how crappy you feel and decide to make your quit final so you never have to go through this again.

Diets going good! Thanks for asking. I am actually even Fitday-ing, which I never really got into before. Now, don't get me wrong. I lost 50 pounds before without Fitday. But it's nice to have it now to use as a focus, ya know?
I'm doing so much better with my quit. I feel like a new person this week!
How you doin Aim?

Okay - I'm checking in - it's now something like 56 hours and think I'll go with the sleeping advice from Aim & Deila. Not cranky at all but having serious trouble focusing, thinking or silly things like that. Plus I have a serious case of butter-fingers...oh, well I know it will pass.

I do have that Allen Carr book and I dug it out. I'm trying to read it but it's slow going today - will be better in the morning.

Cold in Florida? Hope it warms up soon Barb & Aim...difficult to deal with weather you're not used to and not equipped for.

Deb81 - I don't really know about Chantix - but I hope the crankiness passes for you. Have you quit before with the patch and not had any crankiness? My brother was evil every time he quit - sorta sounds like Barb's Mom. He finally succeeded and has been quit for a couple years now but some people are still not talking to him due to his behaviour the first few months.

Nikixie - you still avoiding your Mom? If I smoked one cigarette every 20 hours only I might not bother quitting at all.

Lulubelle - how are you and hubby doing?

Sweetpeasgram - thanks for the encouragement and Congrats to you on you first anniversary.

Deila - I am drinking tons of water and I have a lot of chores to do so maybe tomorrow will be a little less scattered. I was smart enough to take the whole week off work at least. Sleeping still seems like the best plan.

So far no signs of weight gain and in fact am down to 212.8 - I'll change the ticker tomorrow if it holds.

Forgive the rambling please - I'll try to make better sense soon.

And why is my user name and password so long? I can't spell in this condition...

Just checking in...on my last pack of cigs. I had originally decided to quit on Sunday, but I am smoking so much less now than just a week ago, it will probably be sometime on Saturday when I finish this pack.

Sending out good vibes to everyone!!!!!

Well... I DID.. but I DIDN'T as well. I used the patch for 4 days and, to me, it was more trouble than it was worth. The skin under the patch was SEVERELY irritated for weeks afterwards.. so I had 4 round patches of rashed up skin. Plus, to ME, they itched and would start to peel up in the corners after just an hour or so.

Like I said... they were more trouble than they were worth. YMMV though!

After day 4 I just drank a LOT of wadda, slept like a hibernating bear and did little chores every time I got a crave.

Got my Chantix scrip filled today. Dang this stuff was expansive! $120.00 for the first month, from Walmart. I deeply regret that I did not call around before I filled the script. I just went in assuming my insurance would cover some of it. Nope.

I am excited to get started I think spending this money will help motivate me though. The idea of throwing away that much money makes me a bit

Did you get the starter kit with the Coupon/card?
I paid $120 for mine too, but that was with the $30 they gave me off with that little card. My insurance didn't cover any of it either.
Oh, and I went to Walgreens.
And it did add some motivation having to shell out all that $$.

Good luck to you!!

The Doctor that wrote the Rx gave me a "starter kit". Basically a small folder with information and tips and the coupon. Call your Doc and see if they have any.

Thanks for the understanding, Aim - I appreciate the advice. I feel a little less scattered today but a bit edgy. I did not sleep well last night. I don't remember waking up every 3 hours the last time I quit...anybody familiar with this effect? Or maybe I had TOO MUCH water...

Any warmer in Florida today for you Florida folks? Hope so.

My employer is offering a deal that they'll actually pay for Chantix, Zyban, or nicotine replacement products (if you register and endure some "counselling" sessions at intervals). I'm trying to avoid using anything and so far the cold turkey doesn't seem to be too horrible. But come Monday I have to go back to work and it may be tougher - if it gets too much at least I have another option. Though come to think of it, maybe this is a golden opportunity to let Mr. Boss have both barrels and I can blame it on quitting smoking crankiness.

SheriK - how you doing with that last pack - still plan on quitting tomorrow?

Now a question about diets - did you all do low carb before you quit, at the same time or what? And what about exercise? Did anybody avoid weight gain altogether when they quit smoking?

And in case I didn't mention it before thanks for this thread and all your input.

I have about a half of pack left....as soon as it's gone (either today or tomorrow) that's the end. I am actually excited about this change. The doctor I work for was not subtle at all yesterday when he was congratulating the last patient of the day on quitting smoking, lol. I just laughed and walked away, after I too had congratulated the patient. The doc and I have kinda a love/hate relationship and at times it is very encouraging....kinda like, just because you don't think I can do this, I'm gonna show you that I can.

I am starting back on induction tomorrow as well. I have been cleaning out cabinets, stocking the fridge and freezer, and compiling recipes. I joined the YMCA and am going to go there today and walk around to orient myself with where all the machines that I like to use are. One of my best motivators to stay quit will be exercise.

I will post tomorrow. Have a great day everyone!!!!
