I don't know what I'm going to do with my cigarette money, but I can't wait to have it!!

I was just thinking earlier that I should get a part time job to have some extra spending money, and then it dawned on me that I will have over $100 a month extra when this stupid, ugly, disgusting, smelly habit is finally behind me.

Bought my patches yesterday....forgot how expensive they are. I guess I won't see any money until I am done with these, lol.

Am on my countdown. Have been cleaning house the past couple of days, went grocery shopping (am restarting induction on January 6 as well), and joined the YMCA so I can work out. It seems like a lot to start at once, but the excersice really helps me not smoke. Day by day, I can feel my breathing getting better and easier and feel my energy level rising and it makes it so much easier for me to resist the cigs.

And as long as I am going to excersice,I might as well eat right. So I guess, really it all goes hand in hand.

Here's to a wonderful new year.

Count me in too !! I have wanted to quit for so long but after 35 years its so hard. I tried the Chantix also, and I did great taking 1 a day but when I added the second pill it made me very ill. I got a new prescription in case I can't do this cold turkey and I am going to just stick to 1 a day. I would light one up and have to put it right back out. We went on vacation about the time I was to add the second one and I told my hubby I wasnt spending my whole vacation sick, so I stopped taking it. I really believe I can do this. I just had sinus surgery 3 weeks ago so I can breath again and I don't wanna mess that up with cigarettes !!! And we just remodeled our home with pine siding and I don't want to smell it up. I couldn't believe how discolored the old walls looked when we took the molding off. Disgusting !!! And thats what my lungs look like . I totally quit for 2 days after the surgery but started back with "just this 1 after I eat" and it snowballed back to smoking all day again . My hubby doesn't smoke, never did, so I want to do it for myself, and him !! Maybe doing this starting back on induction later this week, will keep me from gaining too much more than I already have.
Deila, Thank you for starting this thread, and thank your hubby for what he's doing for us . I pray he stays safe !!

WELCOME kycowgirl!!! It is GREAT to have another person *on board* (pun intended). I just KNOW we can help each other GET quit and STAY quit!!

Man am I happy to see all the people out here wanting to quit. This makes me double positive that one of my Resolutions will be to MAKE SURE I check in on the boards every day!

Besides becoming non smokers, what other resolutions does everyone have? Like kycowgirl, I am re-Inducting at the first of the year. I am ALSO starting a cla/gla program and going to get more exercize (have an elliptical machine being delivered).

Thanks for the thanks for my DH, kyc. Being a soldier is all he has ever wanted to be and I am too happy and too proud to be an Army wife!

Now.... SMOKE 'EM IF YA GOT 'EM PEOPLE!!!! 2008 is right around the corner and you don't want this anymore:

Hi everyone! Great to see this thread started!

Well my attempts at christmas time failed miserably but i'm back at square one with my quit plan.
I will continue doing half hour a day on the tread mill, designating 'smoke free' zones in the house and doing my meditations.
New Quit date: February 1st,2008
I got the perscription for chantrix too, but not filling it just yet.

Happy New years everyone!!

Well, I have a day full of Dr appointments. Went for the Mammo/Pap this morning. My blood pressure was 102/64! NEVER in my life has it been that low! So that's a good side effect of not smoking.
(We are not discussing the weight... k?) GYN said he wouldn't beat me up for the weight, he would let Primary do that this afternoon when I see him!
Grrr. I told him that Primary would NOT beat me up because he will be so happy I am smoke free. I lost the weight before. Quit smoking. Gained the weight, now it's just time to lose the freaking weight again! Right? Right! Ugh.
Another thing. I have that stupid rash under my breasts. Yeast. I know. I never had that when I was eating low carb.
So, tomorrow is the day! I cannot wait to get back to feeling good!
Hang in there everybody.
And welcome to all the newcomers!!

By the way. I forgot I had put out $240 for Chantix for DH & I. Insurance did not cover any of it. Soooo.. THAT's where the $$ went! LOL.
Thanks for pointing that out SheriK!

I have been quit for 1 Month, 3 Weeks, 5 Days, 20 hours, 51 minutes and 34 seconds (56 days). I have saved $284.33 by not smoking 2,274 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Week, 21 hours and 30 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 11/4/2007 2:36 PM

My insurance doesnt pay for the Chantix either. I have to pay $125.00 a month at K-Mart. I feel its worth it if I can finally quit !! I'm going to try cold turkey first and only get the Chantix if I want to cave

Trisha I feel like it definitely gave me the added advantage that I needed. Otherwise I would never have done it. I was tapering for those 3 weeks I was taking the Chantix to where I got to one a day that I smoked 1 puff at a time cuz it was so gross. LOL. That's when I decided I was done. And done with the Chantix too.
So, yeah, it was definitely worth it to me. It was just a big chunk of money to put out all at one time. But I passed on the leftovers to DS who ended up quitting too! So now DH is the only smoker in the family. And he is the one who was doing the crying about wanting to quit!!

Hi, all

Do you have room for one more? I'm a newbie but a long-time lurker from way before I actually registered in August. Tomorrow is my final Quit Day. I've been changing the date every day for about 2 months and never quite getting there. Tomorrow I start a detox and re-start an exercise program and go cold turkey and this time no excuses. I still have some 50 lbs to lose to so am determined not only to not gain weight - but still working on getting to goal before summer.

Like kycowgirl, I'm a long-time smoker - 41 years - with about 3 relatively long-term quits in there and multiple short-term ones. Last one was 6 weeks four years ago.

BarbDe - congrats on being quit already - nearly two months is fantastic.

Happy New Year everyone!

No worries barb. I am The Queen! of TMI!!!!

WELCOME ABOARD goodformelocarb!!!! Of COURSE we gots room for ya! Squeeze on into the pew next to me and attend QUITTERS CHURCH!!

Make sure you nearly/newly nons come out here RELIGIOUSLY!!

And, again... a few tips for when you *get the urge*:

1. Drink a glass full of water. I would use a straw (simulates dragging on a ciggie).

2. Prepare a list of Things To Do. I recommend that each *thing* takes at least 10 minutes to do because it takes about 10 minutes to get over a CRAVE.

3. Get a good supply of SF HARD candies to suck on.

4. Crudite! Crudite! Crudite!

5. C'mon out here and RANT!!

I just lit up my 3rd to the last cigarette and I am a little panicky about it!! ACK!

I was just at Walgreens (buying tampons - got my period AND quitting smoking ) and I was going to buy another pack just to have plenty to smoke through the evening, but then I decided against it. If I actually had cigarettes here, I could see myself rationalizing - "It's not really tomorrow until I go to bed and wake up, I can stay up all night smoking!!"

2 more after this and I am DONE!!

Oh dear. the diagram of whats in a cigarette is interesting. I had no idea!

Anyway, I threw out all reminders of my life as a smoker! Ashtrays, the empty cigarette pack, extra lighters (I saved one for candles).

I've been quit for an hour!!

okay...I was at 136.5.on Sat after a 3 day carbfest....Today I was 133.5. I think my body is now starting to get out of it's freak out state...
my bloat is going down. My mood is so much better and i think about smoking once or twice a day. I really think FOR ME the difference was doing it cold turkey. My BF still struggles MORE but he is coming around. We just woke up and said this is the first NYE as adults we have not had a hangover and lung pain from chain smoking while boozing. I was a heavy smoker for years...probably 20 years...and a light smoker since @ 11. ELEVEN...i see kids at 11 and think OMG..I must have looked bizzare smoking as a kid..practically riding a big wheel...My mother, being European, was more relaxed with cigs. Crazy...Anyway....I am feeling human..it can be done...i have weighed 136.5 WHILE smoking...I have weighed 133.5 while smoking. The weight is NOT smoking realted..it wascarb related. I HAVE NOT a doubt!

WTG Amy!

Yes, this was MY first New Year ringing in as a non smoker as well! Although not drinking last year, I still remember the hacking cough I would wake up with... and the nasty black stuff that would eventually be spit out.

And I KNOW I read somewhere that people relate smoking and weight gain but there's no proven FACT that smoking helps you lose/quitting makes you gain. IMO, I think it has to do with taste and getting your tastebuds back into working order. When you smoke, they become DULL. Once you quit... and I'm talkin within hours of your last smoke... your tastebuds get re-energized and you can TASTE stuff!

Well, plus the grazing for some oral satisfaction....

So, CHECK IN PEOPLE!!

Gimme STATS!

Count me in too. After a 8 month quit last year , "house selling/buying stress" *coughEXCUSEcough* brought on a 4 month lapse. BUT..... I am now 1 day free of my monkey as is hubby. I threw a patch on, but i think that may be the one and only, i actually feel pretty good, even cheery, and believe me the kids are waiting on cranky mom. I'm sure tomorrow will be much worse.
